Paws of War’s volunteer rescue team has been working diligently on the ground in Asheville, NC to assist with the cleanup of Hurricane Helene. They recently rescued four puppies, Nova, Capone, Latte and Cosmo, six week old Sheppard mixes, who just arrived at Paws of War’s HQ. Here, they are being cared for and are receiving veterinary care. In a few weeks, they will find a home with a veteran or first responder in need.

Paws of War was one of the first organizations to respond in the immediate hours following the destruction of deadly Hurricane Helene. They have since provided aid and assistance to hundreds of locals and animals whose homes and lives have been torn apart.
So many animals and people perished in the rapidly rising flood waters and the aftermath, and it is a race against time to prevent even more tragic loss of life. Their volunteers and rescue team are still on the ground working to rescue more dogs and help individuals and families recover.
Alongside helping those in the communities, their team also responded to urgent requests for help from animal rescues and shelters that had also been flooded, damaged, and destroyed; needing everything from food and water for the animals, to assistance with evacuations to safer areas.
Angelique (A Navy Veteran), Niki and the team delivered emergency food to animal sanctuaries and groups, conducted welfare checks on at-risk families with pets, distributed supplies to vulnerable senior citizen mobile home communities devastated by the storm, checked in on a compromised dog/cat daycares and other animal shelters and facilities and much more. Upon arrival, they were even provided with armed guards for protection as they worked in areas susceptible to looting and other threats.
