As a 3-year openvario vario user, I decide to equip my new glider with the Stefly Nav solution. I was really surprised by how easy it was to install STEFLY NAV ( someting about 2h) and how the system was designed to maximize compatibility with other platforms. It's now possible to surf tik tok from waiting your crew in your field. 😂😂 This new system totally erases all the shortcomings of its big brother the openvario, well done guys! I'm curious to see what's in store for future projects.

Stefan - Great work! Last year I bought a DuoDiscus to mentor new XC soaring pilots and equipped it with dual OpenVarios. The compact size of the new SteFly Nav will be *much* easier to fit in small instrument panel areas, such as those on the DuoDiscus. My OpenVario units are only 1 year old, but I am very tempted to upgrade!

As an XCSoar user, this is exactly the device I'm looking for. The only thing I'm missing is a CAN bus connectivity (for my own CANaerospace implementation in XCSoar).

Do you have any plans on a portable XC Soar solution (oudie like?). If you lean on the open source side of things and provide good hardware(good enough to be a de facto recommended solution with good connectivity with existing older hardware) I think you'd have a market.

So I'm guessing SeeYou Navigator can't use the Pitot tube and other pneumatic's yet? Boy it'll be an awesome solution when it can...

At the moment you will need a Bluetooth Low Energy dongle and e.g. with LXNav S10 it´s possible to get the air data. The serial ports are not accessible in SeeYou Navigator at the moment.

Stefan, where are you displaying climb and speed to fly information? Is it all on the main stefly display? I don’t see an electric vario on your panel.

There is a vario gauge displayed in the SteFly Nav display

Nice work Stephan, I use Clear Nav here in Wa state, AND Paper maps, Im kind of old fashioned in that sense. What do you think of clearnav? And would this fit in the some panel cutout. Anybody else on ClearNav? Tim T. in Seattle

Thank you. I never flew with a ClearNav display, so I have no experience with it. For the panel cutout I just checked the dimensions and compared the manuals. They are not the same but it should be possible to make a special front frame to make it work. Or you need to make a new cutout. Only the holes need to be filled and the cutout increased slightly. If you are interested, just send me a mail and we will find a good solution for you.

That's wonderfull but what's next ? An AI driven glider with an auto pilot where the "real" pilot just enjoy the scenery while checking if the system works fine ? Maybe I'm caricaturing but maybe we should go back to simpler flying . I'd like to see a competition class with club class glider and pneumatic varios and the pilot can only use a paper map .

@@SteFly USB is a week connection (designed for indoor usage) and the aircraft must encounter vibrations plus expansions and contractions; in years the link might get week and you don't want that when flying. Also, be sure to make it upright have space for water drainage should water accumulates inside. I used to work as an aircraft maintenance techie when I was a kid so my intuition tells me so. So the heat shrink or anything to secure the connection would be more safety with minimal weight addition.

@@mahmou6 Agree, that USB ports are not the best connector in a glider or plane. Of course you should use zip ties to secure the cables and then it should be fine.
