That's right, NHL '94 got a PS2 port, being included on that console's version of NHL 06. I made this video to highlight some of the differences between it and the vanilla Genesis version, because it has a lot of unusual quirks, mostly in the audio department:
-All player names are changed due to rights issues, and even then-active players like Joe Sakic were renamed for consistency;
-The Hartford Whalers were renamed the Hartford Canes, because the NHL didn't re-acquire the rights to the Whalers trademarks from their post-relocation holders (the Connecticut state government, I think?) until 2009;
-Audio in general sounds very distorted and clippy on this port;
-User names are permanently disabled, since it lacks the ability to save data;
-The number of audio channels seems limited to only about 1-2, maybe 3 tops - the crowd buzz constant in the original is gone here, and stuff like organ music cuts out when on-ice sound effects are played;
-On the flipside, organ music now plays indefinitely until a sound cuts it off; you can pause the game when a song is playing to keep it going forever - like I showed with Brass Bonanza at the start of the 2nd period. :P
-Surprisingly the playoff modes WEREN'T removed, you can play postseason mode if you want - it just can't save your progress, so if you want to win the Cup, you gotta do it in one sitting.
