I begin to understand that the true mastermind of Neoton Family/Newton Family must have been the slightly chubby "fella", that plays that amazing synth theme (on what could look like Roland Jupiter 4 syntheziser - at least it's also got the buttons it has, beneath its actual keys). What I don't really understand is that a musical masterpiece/underrated gem (and also the not bad at all video accompanying it) like this, can go almost unnoticed (Neoton Family is not exactly what you'd call an unknown entity in itself). Yes, even the lyrics seems to be quite excellent. I'm very close to saying that it is almost litterally a disgrace, that this song/composition is not higher regarded than it is by the general public. But I guess it's how it all sometime is unfortunately. Life just isn't always just/fair is it?
They were very famous in communist countries (they're Hungarian) and Japan and South Korea, from what I can tell. I agree that it's crazy they weren't famous in English-speaking countries, but I don't think their music was ever released there. I've tried to research this, and I think the furthest west they got was Spain (Sandokan was a hit there) and Holland, where Eva Csepregi had a couple of solo hits. She had a solo song released in Belgium too, but it never got into the charts. By the way, the fat keyboard player is called Jakab Gyorgy, or Gyorgy Jakab in Hungary (where they put surnames first). The band split up finally in the early 1990s, with everyone hating each other, but when Jakab Gyorgy died in 1994 or 1995, all the other band members were so sad that they actually reformed for a goodbye concert dedicated to him (it's called Bucsu if you want to look it up).
On the contrary, it was precisely that they were not completely known in the Eastern bloc, for example in our country, in Czechoslovakia I learned about them by chance, at the Hungarian Days of Culture, where I bought their LP, because they had a nice picture there, and I thought they were from "west". Of course, their songs really sounded like from the West, maybe that's why they weren't so much promoted by our political leadership. That doesn't change the fact that they were amazing!
