Thanks for this MUCH NEEDED woodgas fix, my fellow wattage worker :) . I was getting kinda jittery, and I was wondering watt was causing it. Turns out that it was woodgas video withdrawal syndrome, but you dun fix me up real good. Keep setting fire to your wattage wagon, oh woody one :) .
The addiction is strong , oh jittery-one. Remember the days of waiting at the computer for another wood gas video? Times were better then and we never thought it would end. But alas, the chirping in the back of the shop under piles of half completed projects needs to be freed. So here you go, my friend. Once again I found the tiny details are the heartbeat of a true wood gas experience.... like being a well driller, figuring out what's going on when you can't actually see what's going on !
The model gasifier you have is a DFX 4. DFX stands for Dual Fuel Crossflow. Matts’ latest creation is the DXF 10 which is a downflow unit like an imbert. He seems to be heading more to that style, I think, because they are faster and cheaper to build, and they can run on wood or charcoal.
You are correct. He's extracting all the heat and gas into one unit now Full circle. There's something to be said to be able to light this rig at one end , walk up to the other end and start the engine. It's that simple.
We are keeping the DFX like here in the video; but will be re freshing the design and only offering the size that was the DFX-S3. This will be the 2024 CFX and marketed specifically for those that want to run Charcoal. The (DXF wood fuel unit) we are moving to a 14 inch reactor and have phased out the DXF-10. The DXF-14 we can do a lot more with as we can build many different internals that insert into the unit to make it very versitile. However, even though it can run on charcoal, this will be difcult to get the clinkers out. So it will be better suited for wood fuels and marketed that way from now on. We will offer the units with wood fuel cores standard; however they will not come pre installed. We want new users to start out in charcoal mode to learn the machine and how things should be. Then you can install the core once you have experienced how things should work.
Hey Bill it's nice to see you finding the time for the gasifier project. I really like the wireless microphone setup. I really want to add that feature to my cameras and eventually I will but the cameras I have don't have the external microphone jacks but like the Marines and with my electronics bench, I will learn to IMPROVISE "modify" ADAPT "figure it out" and OVERCOME "make it actually work" but that's a project for another time. We are wide open here with home and automotive projects so the plate is full here too. Someone mentioned in the comments that your audio was a bit scratchy but that's just the gain settings and if you tinker with it, you'll figure it out. It still sounds clear as it is right now so no problems understanding you whatsoever.
Mike, If anyone can modify and conquer my vote goes to you. One thing this DJI mics can do is stand alone record without sending to the receiver, that way using an editing program you could do voice-over video, combining the video and audio. That would be one way to eliminate the engine noise. But more work as the tradeoff. I've always wanted to try voice over..... LOL my wife is really good at it, but that could get real expensive :). I upgraded my camera just to get the Mic input. Anyhow, this seems to work well and maybe better with a little tweaking.
I like that new mic system and the range is awesome. I may need to get one for myself. That charcoal gasifier is the only way to fly. Starts quick and runs great. There is probable no moisture problem like there can be with wood?

Checking the ammo box filter after the third run there was no tar, no moisture to speak of. also ran my finger on the inside of the inlet hose to the engine only to find a small hint of black soot? Barely noticeable. I'll have to tinker with the mic gain function to find the sweet spot while working around the running engines. It does have potential ! I purchased the two mic/ one receiver from Amazon .
The engine is a Harbor Freight 420 cc, 13 hp. Turning a 60amp Delco 1 wire to charge 8 6VDC deep cycle lead acid batteries. A/C output is through a 3000 watt pure sign wave Samlex inverter. I'm in the process of switching out the batteries for LiFePO4 batteries.
@nhhbbyloggr5022 That's pretty good stuff you can do a lot with that . Have you seen that the engine has more power at 2500 to 2800 rpm than 3000 rpm . Mine certainly struggled whit a 3 5 kw load at 3000 rpm en quickly stabilises around 2700
@@oscarverwey I have not had enough run time with this set up to find a sweet spot. I suspect I will at some point when we lose the grid power and I'm forced to make load choices . That said, I'm glad it works on any level for now.. I have installed the new modified water/steam injection nozzle which should boost the " octane" of the gas.
How big is the fuel pieces you are using? Sounds like smaller pieces might be better. And can you show us what comes out the clean out door? I’m guessing it is just ash.
I mixed some of the lump charcoal which I made in our retort last year along with charcoal from Matt's kiln which comes with the DXF4. The pieces range from the size 3/4 diameter to fist size . I can see where the smaller pieces would work better without the bridging I had earlier in the morning. The shavings filter is still clean after the third run. I did check the cleanout door after Sunday's longer run and there was less than a half teaspoon of ash. Basically negligible.
@@nhhbbyloggr5022 The clean out system, is designed so that you can slide the grate out half way and then poke the fines and packing out to the bottom. Shove the grate back in and then drag out what has fallen into the chamber. :) Or you can do a full dump and completely removed the grate to help make it easier for a full clean out.
