Hard hits like these occur at all levels. High schoolers hit hard to impress college scouts. The harder they hit could get them noticed by an elite program. Once in college, they continue hit hard, to try go impress professional scouts in hope to either be drafted by a team or at least get an invite to tryout for the team roster or a position on the practice squad.
They probably dont know who Reggie Bush is but I'll leave them a time stamp lol, 1:40. Lifelong Trojan fan and being able watch him play at the Coliseum in his college days was straight up fiiiiiiire.
I always loved the opposing college coach that said as soon as Reggie has the ball the band can start playing fight song because its probably a touchdown.
Often, when a ref fails to call a foul for unnecessary roughness or something like that, the players will get even on the field. There are players that intend to hit this hard every time they tackle. But there are several revenge slams in this video. When refs fail, the players get more dangerous.
That's why I love hockey. You can actually hit a guy in the mouth and as long as he fights back you go sit in time out for 5 minutes then can keep playing like nothing happened.
2:23 that was my university in the white uniforms making the hit. The guy who hit him's name is Tony Lippett. TonyLippettKillsBaylorKicker was trending so much that the Baylor kicker had to issue a statement that he was in fact, alive.
Some of these are college football and even high school. And OUCH! Having been on the receiving end and giving end of these kinds of hits, it stays with you for a good while.
A lot of these resulted in concussions, a few resulted in broken or bruised ribs. Even through all that padding, the hits are BRUTAL. Oddly, these are some of the more 'crowd pleasing' hits because some I've seen are FAR worse. Kurt Warner to Anquan Boldin comes to mind, where 2 guys impacted his helmet so hard that it completely shattered his jaw. He had to have a plate put in and lots of screws, dental work, and stitches. The DeSean Jackson crossing pattern hit was one of the hardest small guy hits ever, and that's not on here. The corner and Jackson got a concussion and it was a clean hit (shoulder on shoulder). One of the hardest hits I've seen on live TV didn't look hard unless you looked at what happened, ever want a see 185 lb. dude get blindside hit by a 450+ lb. monster going full speed? It was a clean hit to his stomach and chest and he had bruised ribs and whiplash. That's what happened to poor Donald Driver WR for the Bills when he got hit by Vince Wilfork NT for the Patriots.
Lol. I wasn’t aware of the Desean Jackson hit. My question: If it was shoulder to shoulder, how the heck did they both get concussions? I’m going to go look for that after this video.
Back in the 70's the Raiders had a Safety named Jack Tatum. His nickname was The Assassin. He put a hit on a guy that actually paralyzed him! Nice reaction Roos 🤙
Depending on position (quarterbacks tend to play longer given you can’t touch them barely) a lot of guys retire early compared to other sport’s. Once you hit 30 you’re considered old
Rugby fans: "Pads? Helmets? They're soft." Also rugby fans after this video: "Oh!! ...Oh!!! ...Oh!! ...Oh my god!!! ...Is that legal?? ...is he DEAD??!"
This is why in rugby and league you have to use technique. Tackling like this would do far too much damage and would kill the game as there would be too many stoppages.
"You need to have your..." ...head on a swivel, is the popular expression. can you check out funniest mic'd up moments (players and coaches mic'd during the game)
I've seen a few reactions to this asking can they do that in response to players hitting others without the ball. The answer is hell yeah, you have to give your team mate with the ball every opportunity you can. If that means leveling the guy chasing him down so be it.
The Roos React, because of brain injuries a lot of those hits now are illegal. Any hit to the head will cause a flag to be thrown and in college football the player that did the illegal hit is kick out of the game. Loved the video reaction.
That big kid that you called Andre the Giant was from a high school clip. This video had a a few high school clips. Honestly college and NFL is hard to differentiate if you don't know the teams because they both have such large stadiums.
Some of these clips are Highschool and College. So just think, after the game they have to go back to class, or even finish their homework. I'd know cause I played through 4 years of highschool. I played as a Corner Back (DB). The hits don't hurt as much when they happen, they hurt the next few days when you're already in another game.
In most of the world, NFL is their generic name for anything american football, because in most countries there really isn't much college or high school sports thats taken seriously, only the prolevel.
