It’s funny how computers omitting cd drives now makes these type of products relevant. I kept my old Mac just to rip cds that I find at yard sales and such.
Yes ,, I've purchased an external cd player for my Kangaroo mini PC to also rip cd's . Also ,, when using my Chromebox ,,, I can't use the external ,, because I haven't come across any Chrome program that rips or burns cd's .
When I purchased my laptop I wasn't too bothered that it didn't have a disc drive, knowing from years of looking I'd likely not find a Blu-Ray burner on anything outside of Sony (which Vaio line was liquidated) so I'd be looking external, which at the time some still had DVD but none had BD drives...now I don't think any do. @analogmatrix1442
In the 90’s JVC sold a personal CD player, with the main selling point you could play it lid open. It was possible to see the laser trying to detect the disc if you pressed play with no disc in it. But to damage your eye with a cd laser you eye would have to be very close to it.
Recently I found a Sony DVD/CD player, 2002-2006. It was just laying in my closet randomly. So I hooked it up to my HIFI and it sounds AMAZING!!! Cool video! Nothing like a free audio component!
I had one of these in 1986 and played a Genesis Cd on it among others but i can clearly remember the Genesis . Amazing that they are still being used and produced since i also remember some 20 years ago seeing with somebody an mp3 player and those have already disappeared .
No mention of the price, the clear cover will only get scratched-up over time. You never saw ear buds that have ear tips? The silicone ones supplied suck, get a set of foam tips from Comply. CDs read from the inner part, running outward, the laser is weak & won’t damage your eyes, only activates when it’s reading a disc, no risk to user. Having an FM tuner option is neat. The supplied synthetic cloth bag is cheap/no padding for protection. Sound quality isn’t impressive, it’s just a cheap generic Chinese product. If you want a good quality CD player with HiFi attributes, consider 3 brands; JVC, Denon & Technics. Most are no longer being manufactured, so a used, well cared for unit is desired. I recommend aTechnics model; a padded storage bag is supplied, no FM radio, a non-illuminated display, it features a 2 position bass boost switch, & a line out port, with true HiFi circuitry for great sound quality, that rivals a lot of home stand-alone players. Don’t get fooled with flash in the pan designs. It’s your money, get what you deserve, buy Japanese.
That looks a handy device, especially with the Bluetooth & FM transmitter features, plus being able to copy CDs directly to an SD card, without needing to use a computer. From a UK viewer.
I remember back in the early 2000's many stereos and probable CD players came with transparent covers it was so cool and I never saw a laser through it, I remember when I got my first portable CD player that could play while you were walking and moving without skipping or stopping the music, also I remember my portable cassette players, they were something 😋, never had a walkman or Discman as they were very expensive and I was a kid back then, the only one that survived is a Sony Discman my dad bought in the 80's or 90's it still works, also it's red laser which is not that harmful.
I grew up on records, 8-Tracks, and cassettes. I remember the big deal it was when the Sony WM-1 Walkman first came out. I did, however, miss out on short lived formats like Muntz 4-Track cartridges (actually the progenitor of Lear's 8-Track) and Hi-Way Hi-Fi, which were mainly for cars.
I cannot tell you how many times I have had to (with some aggravation) open my portable CD player to see which disc was in it. Come to think of it, this is true with any CD player be it portable, car or hi-fi deck. I cannot think of another single CD player which will allow you to see the disc. Actually this player is quite unique.
@@peterluck3154 I'll just stick to my Onkyo integra dx706 , I used to be a marantz guy but they never held up in my case . Had some bad luck with them 😢
@@Andersljungberg you would be totally wrong as they did blind tests before even a playstation couldn't be distinct from the higher end cd players on those sessions. 😂 I love the typical audiophile, they all think they have super refined hearing. 10 min into a any blind tests I was part off. Nobody in the room at one point could distinct their own gear from the "lesser" gear.
What bit-rate does it convert MP3 to? Because my turntable only converts to 128kbs which was the standard 20 years ago but is very compressed by today's standards.
today's Walkman. only plays files also Hi-res and some of them can also be connected to WiFi for eg Spotify or TiDAL. However, the 40-year-old edition could make it look like the first Walkman. it had an animation so that it looked like a really rolling cassette tape
Went to order one and it's already sold out. Maybe one day. The one in the link didn't have that completely clear top. That's the draw. I wanna watch it spin!! That's so cool.
i just don't see a point when you can get an old hi-fi for next to nothing that's built to last, has so much IO and muuuuch better components = potential for sound quality. in a pinch, it's not bad, but it's definitely for the type of person who doesn't think about their purchases.
I've looked on Amazon ( through the link ) and only seen 1 seller ( BIXUYAO ) . It was $ 79.99 + $ 3.00 s/h . There was only a 1 star comment about the seller ,,, and that person was waiting very long for an item . ( Don't know if it was the cd player though ) .
