I'm new to the NHL series and these tips really help man!

I'll give you a review for the NHL Franchise. Each year they add new animations, a few physics upgrades, tweak the AI and the Graphics. Other than that, the only thing the game is worth is playing online and playing with an up to date roster. After NHL 11, I recognized various broken game mechanics that still haven't been fixed. The worst game mechanic I've come across so far is the maneuverability of my player's skating. Although NHL 11 is ancient and the skating looks ridiculous, there was no algorithm in the programming that kept a player from quickly changing directions. It only took 500ms to 1 second for you to do that. In real life it is hard to just turn and do things like that, which is fine for NHL 12+. However, they never made it so defense was a little easier when using the defensive buttons. When I try and man to man someone, the skating is so screwy that I am almost always moving when I am trying not to. This of course leads to me being out of position to block a pass or pressure the player that is receiving the puck. They really should consider either adding an optional setting for man to man lock on. I shouldn't be skating all over the place, I've played this game enough times to have self control. If they don't choose a lock on system for defense, they should DEFINITELY choose an automatic aiming system for poke checking\stick lifting so you don't miss every single time. In NHL 11, I could do anything defensively no problem at all even without any help with computer assistance. It just isn't the case anymore. The worst thing about this game and for all I know, any newer game is highly inconsistent of getting my player turned towards something fast enough. I noticed it is always worse when I am shooting, or when I am trying to block passes. The AI just does everything automatically so they don't ever make mistakes with it. I really don't think I can beat an AI opponent in any situation where it takes mechanical skill, only in NHL 11 because it wasn't shit. Instead of automated shit controlling things that should be based on skill and not luck, back in the day you actually could effectively do things that made you a worth while player to have on a team.

would love a quick vid on what you set up your offense as. I struggle sometimes to get my other Ayers consistently in these positions to score a 1t.

I have found it to be easier to score this year. I have had a ton of fluky goals aswell little tricklers ect go in.

I find the best way to score in the shootout is to go low blocker. If you are a lefty start to the right, if you are a righty then go in from the left. Start to curl towards the middle right at the top of the circle, curl the puck back to your forehand, and let it rip. Have won all my shootouts by scoring this way for the game winner.

Hey bacon, you did the video on all the useful Dekes on how to score. In NHL 16 how do you do a quick crossover start when receiving the pass as a standstill?

I wish that the goalies saved these a little more often, and increase the amount of "lucky" goals just to make the game feel a little more natural and not defend certain areas of the ice hardcore, because these are the only real areas to score from.

please show us how to counter the cross crease passes. Im finding myself in seemingly perfect position to stop it and it goes through my skates more often then not.

HUT lost its skill factor. I am in D10 against crosby, malkin, ovi like fuck off. Not to mention people just circle around the dot waiting for a cross crease lmao. Play EASHL and L2P for real

Bacon, when I first played NHL 08, I lost a game 13-0. The guy on the other end told me I should learn how to play the game. I think what he meant (and what you mean) is learn how to exploit the game. I hope EA takes notice, and can fix/patch the game to reduce the number of times these goals go in.

I find toe drags work almost as well as a cross crease backhand top shelf.

I must admit, I've scored more goals after watching this, but not as many shots are going in as i want. The short side sipe never goes in. The most useful goal ive found is where in the rare event the centerman ends up with the puck after an offensive zone faceoff, sakte to middle of ice and leter rip far side

Can u do a video abot how to defend the one timers? Usually i just try to be in the passing line but it just goes trough me

Ever since that tuner I haven't been able to score jack shit no matter how bad I outplay the other guy, it's frustrating.

Bacon please could you give us a tutorial or just some tips on how to stop the one timers. I'm getting killed with them.

On one of the old ones on ps2 you could shoot it from the half mark and it would go in everytime! I was the Bruins and I versed the Rangers and beat them I want to say 35-4 yeah it was really easy back then!

Hey Bacon can you show us how to cycle the puck down low? Once I get into their zone I have a hard time finding open passes or a lane for a shot and they just spam me with poke checks or pin me on the boards?

Bacon is the cross crease king. That's how he scores 95% of his goals.

I was good at NHL 15 ( only lost 4 out 50 games in head to head playing with the wings) and I got 16 on sale and I have to say that scoring now seams so cheesy. Either it goes in every time or it never hits. I used to just pepper the goalie with 30-40 a game and win by 4-5, now the only way I score is with the one T and I lose 2-4 all the time. I miss the PS3 style...

I discovered that backhand wrap around went in almost 90% of the time in nhl15. In one game i just tried a wrap around for the sake of it and it went in 4 times in a row.

I really hate that break away goal, i mean all the other ways I at least have a chance to get the defender back when they try and make a move, but that one is just the worst, no move required, the hardest way to catch them and goalie has such a hard time with it for no real reason. ( although if you see them doing this, it's time for aggressive goalie )

Here's how I score (17-3 online so far in 16): 1. Cross crease one-t's 2. Skate behind/around the net to cross crease one-t's... sorry lol 3. On breakaways... always go backhand 4. As Bacon showed, skating directly across the crease off faceoff wins 5. Taking risks defensively near the blue line with the poke check, will lead to many breakaways. Add me on PS4 (SoonerMikey)

Ok Bacon...got a few more questions. A) are you on xbox1...if so I would LOVE to play you and pick up some pointers. I play with the Bruins, and it seems that even in season mode I end up losing 1 goal games no matter WHAT I DO!!!! Also, again on be a pro, is it better to auto assign my point (CPU would do it)? I have tried pulling back, aiming, then pushing forward on the stick....YEEEEEEEESH it is hard as hell and I never seem to have the time to do it. I am tempted to go from skill stick back to the hybrid system, but I don't know how to go to the bench in Be A Pro if I do that. Tell me you are on xbox1 and can show me some stuff. Trying to learn these dekes as well.

It's not that the A.I. defense needs to be better it's the fact that even though almost every goalie in NHL is a butterfly goalie so their weakness is high shots but that inside the hash shot should not work EVERYTIME. In real life the goalie isn't sitting back on it that much and even if you step up to block it they can do a quick deke and you've left yourself open for a one-timer so that inside the hash shot either needs to be nerfed or have the reaction and positioning of A.I. goalies be smarter.. the same thing happens on EASHL if you decide to chose Hybrid style that shot never goes in.

Oh I almost forgot and this is killing me. What settings would I need to WAKE MY DAMN DEFENSEMAN UP. I try to cycle sometimes and when I pass back to the point (where MOST defensemen should be when I'm trying to cycle, they're either asleep, making a sandwich, or calling their gf. Whatever they're doing they are NOT looking for the puck to come their way. I have my sliders at 1-2-2 aggressive, 1-2-2 blue line, how should I set my sliders up, I like to attack but I don't want to really get cherry picked either, cause getting scored on like that is a pain in the ass (goalies also can go on vacation, or decide to do yoga practice instead of playing goalie). thanks or the help

Whenever I'm playing locally against someone whoever is attacking the net at the bottom of the screen has to flick up then down to shoot. Can I fix this in the settings?
