Pat White, star quarterback for the Dolphins, career-ending helmet-to-helmet hit after just 13 pro games. White started and won four straight bowl games while at West Virginia. He’s still the only quarterback in NCAA history to accomplish that feat.
@@exoticgoodz6672 so how would they do that? Have a meeting beforehand discussing exactly what to do? And also, what about coin flips? You can’t rig that
You can't have a "Quarterbacks Getting Destroyed" video without a single Lawrence Taylor hit. If you watched one of LT's highlight videos, you would see most of the hits in this video are tame in comparison. LT was ferocious. He changed the game forever and QB's we're terrified of him.
Very true. I don't think a QB was ever more 'destroyed' than Theisman was by LT. But most of those clips would be LT knocking the hell out of Jaworski.
Ah!!!! The good ole days. When having a nasty defense really meant alot. But from some of these hits. You can see why some changes had to happen. Players got bigger, faster. More athletic and dangerous.
Dude the other team should’ve been on his side why tf u tryna kill him he’s going down!! He should be benched for that along with any other dirty players thatts really fucked up those players have wives and kids and your gonna try to give them mental problems cause u wanna prove you can hit someone real hard. Like bruh go hit the fucking running back like that how come they don’t cheap shot dudes like marshawn!!??
@@nopainnogain7776 I don't agree with that. Sliding is very tricky and is an awful situation for any defender. You cannot simply stop your body in mid dive and you can't read people's mind to know if they are gonna slide or not. What if Flacco kept going and Alonso didn't hit him cause he thought he was gonna slide? Flacco would be in the end zone. Alonso did his job and stopped him. He slid late right into Alonso as well. These slides need to be evaluated and given better clarity.
They talk about either a lot, and the QB is the only offensive position who is mostly a sitting duck with minimal movement (5-step drops, stay in the pocket). I mean maybe the OL move less but those are trees, not sticks.
This used to be called “good defense”. Now it’s dirty play. You sack the quarterback, you could be looking at a personal foul. It’s becoming so impossible to play defense, football will eventually look more like basketball with tic-tac fouls and zero shutouts. I would be more agreeable with the rule changes if they started calling targeting on the ball carriers. But, they need to “protect their stars“, and that does not apply to any defensive player. I know I am wrong about about player safety, but in a few years, this will no longer be American Football, just “Pass Skeleton”.
I think in 20 years it will be flag football. The QB will be wearing a flag or the skill position players all will. They’re doing the trial at the pro bowl.
this the most under-rated comment on here. THAT's the reason you had to have the pendulum swing waaaay the other way with protecting qbs. Knocking out the other teams starting QB and ushering Steve DeBerg or Mike Tomczak into the game was the shortest path to victory and if it was a division rival? even more lasting effects. 15 yards and 25K fine didn't mean shit if Brady was in a cast or Drew Brees was concussed, the defense would accept that result every time. That mentality is why the QBs are treated like glass today. The NFL had no choice.
Hate to see these guys take a beating. Especially when they don’t see it coming. Certainly understand why the more mobile QB’s would rather run and slide than stand and wait to pass and get hit.
This video should start and end with Tracy Scroggins of the Luons hitting Mike Tomczak Pittsburgh in 95. It's the game that Rod Woodson blew out his knee trying to tackle Barry Sanders in week one... and he came back to play in the SB that year...very impressive.
it seems rather funny that "roughing the passer" is called after Brady, Rogers, Brees, etc get get sacked, or hit on a slide, while a Wentz, Trubinsky, Newton don't get those calls.....I maintain that game "officials" are corrupt, scripting, and downright prejudiced against certain teams, and individual players
Funny how in like half of these the ref instinctually tosses a flag. Some are clearly late or malicious, but most are good clean hard hits, but perfectly legal.
This whole “rookies have to earn calls” crap is so stupid. The fact that the hit on Burrow in the eagles game isn’t called is roughing is ridiculous when more “established” QB’s get calls for people getting blocked into their feet. Stuff is so dumb.
A number of these supposedly late hits are really unavoidable. When you are moving at that speed it is nearly impossible to stop from a collision. Physics is not a thing that you can ignore.
This roughing the passer call is one of the dumbest calls. I get it if they are way late in hitting the qb but they are calling right as the ball comes out. Can't even touch the qb.
My thing is, why is it a flag whenever a QB gets hit? A clean hit will still be a flag, a hard hit is a flag, a push is a flag how do you hit them than? Do you just not touch them?
I remember a time when the quarterback played the game with the same rules as all the other players. That position is now played by a bunch of woosies who wouldn’t last three games in the old NFL!
Everytime I see a penalty flag for a clean hit - that just so happens to be hard as hell - it alters my feelings about this game i love significantly. Could I take those hits... absolutely not. Still, I take issue with a physical game punishing clean physicality simply because it looks malicious.
I'm a DE FAN.... Deacon Jones Jack Youngblood.... the fiercest hit on a QB I've ever seen in a pro game was years ago BUCS/ REDSKINS GAME... I think it was Trent Green at QB...DE or DT came from behind wrapped him and drove him face first into the grass....When Green lifted his head up all the squares in his face mask were full of sod! Lights out for sure...it was dark inside that helmet!
And owns the the Q/B Position. No one in the history of this position. No one will ever top it will never happen. Now he wants to be the first Q/B to win a SB with 3 different teams!!!!!
Every single play looked clean as hell to me. Theyre changing the game by treating qbs like princess's. Protect your QB and maybe dont leave the pocket and wander out into no mans land with no protection.