I finally gave in. I bought lots ol Lp's in the past, then switched over to cd's. But our last shops celling cds in my country closed down this year, so now I have Spotify and have more music than ever before. Ok, you never own the music, but its ok
The question is whether it is not better with a dap player today. for some of them support music apps like Spotify and TiDAL. and supports lots of different file types ranging from MP3 to DSD and of course flac. In addition, Hi-res is becoming more popular
Very rare for a portable CD player, only a very few had a TOSlink optical out, maybe one or 2 models with a coax digital out, don't recall models. Best simple option is to use a portable DVD player- most models have either optical and/or coax digital out to feed a DAC. YEs, DVD players usually larger than a CD player, but there are some with
I might get one of these as well as a feature packed Sony CD Walkman or Discman, I was looking hard trying to find ones from late 90s/early 2000s with good clear windows!
Hey! I know I'm coming from two years later, but I'm looking for a CD player with an aesthetic like this and the option for bluetooth transmission. This one is no longer being sold. Do you have any idea what I might be able to do about this?
When it's available again I may need to get one! I've been building a minimalist hifi and want a portable CD player, and this checks a lot of boxes for me!
I’m a cyclist who listens and ride simultaneously. What’s the smallest/best one for my use. Used to listen to pandora/spotify etc but found out how little artists receive…pisses me off. Thanks
I have a few vintage CD portable players...one is Sony's first generation...the size of a patio paver [brick]! A couple look like mini UFO's ! It looks very similar to a third generation Sony!
I like the work bench. Not that I don't like the kitchen, but the work bench seems more of a "guy" thing. I noticed that you have a black and turquoise bracelet on your right wrist. I have one too, black and turquoise! Looking forward to Sunday.
Probably because we're only maybe 2-3 years away until people latch onto CDs again, now that vinyl is so expensive and many new/cheap record players are garbage.
EDIT: Finally bought and returned to Amazon... the BT button doesn`t work properly and I was no able to test the BT mode since even I had finally be able to turn BT ON... it was unable to be paired to any of my speakers. It's a pity that only convert the CDs on MP3... if only had the option for FLAC it was awesome... I were thinking about buying the other that you show in this video but I can see that is 60$ and this the half of the price... i need to know more about audio quality, BT quality and if it is good to conect the aux line to my living room audio equipment :D
I'm using my old Toshiba DVD player as my CD player in my vintage Pioneer stereo setup inspired by one of your equipment videos. Unfortunately it doesn't play audio cd's that I have burned. Plays commercial copies fine. I'm looking for a modern CD player that can play burned audio cd's.
CD-R with mp3 files! Not a solved problem. Various devices exist, but none of them nail the file system interactions in a user-friendly way. Unless there's a proper display (i.e. a PC)
Mike . just a note ,, and maybe info to help you . I have also burned cd's to try to play in older "regular" car and home cd players. The mistake I made sometimes ( using Window's media player ) was ,,, I made "Data" cd's . ( Data cd's WITH mp3 files work for newer car and home units ' So ,,, for "older" car and home cd players ,,,,, I make (Select) AUDIO cd WITH .wav files . These have played good on the older players . Though you only can get about 10 - 15 songs / tracks on the Audio cd with .wav files ,,,,, compared to ALOT more on a Data cd with .mp3 files .
Great video/interesting product tnx. So searched around google to get some prices and stuff= curious, using that brand + product names and I don't really get any info except this video(YaY You). Went to amazon to see what they had and found only one. Why I'm posting this is the one that amazon had had apparently fixed the clear cover/clear CD well bottom so now I guess that lazer won't get you now. And again YaY You, I'll give you credit for that since this is the only one I watched, Gratz :D The price looked decent too. Would be a good addition to my A2+'s I use for my TT.
Damnit, if i had such cd player in 2004, i could,ve used my radio to play cd music or i could,ve record stuff on the sd card, but nowadays i don’t listen radio anymore sadly ,but yeah some times, they technology you want to have just comes too little too late.
Who the hell came out with this idea of Cheap induction plate with CD reader XD Those lasers are so weak, no harm even if you look it, those warnings are just a failsafe.
Has anyone ever seen a portable CD player that has an optical out? Looking to connect a portable player to an external DAC but haven’t seen this feature.
I have had a CD player portables before with a clear top and never once did the lazar exposed threw from while I was playing a CD and I would like to find that type of CD player with a skull candy ear bud with it
Like this CD player a lot matter of fact I went to your link and surprise it is out of stock and they have no idea when it'll come back in stock oh well I lose again
I wish we still had FM channels over here! There's only 2 (depending on region) 3 left in my country so pretty much the entire frequency range is free and clean for FM transmitters
5:38 Meh, there's probably a coating on the inside of that acrylic cover, similar to a UV filter in sunglasses. It's not allowed by consumer safety regulations to be directly exposed to CD lasers when the lid is closed.
I think it's interesting that the cover on the thumbnail is opaque with kust a smaller window, instead of all clear. The model shown on the Amazon link is also the partially opaque version.
I think it may only read / play wav , wma and mp3 FROM the micro SD card ? If you pause the video when He's talking about micro SD card and BT function ,,, you can read / see some of the specs on the unit .
