His adopted name is a sheng title for a rich man and aptly so because Mike Sonko is synonymous with generous handouts, flashy lifestyle and an appetite for controversy. But the Nairobi senator whose real name is Mike Kioko Mbuvi believes he is a good man who is a victim of misunderstanding. And as the father of four with a taste for fancy jewelry, outlandish clothes and blunt language tells Willis Raburu, the real news he hopes to make is a better city for Nairobi residents.

I am not a fun of blings or bikini clad phone but my only beef with Sonko is this culture of dishing out money. It has to stop. Build a school or an institution to equip those youths you give cash handouts to. Money will be spent and forgotten, an institution will last forever and your name will never be forgotten. Giving food stuff to old cucus and free medical camp is good but I just hope he does something concrete for all his philanthropic endevours.

my sentiments exactly...he'll empower this people if he gives them skills. Jokes aside, I think this dude is so full of himself and suffers ADHD. there are trillionaires and bajillionaires in Kenya and the world doing so much for the human race without making it a camera/video deal

Utadowot it gets on camera because he wants to benefit politically... Sonko is a thug.. fraudster and he thrives on that. Off camera, he cant give you a dime. He steals even from poor supplies... ask any one in Buruburu... no one can supply anything to his so called Club. Hautalipwa ng'o. And if you go to claim money from him, his bouncers will throw you out plus the insults he hurls at you.

Utadowot frankly i think he needs to grow up and start acting his age and with the respect, honour and dignity that his position entails. When i see him putting those blings, showing off his fashionable wardrobe and his many hip hop caps am left wondering whether this is a teenager who has just finished form 4 or is a goddarm senator of one of world major city. whats the deal with the phone, is that something u expect to see in a senators office? He needs to grow up.

Karuitha ll i totally agree with you on this...That culture of dishing out money helps only in the very short run but does not help at all in the long run. One would go buy chang'aa, drink well well for a day and tomorrow empty pockets. The idea of going for Nairobi Governorship is also a bad one, aibu hatutaki let him stay in the senate.

The bling, the cash handouts, the tacky phone, this is a simple minded man who takes a quick fix approach to everything, which only achieves short term goals. Being a political leader is about setting an example and what example are you setting to anyone with their eye on politics? Politics = power, cash, big houses, and a train of cars...how does that even make you a man of the people when the average Kenyan makes less than a thousand dollars a year.
