I love repeating geometric patterns and have been intrigued by this idea for a while. Glad you showed what did and didn't work here, it will be very useful for when I eventually get around to trying it. I think the orange color gives it kind of a 70's vibe. I don't hate it. Thanks for sharing!

For some tips: use stop blocks on your table saw and your drill press. You get much more consistent results with way less trouble. You can also use blue tape on both panels and glue them up with super glue. The adhesion is enough, but it doesn't rip off your wood grain. Doesn't happen always, but its really annoying, if it does. Have fun!

Pretty, pretty, pretty……pretty good. Those are pretty good doors. I built some doors once and they were almost as cool as those. Really close except they didn’t have fancy colors or cutouts…they were plywood. Just 3/4” plywood but hey at least they worked. Actually they fell apart and I had to throw them away. Really awesome looking doors! Are you concerned with wood movement? The walnut is now glued to the painted surface but the white oak will move? Also the white oak is only finished on one side so will it potato chip on you? Perhaps letting then walnut/oak float independent of the ply with finish on both sides would mitigate issues?

I have the same G0555 band saw you do and you're right it's not good for re-saw. I bought the G0531B and put a 3/4" Highland Woodworking 'Woodslicer' blade on it and it re-saws like slicing through butter. I've used those blades on the 555 but its the 5hp of the bigger band saw that really does it. Awesome cabinet doors. That's a technique I'll use in the future.
@NGinuity
@NGinuity Год назад
That woodslicer blade was a game changer for me on my Grizzly bandsaw. I also upgraded to a set of polyurethane tires. A few people recommended that I upgrade to Carter bearing guides but I found the stock ones completely sufficient for resawing; they're bearing guides too. I learned a TON from that David Marks bandsawn veneers video.

Great video; showing the process and the evolution of the idea is really helpful. On the other hand, your table saw safety makes me wince a bit. 1. Standing in the off cut "line of fire". We can see at 2:07 an off cut hits you square in the gut. Fortunately it didn't seem to have enough mass for injury, but hopefully we've all seen Stumpy's (and now Tamar's) videos of how those unexpected projectile offcuts can be way more dangerous than one might expect. Stand to the Side! 2. Using your fingers instead of feather boards and push blocks / sticks (especially for your groove cutting setup at 21:10 and again at 27:57). You may have a -SawStop- _"automatic braking system"_ but many of your viewers probably don't. It would be great if you could demo ways to make cuts that would be safe for all of us (as sometimes how to make a cut safely can be one of the biggest riddles in this hobby). You do seem to have a much safer set up for your router table, so kudos on that. I don't mean to be a wet blanket; I really do enjoy the personality and insight you provide with your videos.

Not only that, (like I commented in last video) he's very sloppy when it comes to when he wears eye protection. Most of time at miter saw he doesn't, sometimes at the jointer, etc, etc. Guess it's going to take a trip to emergency room with an infected or damaged eye for him to learn

I don’t remember specifically, but I think the re-saw is up to 13”? Of course, a new riser and fence isn’t going to make it Laguna. However, in my humble opinion, for the price vs value, you really can’t beat the Grizzly. Jason this build brings back memories, years ago I actually had a chain of craft shops and at the time I recall thinking that all craft shops looked the same... Boring as hell 😴 😒 🙄. I recall having a bright idea and decided to paint each and every single wall in different colours and the brighter the colours the better. Hence the flood of memories when seeing you using the bright orange 🍊 paint 🎨. Needless to say the shops nolonger looked like everyone else's shops and as daft as it sounds I actually noticed a increase in the weekly takings in each of the shops that I owned. Sounds daft to say the very least but honestly just a bit of paint seemed to help open people's wallets and purses alittle bit wider when it came to them parting with their hard earned money 💰 🤑 💸. What's the plan for the carcass please don't say it's lime green or something similar 😉 abit of good old hardwood is in order to help the door design Pop 😉. As always brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧. Fiction writers tend to fall into one of two camps, Planners and Pantsers. Planners know where their story will be going, and will apply effort towards getting there convincingly. Pantsers are "flying by the seat of their pants", and apply their efforts going forwards and back, rewriting, and rewriting, and etc., trying to see where their story is taking itself. George R. R. Martin is a Pantser (Gardener for more polite company), as is Stephen King. Sir, I believe you may be a Pantser.

Great video! I like the overall effect, but since everyone’s a critic, I’ll add my two cents. The contrast of the grain in the oak panels made the total door a bit too busy. You end up with star shapes made of 2 different colors… inside of polka dots… inside of stripes. A different light wood with straight, low-contrast grain would have worked better, in my (not necessarily valuable opinion). I certainly understand a strong desire to use oak because of its role in making whiskey (oak barrels), but it came at an aesthetic cost. Thanks again for a great video! I appreciate the way you let us into your thought process and working through challenges. There are plenty of channels which simply present rehearsed tutorials on projects that the presenter has made before and has worked out the bugs.

10:42 If you're doing layout and want a very accurate and consistent pattern then you shouldn't move the measuring tool to a new "reference point" during your layout as you're changing the primary point of reference every time you do. With an ever changing reference point, every time you moved the ruler you introduced another chance for compounding errors. There are also faster ways to do that layout, you could have used a simple pair of dividers; an equidistant layout divider, a storyboard stick(woodpecker sells a fancy one but, you could easily make your own), or my preferred method, used a jig. The "test piece" you made could have easily been made into a jig that would have enabled you to quickly transfer those circles in a repeatable pattern.
