Part of why Washington didn’t see a 1,000 yard rusher until the 70’s is because they endured a nearly quarter century long playoff drought and thus weren’t good generally since the season went to 12 let alone 14 games. They also didn’t exactly have the best crop of running backs. There was a Hall of Fame back in Bobby Mitchell in the early 60’s, but he was used as both a runner and receiver before flex was a term.

I agree with Emmitt in 1993 being the best season by a running back. Capping it off with a second straight Super Bowl clinched it for me. If QB's are judged by championships, this is how I'd make my pick for RB's. Also, Dallas went 12-4 that year. All four losses were either when Emmitt missed (contract holdout the first two weeks) or failed to finish the game (injury in back to back midseason games).

Amazes me that Emmitt doesn’t get the football equivalent of the “LeBron GOAT” argument with his longevity & consistency
@Riles3152

Dallas is my team from all the way back to the early/mid 90's, so Emmitt was my guy, but objectively, people who aren't biased know that he wasn't the greatest in terms of ability, talent, speed, power, dominance, size, versatility etc. Emmitt got the most out of what he had and got the job done in a basic way.
