It's kind of disappointing, but to my knowledge, they don't sell $5 "Hot N Ready" pizzas in the Little Ceasers Arena. They really should though. Put pressure on other teams to sell cheaper concessions...
As a former Grizzlies fan who long accepted we in Vancouver don't really have a decent chance of getting a team back, I welcome the Kraken to the NHL, and fully endorse Seattle getting the Sonics back in whatever capacity works.
When the arena in Winnipeg was originally built, the main tennant was the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL). However, once the franchise in Atlanta decided to relocate, the new Jets became the main tennant in 2011.
6:18 To answer your question, Rogers Communications is one of the big media companies in Canada, and they own Sportsnet, who currently has the main NHL broadcasting rights in the country. TSN, owned by Bell Media, has it on a regional basis.
On the Minnesota thing... The main metropolitan area in Minnesota is made up of two cites (twin cities) on different sides of the Mississippi river, Minneapolis and St Paul. There has always been a bit of a rivalry between the two. The teams want to draw from both cities and don't want to make the other city feel left out therefore they use Minnesota as it includes both cities, even though the Vikings, Twins, and T-Wolves are in Minneapolis and the Wild in St Paul. Incidentally this is also reason for the Twins name as it references the twin cities.
Same thing in the Tampa Bay area. There is no community called Tampa Bay. The two main cities, Tampa and St. Petersburg are about 20 miles apart and are separated by a portion of the Gulf of Mexico called Tampa Bay. The Lightning and Buccaneers play in Tampa and Tropicana Field, where the Rays play, is just west of Downtown St, Petersburg.
1:03 A little update on this one. At the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, the Arizona Coyotes are set to be evicted from Gila River Arena. There has been an effort to build a new arena in Tempe, but nothing has made it off the ground on that part as of yet. Also, the NHL seems to have been reluctant to return to Quebec after the departure of the Nordiques in 1995, despite the opening of the 18,200 seat Videotron Centre in 2015. For the time being, that arena is being used by the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts.
Speaking of the QMJHL, it would be nice to see a mini series on the different arenas in each of the leagues the make up the CHL, the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL.
14:47 Speaking of hockey arenas and opera houses, the original arena the Pittsburgh Penguins was originally built to be one, but it was abandoned by the local symphony and turned into a hockey arena. It was used by a minor league team before the Penguins moved in.
i went to a pens game in 2011 at at the then consol energy center, the igloo was right beside the new arena on mario lemiux way, and was just being prepped to be torn down glad i got to see it in real life before it went
Winnipeg's arena was actually built for minor league hockey (it originally hosted the Manitoba Moose until they left, then in 2011 the Jets moved in and then in 2015 the Moose came back as Winnipeg's AHL affiliate)
Fun fact about all three of Pittsburgh's major sports franchises. The Steelers Penguins and the pirates. They all three share the same color scheme. Some people don't think about right off. But I believe they are the only city in America that has that.
That is the case. The black and gold colors (let's be honest, it's more yellow than gold) was at some point adopted by all the three teams, the Pens being the last in January 1980.
And on the other side of the state you have the only city where all four major sports teams are in the same area (being from Dallas we hate Philly, but I give them props for that idea, maybe Arlington will get the Stars and Mavericks some day).
New York have the Mets, Islanders and Knicks who share orange and blue. Washington have the Nationals, Capitals and Wizards who share red and navy blue.
My Dad and I are on a Mission to visit all the Arenas someday! We're huge Rangers fans, so we would like to follow the Rangers on the road! So far we've been to 18 out of the 32 Arenas! Arizona Coyotes- Gila River Arena Boston Bruins- TD North Garden Buffalo Sabres- Keybank Center Calgary Flames- Scotiabank Saddledome Carolina Hurricanes- PNC Arena Colorado Avalanche- Pepsi Center Dallas Stars- American Airlines Center Detroit Red Wings- Little Caesars Arena Edmonton Oilers- Rogers Place Florida Panthers- BB&T Center Minnesota Wild- Xcel Energy Center Montreal Canadiens- Bell Centre Nashville Predators- Bridgestone Arena New York Rangers- Madison Square Garden Philadelphia Flyers- Wells Fargo Center St. Louis Blues- Enterprise Center Tampa Bay Lightning- Amailie Arena Washington Capitals- Capitol One Arena
@@wilderac2250 No idea. The Suns owner has already refused to share even on a temporary basis. The ASU hockey arena is too small. The only viable option is the old Memorial Coliseum, the Suns former arena. I wouldn't be shocked if they decided to say "Fuck it" and move to Houston instead. Makes more sense now that they're in the Central Division
I vote for Houston …. Largest metropolitan without an NHL team, arena capable of hosting and NHL team and an instant rivalry with Dallas. Also they were one of six markets left of the WHA when then NHL absorbed only four!
