In india among punjabis we make meethey chawal and pakode and call neighbourhood females and relatives and they bless the baby and would be mother by blessing them followed by songs dance n food
i would suggest go for Sandra's as per her style and do a pooja for Cherry's. Put a proper tent outside with myst fans if they are vailable with proper gadda and chair setup it will be very comfortable

I would suggest you contact fellow Indians in Canada and see how baby shower is done there. You'll get an idea and then you can adopt the same in your function.

Hi guys, I want to tell you guys our experience. I and my husband live in US and we were blessed with a baby boy last year in Aug. We also organized our baby shower/godbharai before the baby was born. And even not in our culture we do these functions back in India, but we did it in a mix way. We had an indian godbharai… all were dressed in Indian attire. We booked a small hall where they did the whole decorations and after party cleaning. We did a little pooja … like my mother did a small pooja and then some little rituals and then all the women came and spoke good about the baby in my ears. We also made a registry and it was very helpful for guest as they did not have to think what to give. Registry is a very easy way of gifting and I think you should make it and send it to your gifts. Just post the link at the end of your invitation. People will be pleased and if those are not comfortable they will bring you gift cards which is also helpful. Anyways that’s our experience and suggestions are the end its your first experience so enjoy it your way and especially it’s Cherry’s special event so she should feel good. Don't feel pressurised by gora traditions... be desi... do stuff the way you want or if u don't want don't stress and enjoy your time... I don't understand baby shower... u should have a grand, baby welcome after the baby is born and invite all loved ones so that they can meet the baby.. that would be way wholesome for everyone
Dont stress yourself about anything.... main thing is you and the baby stay healthy . My personal suggestion is hold prayers at home , have a chaa paani langar , keep it easy to manage and cater . All the best

Registry concept is very sorted and easy, in any culture no on goes empty hands and here in India we are always worried weather they will like the gift and will they use the gift or no; it blows away all the worries.. So we can introduce this concept in our culture as well ❤

Registry is impersonal and transactional. It takes away focus from emotions, blessings and puts focus instead on materialistic things. TD likes this way as he is transactional and emotionless by nature.
You do a fusion of Canada and India make the event as per your convenience, tradition and help/support. Do a prayer ceremony as per tradition, home cooked food (Prasad for mother) / catering for guests, gifts or registry and blessing with tea and samosa while ending the ceremony. This will give you a heads up, any addition or changes as per your requirement. Keep it simple, traditional and all the very best!!
Almost everybody be it Desis or Canadians, they nowadays know about the registry and it's much easier to shop from there for the guests. May be prepare an online invitation card and add a hyperlink for the registry in the footer. Then you don't specifically have to mention it ;)

Generally, in India 🇮🇳 close relatives are invited for 'Goudbharaee' . All the ladies gets dry fruits, Nariyal, & red chunri. Apply siddur, haldi & chaval on the forehead of the expecting mother, places dry fruits and naryal in the pallu, covers chuneri on the head, and gives ashirvad to the expecting mother. No gifts at this point. On the 12th day celebration & gifts from mother's side for new born, same time name ceremony.

Yeah I feel so sorry for her...she's very gracious...they live in Canada which I assume is their home so what is the big problem to adopt the Canadian tradition....it's just meant to be a fun time for everyone....In some countries it's only the woman that are invited to the baby showers!!
We in India call it Kanji , aunty ji samajh jayenge. Hawan karte hai, Since you are in Canada take both bahu’s to temple at least. Mummy side se pink clothes bhi pehente hai
Baby shower is not compulsory. No obligation. You do not have to do anything. It is all commercial/marketing tool in western culture. In some Indian culture it is bad luck to buy anything for baby before baby is born.
