I've been trying out the new Bokashi Organko 2 home composter to see if I can take my composting game to the next level.
It uses microorganisms to ferment kitchen waste, including meat & dairy, to speed up the composting process.
Some of the main benefits I found included:
zero smells; the unit is sealed
less emptying; rather than daily emptying with regular kitchen caddies, this stayed on my windowsill for 2 weeks, getting on with its job
useful by-product; the naturally occurring fermentation liquid can be diluted to use as a plant feed (200 parts water: 1 part fermentation liquid) or used to keep your drains clear and odour-free
attractive; the Bokashi Organko 2 is genuinely attractive and looks good on the kitchen windowsill
less waste - I now have a method of composting meat, dairy & cooked food, in addition to the usual kitchen scraps & vegetable peel
eco-friendly; the Bokashi Organko 2 is made in the EU from biodegradable recycled plastic
I'm really pleased with the results!
If you're in the UK you can find out more and get your own Bokashi Organko 2 at Wiggly Wigglers, with 5% off for a limited time if you use the code thehandsomegardener at checkout:

I'm not keen on the smell of the fermented Bokashi. You still have to find a place to bury it, and with such a big amount it takes some doing! I don't use our Bokashi any more because of these issues. I trench compost directly into the ground and find that works really well.🥀

Hi, I've seen other videos like that but nobody says what is the final result after 2 weeks, how it looks and can I use it directly to the garden. Can you help me with that info?

Before putting in composter you freeze the scraps and it will compost twice as fast. Give that a try and let me know your results. The freezing breaks the cell walls and helps the process speed up. I do the same thing with my worm composting.

I’m definitely going to give that a try, especially on the weeks when the food waste is piling up quicker than usual. Thanks for the tip!