It would be funny to watch him be surprised that one of the arenas where Slap Shot was filmed at is now named after a hospital (yes that's actually true. Upstate Medical Arena, AKA the Onondaga County War Memorial, was one of the film sites for the original Slap Shot movie in 1977. It was also the home of the 1955 NBA champion Syracuse Nationals, now known as the Philadelphia 76ers. And is also the current home of the AHL's Syracuse Crunch.)
This is for the Australian commentator for this. Idea. Rogers Place and Rogers Arena are both named after one of Canada’s largest television providers, Rogers Communication, owned by the family of the late Ted Rogers. The company also owns MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays and their home park, Rogers Centre, formerly known as SkyDome
When i went on a school trip to Ottawa, we passed by the Canadian Tire Centre and it was hilarious because we were just driving through nothing for hours, then all of a sudden, BOOM, NHL arena.
The PNC Areana in Raleigh, NC has been proven to be the loudest in the NHL! Great arena for all. MSG holds a speacial place in my heart as I grew up a Ranger fan. However I grew up on Long Island so I probably saw more games and shows at the Nassua Mosolium. I have played hockey in some of these arenas but mostly played in the old arenas that these replaced. Great video.
There is no reason to hide your sub count. You make very interesting and very educational videos. Nothing to hide. 10 subs or 10Million subs your vids are great man
I've seen a lot of these types of videos and this one is probably the best. I'm impressed with all the research and unique information presented for every arena. Great job by an aussie on Canada's sport!
For TD Garden, the three buildings are actually part of a huge renovation that actually connect to the arena (they’re not separate). I’ve seen tons of pictures of them over a few years, and I still really love it because of all the features and ways they constructed it. I’m from Chelmsford, Massachusetts which is close to Boston which is the best 4-team American sports city so far with 38 titles (the New York City teams have 37), and your channel needs many more subs, because it’s amazing 😊 And, yes, I think the whole arena looks a whole lot better because of these renovations 👍🔥 P.S: TD Garden now has a new scoreboard called “Hub Vision”
@@djn2005 Do you mean Long Island/Brooklyn area? I’m separating the two areas, because there is a difference, and I said 4-TEAM SPORTS CITY, not like 8 or 9
Yes those teams count towards NYC titles. For that matter New England isn’t near Boston yet that’s counts towards the Boston total. I think it’s fair that Long Island, Brooklyn and even the NJ teams count towards NYC as well.
at some of them I had a feeling like: oh, this parking lot has also arena! It looks so strange. To have arena built above rail or metro station or incorporated into city traffic plan make much more sense than built a several square miles of parking area.
Im a Philadelphia flyers guy and despise NY rangers but respect them. We lost the spectrum over a decade ago. MSG arena must be preserved. There aren't many more stadiums around that hold history like the garden does. Joe Louis arena gone, yankee Stadium gone, Veterans stadium gone, the spectrum gone.. So much history gone. And yes I know the horror stories about them and their structural integrity issues but I would of much rather tried anything possible to keep them around instead of demolishing years of history. I love MSG and there is so much history there. I hope she sticks around.
The reason the saddledome looks so small is that there is a third seating level on each side, but it's hidden from most angles due to the curve of the roof
long time hockey fan...old now but once traveled to many arenas....the new ones are impressive but I miss Chicago Stadium(organ pipes in the roof) the Igloo, Met center, Joe Louis, Capital Centre, Hartford Civic Arena, and the Forum in Montreal(don't speak a word of French but all announcements were in both languages WOW) and my old hangout the Brendan Byrne Arena(the Devils were lousy but fought hard)....rarely sold out(except for Rangers games)..... BUT solid crowds memories THANKS for the videos...
It's decent, but not top notch anymore. It has been surpassed by many arena's in the league, but what would you expect from a 25 year old arena at this point?
Regarding Enterprise Center, the opera house was there decades prior to the arena. While it's now called the Stifel Theater, its orignal name was the Kiel Opera House... hence why the arena, when it opened and for the first five or six years, was called Kiel Center. The old Kiel Arena was part of the opera house complex until it was torn down in the early 90s to make way for the new arena.
