That is absolutely correct. The first thing I do when I "take charge" of a new (or even used) weapon is to field strip, inspect, and clean that weapon PRIOR to test firing it (Range work) before I even CONSIDER deployment of that weapon.

Nah, I disagree - There are such things as legit accidental discharges, but they're quite rare compared to NDs. Ferinstance, I was at the range a while back, getting the feel of a new-to-me rifle - A lever action .22Mag. Ran a few rounds downrange, and was going to set the gun down and bring the target back to see if it had hit where I pointed. "Safe" on this gun means "put the hammer on half-cock". I knew full well there was a live round in the chamber. Procedure to "safe" this new-to-me weapon is "Thumb on hammer to hold, pull trigger while holding hammer with thumb, then release trigger and ease hammer down until half-cock engages". Apparently, I held the trigger too long, or missed the half-cock notch, 'cause I ended up riding the hammer all the way down without engaging ANYTHING. (didn't fire the gun, either) So pull hammer back and try for the half-cock notch again - Thumb slipped while pulling the hammer back, hammer fell from its "partway back" position, and hit the live round hard enough to produce the predictable BANG. Accidental/unintended (not negligent) discharge. Since I was screwing around with the trigger/hammer of a gun I knew to be loaded, I made sure the only thing that could possibly be hit was the berm. And that's exactly what got hit when my thuumb slipped and the hammer fell. Call that negligent if you like, but I'll call you wrong.

But remember, Jay told us how they are all expert marksmen in the military. What a friggin’ joke. A whole bunch of wannabes being led by Grandmaster Idiot.

Not quite accurate. I had an sks that emptied the magazine when the bolt was dropped. Cosmoline from the factory was preventing the sear from engaging the hammer. There were some Remington 700s that were firing when the bolt was vigorously close. While rare, inadvertent discharge is possible.

The very first time I was on a range, I was given a safety demonstration, and small instruction on how to use a rifle, Said rifle was laid down on the wooden table (Outdoor range) and we stepped 20-25 feet away, and my instructor was showing me how to load a magazine, when on that same table, a Mosin Nagant just went off. To this day none of us could explain why a completely unattended Mosin, that had not been fired at all that day would have possibly gone off, I have heard everything from ghosts to the sun getting so hot it made something go off (Lol) I don't know if I will ever get a real explanation of how it happened, but I have just always considered it a "Make sure the gun is always pointed in a safe direction" anecdote lol.