Another one for the infamous here comes the boom video, I Love watching non americans react to it.Also I think this is the first video to use that song.
The off-the-ball hits are called blocks. Your allowed to block people from tackling your ball carrier. They do have rules in place nowadays for some of these hits, but you hardly see anything called for the blocks.
Fun fact NFL lineman are so big and powerful that every play is equivalent to a car crash going about 25-30 miles and hour inside their helmet so just imagine getting in around 60 car crashes every Sunday
Best way I've heard it put "A surprise rugby hit is like falling off a bike, unexpected but you always get back up, a surprise American football hit is like a car accident, you might get back up"
Loved watching you guys react to Bill Burr, this one was fun too. One thing I can't get enough of lately are reactions to the song "We Got the Moves" by Eskimo Callboy. Not sure what your musical tastes are but the video alone is worth the price of admission. Finding that song is probably the happiest I've felt since Sydney went into its first COVID lockdown. I'd love to see what you think of it.
I loved watching another reaction to the same video. A young French girl. At the end of the video, she appeared to be in need of therapy...... and a hug.
The average length of a player's career in the National Football League (NFL) is relatively short, with the average career lasting around 3.3 years. That's why they make such insane money.
That sound is one of the most satisfying sounds. I always remember I hit one guy so hard it instantly made my nose run like a faucet. Probably horrible for me but to see him lying on the ground made it worth it.
The point of the massive impact hits is intimidation. Like you would want the opposing receiver (ball catcher) to be more focused on the impact he is about to take rather than catching the ball. Or the quarterback (thrower) won't be able to get through his progressions before feeling the need to throw. Wrapping up and tackling with proper form is how you bring someone down reliably. The big hits are high risk-high reward plays.
Even as a kid, the coach told us to hit the other guy hard enough to make him afraid of you. Seriously... I was 9. He wasn't joking... it was his instruction, and he meant it. He explained that if they were thinking about YOU, they weren't thinking about their job on the next play. Our defensive line would PUNISH their offensive line so much at the start of the game, by the second quarter, they were immediately retreating at the snap, collapsing the pocket on the QB. It was a brutal strategy, but it worked. He even instructed me once to jump offsides on the first snap of the game, told me to roll the center over and lay the QB out... before the snap. I asked about the penalty, he said, it would be worth it. The center was so twitchy for the rest of the game, they fumbled the snap 4 times.
A lot of these clips are high school and college games. The one where you mentioned Andre the giant was a high school game. One is even Pee Wee football.
Hockey! You guys have have to review one of the many videos of the NHLs biggest hits. I might be off on the numbers but it’s something like the players are on average 15% smaller than NFL players but the hits are 20% harder. Oh yeah, there are also boards to hit into and bounce off of.
If your teammate has the ball and an opponent is attempting to tackle them, you can shove the opponent to the ground. It's called a "Block", but you have to be careful how you do it, because you can get a penalty for "unnecessary roughness"
The hits in rugby, afl and american football can all be brutal what sperates american footbal form the rest is the amazing catching and throwing skills, only baseball can compare.
Hey, I know the guy at 2:02 #52 in the red San Francisco 49ers! His name is Patrick Willis. We're from the same hometown and babysit his pitbulls lol. He's retired now but still a beast. 🤘🤘
Ya might wanna look up CTE and players donating their brains for research after death. Helmets can't stop the brain from going 60km/hr one direction then immediately 30 the other direction
Most of the game is rugby style tackles (fundamental blocks). These hits are rarer (2-3 per game). They serve to dislodge the ball, intimidate the receiver from making an easy catch over the middle (an open spot that offenses like to attack due to spacing issues), prevent a first down (the yellow line on the screen is where the most vicious hits can occur, and lastly the hype up the team. In the old days the defender would stand over the opponent and taunt him and some have dropped to all 4 to bark at the knocked out opponent. The modern prayer circle didn't exist in the 70s or 80s. Just part of the game. So players that are hit are taught to hold on to the ball no matter what because you're still going to get hit and to pop right back up not to give opponent satisfaction. It's their way of deflating the hitter showing it didn't faze them. Then they go to sideline and pass out . The culture was different in the past. Now it's like soccer begging for a flag.