Nashville’s bowl is set up with those asymmetrical end zone seats since most concert stages are built at one end of the bowl (the Bud Light Fan Zone end in the picture). The other end has 3 tiers of seating as a result so they can maximize the number of people able to watch a concert. Also as another fun fact, it was originally built to be a basketball arena, so there’s no proper press box like other NHL arenas since basketball media normally sit down near the court. They had to retrofit seating for the press in the upper levels but it basically puts them amongst the fans in the 300 level.
You missed possibly the coolest part of the xcel energy center which is the concourse. In it there is a jersey from every high school hockey team in the state of Minnesota. Also the team stores are all designed with wooden logs for the exterior giving off a log cabin like feel
8:31 The skyscrapers there are called les tours des Canadiens which means Candiens towers in English. The organization built them there so like that you could have access to the arena.
2:32 It was originally known as the Olympic Saddledome because it was used for both hockey and figure skating during the 1988 Winter Olympics. The saddle shape makes sense, considering the city is home to the annual Calgary Stampede.
TWWoS - Loved this one. Keep'em coming. I suggest American High School Football Stadiums. International viewers would get a kick out of how much money and how large some are.
Little Ceasars Arena is definitely a step up from the old Joe Louis Arena in the looks and amenities department. I went to a few games at LCA and always had a blast. The Joe though... magical hole in the wall filled with many great memories. If I could suggest another NHL Arena video is to highlight each Arena nhl team/franchise have played in. Could be a longish video but there are some great old barns to look at and behold.
Also since you are the stadium channel, check out some US college hockey arenas. Yost ice Arena is amazing and I'm particular to the Berry Events Center in Marquette. There's quite a few very unique hockey arenas in NCAA division 1.
Enterprise Center was built on the site of Kiel Auditorium, an arena attached to the opera house which shared a stage. It originally was called Kiel Center before selling out to naming rights. The auditorium was home to the NBA's St. Louis Hawks before they moved to Atlanta. Another event at the old Kiel was the Veiled Prophets Ball, where a prominent local businessman was crowned in an elaborate ceremony before being paraded through the city in a Mardi Gras-style spectacle.
I love MSG. The seats are all great and it's a great atmosphere. The only real issue is the ticket prices. Ever since the renovation back in 2014 (I think that year) the tickets have become practically unaffordable for a non rivalry game. Other than that access to the arena is easy from the Island. Train from Ronkonkoma and your there in about two hours and you just walk up a few stairs and you are already inside.
The seats are definitely not all great. You don't want to be above row 12ish in the 200 level or the stupid bridge blocks your entire view of the scoreboard. They put in video boards that face the crowd but you lose a ton of atmosphere and feel like you are outside the arena when you are behind the bridges.
I really like your videos man it's there's knowledge along this too so it's very cool especially overseas European awesome not a big fan of the NBA and I am an American NBA in China not a big fan of but love your work
Gotta admit... I'm super hyped for UBS Arena. My fondest sports memories with my dad are a) seeing Ralph Wilson Stadium from the inside while passing through Buffalo in '98 (thanks to an understanding groundskeeper that August morning), b) sitting in the bleachers at old Yankee Stadium watching the Yanks demolish the Rays in '03, and c) every damn time we made it to the Barn to watch the Islanders, though a time in the late 90's where we watched the Islanders beat the Jets 1-0 stands out. Because the game was stupidly boring (the only score was a fluke shot from the center line from someone on the 4th line :P) but we were in the front of the upper deck with the _most_ enthusiastic drunken fans ever so it balanced out. Gonna miss that crazy building, even if they do keep it open for special events (they might not), but I like how they're trying to make UBS 'the Barn But Better'.
I always have fun look. In Japan, there is almost no NCAA news, so it's very educational. There is a request! Please take up the NASCAR and NHRA circuit. I expected to have. From Tokyo🇯🇵
I would love to go to playoff games at the Bell Centre and the Madhouse. They seem to have the best atmosphere for playoff hockey. Pretty sure the cost is too high for me, but a guy can dream.
The Canadian tire center is in the middle of nowhere compared to downtown, but it is in the middle of Kanata, one of the main districts of Ottawa, which has a very large percent of the total population. Ottawa is just a very very spread out city so it looks like its in the middle of nowhere
Amalie Arena also has an outdoor party deck on the upper concourse. This being Florida, hockey season is actually the best time of year to use it, too. And the Tesla coils (yes, plural) don't operate at a high enough voltage to hit spectators. (I know, it was a joke, but...still.)
Philadelphia - The Union has played a few friendlies in the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field, but their own Subaru Park is in nearby Chester, Delaware County.
Just went to the Climate Pledge arena. It was really cool they did a great job renovating that arena also it is by the space needle however it's about a mile from the freeway getting out of there wasn't fun.
