Thanks so much! I wanted to teach the new "app" directory version of Next.js but the official Next.js docs made me feel like some features were still in active development, and I don't like to make tutorials on things until it feels like the "dust has settled." A tutorial for the new "app directory" approach is on my todo list for sure!

Thanks! The comparison to PHP makes sense to me. I've never been on board with the 100% client-side rendering; in fact it made me always resent JavaScript a tiny bit. I see all the strengths of client-side rendering + routing, but something about the HTML not actually existing at the URL never sat right with me, so the static or server-side approach of Next.js does remind me of the traditional PHP sites. It's like that + all the benefits of client-side everything, and everything is already pre-wired up and ready to go with no duplicate code.

Or just "npm run build" wiil give me the files to deploy the app ?... cause i didnt see a "build" folder when you ran "npm run build" command ?

What if the _app.js file doesn't do what you show it doing? It's not recognizing the _app.js as a global file I guess.. something change in the last 5 months with reactjs?
Yes, if you don't need the data to actually live in the traditional DOM for SEO or accessibility reasons, and you know you can't cache the page at all and it needs to be generated uniquely each and every page request, then I agree, client side loading and using useState is the best option.
Hello. I've followed everything in the video until successfully deployed. But I can't see the deploy site on vercel due to Your connection is not private.
Vercel will often give you three different URLS / domains to view your site from, do none of the 3 work? Also, what if you try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave etc...)?
@@LearnWebCode I tried Brave, Chrome and Edge. None of them work. Later I cloned your repository (nextjs-youtube-demo) to my github account and then deployed to Vercel. It still cannot be visited due to "Your connection is not private"
Yes, absolutely! Most of the times the server side action you'll be performing is simply data fetching or loading / saving data from a database. It will usually be JS you're used to writing in the browser or just copying / pasting from an NPM package's documentation. No advanced Node.js knowledge is needed.
I promise I didn't manually do that 😂 - back in old RU-vid I'd manually put ads at the very end of the video; but lately in RU-vid I just check the option to let RU-vid include ads automatically; I didn't realize they'd do something that heinous lol.
You have to go to the "beta" documentation on the official website to see the app directory approach. Also, once you get to the separate beta docs you'll see "The app directory is currently in beta and we do not recommend using it in production." It has many benefits and will be the standard soon enough but as of today I think the approach that the official Next.js website recommends for production and refers to as "stable" is just fine for someone wanting to understand the framework for the first time.