I don't know if film of it exists, but I once saw Lester Hayes hit a guy so hard that I didn't think the guy would ever get up. We were in the front row of the top tier of the stadium and you could hear the hit.
the technique those guys are so big an fast and don't slow down if you don't hit them as hard as possible they are not going to stop. the ball carrier will truck right over you and keep going.
The more responsible youth leagues strongly prohibit helmet-to-helmet contact and teach "heads up" tackling to prevent concussions. That's not to say they don't still throw each other and that shoulder tackles don't pack a punch, but they also learn how to take a hit. My boy ended up in football because he played too rough with kids his age. He loves it!
Yeah. The sport used to be even more violent. Prior to rules changes in 1906 College Football players were dying on the field. NFL wasn't around yet. Rules changes included, ban on the flying wedge play. The players would line up like a V but inverted (for the offense) and charge headlong into one another snapping the ball right before they reached the line of scrimmage. The formation was banned, now you are required to have 7 men on the line of scrimmage at the snap, none moving forward. The men on the either end of the line must be an eligible receiver. Forward motion, by the offense at the snap is a 5 yard penalty for American football is illegal motion. Canadian Football allows men in the backfield to be moving forward at the snap. You must have 7 men on the line of scrimmage in both American & Canadian Football. In both codes it's a 5 yard penalty. Americans call it Illegal Formation, Canadians call it No End. Receivers were originally called ends. They also increased the amount of yards needed to keep the ball from 5 to 10 yards in 3 downs. 4th Down would be added to American Football in 1912. Canadian Football didn't add 4th Down. The forward pass was also added. You should check out Best Traditions in College Football parts 1 & 2. College Football is very big in the U.S.. College games, in some places have larger attendance than NFL games.
If you haven't already watch NHLs worst injuries. I love hockey cus you can full on fight. Then just sit in time out for 5 minutes. You throw a punch in any other sport. It's a fine, disqualification, suspension or straight up ban. Not hockey. "Go sir the corner and think about what you did"
U should check out NHL's greatest hits. To play hockey you have to have the power of an american footballer the agility of a ballerina the stamina of a long distance runner and the hand/eye coordination of an elite gamer all in one
Yeah the popular expression that you’re taught from peewee football on is “you need to have your head on a swivel!” Or these kind of hits happen. Also wanted to note that most of these would be illegal hits now. Look up CTEand the NFL they have better equipment now and the rules have changed but these guys still get concussions.
Hi guys. Not all of these are NFL highlights. There are some college, some Canadian Football league and that huge guy carrying the ball I think was a high school kid. Seriously though, you should check out some of the skillful looks at the game. Try Barry Sanders top 50 plays of all time. Beautiful to watch. Enjoy you guys a lot.
The tactical reason they try to hit hard is to separate the man from the ball. If you knock the ball out of the opposing players hands, then your team can recover it or force an incomplete pass. The other reason is psychological warfare. If a receiver gets hit hard, he’ll be thinking about it every time he runs in that same area and it throws his game off. Of course most defenders just like putting a good hit on someone too.
It's time for the beauty of American football. Try "Barry Sanders' 50 greatest runs" from NFL productions and "Best Hurdles In Football History" by Ding Productions.
I got hit like the first guy. I bit of the tip my tongue, got a concussion, and got 60 stitches from my lip the bottom of my chin. I couldn’t play anymore that season and half of the next season. My brain smacked my skull so bad that I had brain matter on my skull. I had extreme brain trauma right after. It was like having a migraine, but worse. I had central nervous system issues to this day, but playing was fun. No way to play American football and not collide with someone.
Love your reaction vids, should check out the late John Pinette, saw him in person 2 weeks prior. Think his best clips are when he's talking about going on a diet, the Waterpark, and dairy queen
When they say rugby is a contact sport and football is a collision sport thats a nice way of saying ours is alot rougher.. and it's not a bad thing bc that just shows you guys care about people's health over entertainment while America on the other hand will sell there souls for entertainment and quite literally people are happy to give there health at the expense of others entertainment
More than likely, the one's that looked more like wrestling moves, more than tackles. They would draw an Unsportsmanlike Conduct/Unnecessary Roughness flag, these days.
