Artturi Lehkonen scored on a rebound just 1:19 into overtime as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 to advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2001.
@@CaptainBooch -- When they picked up Lehkonen, Sakic said he wouldn't have given up the prospects he did for a rental. So I think they've probably already worked out some kind of deal. That said, you never know until the ink is on the contract.
Let's just admit there will be never a again a time where a Canadian hockey team will ever win a cup again. Hate to say it as I am Canadian. But it is the unfortunate truth. Having the raptors win the NBA championship is the only thing I will remember as real win for Canadians. I dearly hope I am wrong. 🤦♂️😞☹
@@adrianjporter5295 don’t let the emotions get the better of you. It will happen. There are not only over 30 teams in the NHL, but there are a lot of teams of great players that can literally make it all the way. Just depends on matchups and how they play on that day
There was an interview where Puljujärvi said they try to keep the puck in the offensive zone so they don't have to defense. That pretty much sums up the Oilers' strategy.
I don't want to hear any Oilers fans complain after this one. You had two, two goal leads and simply just choked. Avs were the better team overall, Makar was a superstar tonight, and Lehkonen with the clutch OT goal to send his team to the finals.
From a Oilers fan I agree 100%. Still proud of them making it this far honestly. Good luck to the Avs next round I hope they win they deserve it so far no doubt
@@monkeydluffy2941 The Oilers played hard every game. Chapeau especially to Draisaitl. I imagine his injury report will be grimace-inducing. His play tonight was inspiring to this Avs fan.
As an oilers fan I will complain because woodcroft should have challenged that one goal. We were going to lose no mater what but that should have been no goal
@@jogopatrolpoggers5143 -- Which "one goal"? If you're talking about the last one, the league reviewed it and rule it wasn't a high stick. It's an automatic review in OT for playoff games, so no need for a challenge.
Everything The avalanche did to acquire lehkonen was definitely worth him hitting the overtime shot for the cup final again. Let's hop he gets the cup this time.
Can we have him back please will give you baron and your 2nd round pick with a bouquet of flowers and a bag of pucks ; and a were sorry note to arturies
@@jacksonbarry5407 Sure Baron is a great prospect and may really succeed in the NHL, but Lehkonen has 11 points in 14 games so far... If they win the cup, it's a steal already.
@@mb2neat621 His grammar is correct because he switched to a pointed and instructional statement clearly aimed at Mackinnon.... so go back downstairs to Mom's basement and go to bed
The best part of watching these highlights is seeing how excited Edmonton players and their fans were after each goal, all the while, I knew they were all going to get their hearts ripped out in the end. Loved it! The look on their faces after CO won in OT was priceless!
Indeed. the empty seats in this and the last game tells you who was smart enough not to get caught on camera with the $200 McJesus jersey, and $16 beer in hand supporting this pathetic old boys club team.
Hats off to Draisaitl for giving every ounce of energy and courage he had to finish out that game. Major respect. That’s a true teammate. Let’s go Avs!!
That’s probably the best thing he did tonight is not play or the Avs would of had 10 mins worth of power plays bc of him lol. He is still a cancer and the oilers would be stupid to bring him back idc how many goals he scored
Edmonton needs a team defense emphasis like Barry Trotz brought to the Islanders when he tookover. The Isles were last in the league in defense when he took over and have been a top defensive team for his entire tenure. Oilers team defense - not necessarily the personnel - but the team defensive schematic is not Cup ready. The issue needs top priority and 100% full commitment. They cannot hold leads against top teams. Personnel don't seem to know how to play to keep leads.
The Oilers just made it into the final four and islanders placed where? Islanders have won how many more cups in his entire tenure? You'd think a top defensive team would finish a little closer to the top. No?
I’m a flames fan (hear me out), It didn’t matter who won the battle of Alberta, both teams were getting swept and the better team won both rounds. 1 - The Colorado avalanche are scary good and better every year. 2 - I have to say, mike smith has the worst positioning of any goalie in the league, I can say that being a flames fan. Just look at the score of every game since the playoffs began, he let in 4 goals a game on average, which truly shows how much heart the first two lines of Edmonton showed. 3 - The defensive core of Edmonton made bush league mistakes at least for 3 massive scoring chances a game. Even though Kassian scored a crucial goal tonight, imagine what you could have with a young, strong defender in his place. His style of play is being outlasted overall. The worst part is you could put him on waivers and no one will pick him up. It’s a hard truth but I think it’s time to get really serious with the structure of this team because they are really explosive. Don’t hang your heads Edmonton, you guys are for real - for sure!
valid take very respectful and even if the flames got past the result would’ve been the same, the only way i could say colorado wouldn’t win in 4 is if calgary was playing at their absolute best all around
Also a flames fan! And I agree said it from the start whoever plays Colorado is gonna get swept from our Alberta teams just really wanted flames to send oilers golfing it would have been a win in my eyes Even sutter said before the playoffs started if we play Colorado it will be a waste of 8 days
Lets goooo Lehky!! When he got traded to the Avs i automatically started to root for them to win the cup! Lehky is a gem and we're gonna miss him 😔. Still happy that he's with my favorite team from the west. Go Avs go!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Smith didn't lose this series. The AVS won the series. Beat the Oilers in every aspect of the game, every game. Go find the best goalie in the league next year and prove me right. Just glad they finished in 4 so they couldn't injure any more players.
Nobody has an answer for the Colorado Avalanche. The Av’s just grind you down but they’re not waiting for mistakes. They create mistakes and make you pay for it. And if the Eastern Conference team thinks they’re just gonna be able to turtle in the defensive zone for a 2-1 game, it’s not gonna work well for them.
The avs gave up a combined 11 goals in just 2/4 games against the oilers. I wouldn’t say also only allowing a combined 2 in the other two games makes up for it. Also the panthers were a more productive offense than Colorado this season and got swept by Tampa. Whoever comes out of the East will be pretty encouraged facing an opponent with Swiss cheese defense. That being said, I actually want Colorado to win, but I have difficulty believing in their defense. The west might not have had an answer, but the East very well could.
I see a lot of hate for Smith. Yeah he made mistakes but their defence was just horrible. Look at the OT goal. Where the f*** are they? He had about 6 feet of open ice to bat that rebound in
1st goal (really good shot full screen) NOT SMITH FAULT 2nd goal (deflected by ceci into his own net) original trajectory mike smith save NOT SMITH FAULT 3rd goal (mike smith clears puck, hit ref the jumps up onto boards where smith is trying to clear puck [???], hits ref, unlucky bounce of him straight to Avs D, scramble in front of net) NOT SMITH FAULT 4th goal (I mean come on, great shot, high speed, it’s mackinnon with a quick release blaster like what do you expect) KINDA NOT SMITH FAULT 5th goal (idk even know, confused on why it wasn’t 4 on 4 instead of avs power play since avs guys were taking out #10 too, good shot too) NOT REALLY SMITHS FAULT 6th goal (Personally thought high stick, Avs fan but like mike smith since I myself am a goaltender and he’s amazing to watch, he made the first save regardless, oilers defense in another country on this play) NOT SMITHS FAULT The second goal adds on to the 4/7 goals in games 2 and 3 (empty net doesn’t count) which were deflection goals.
It's always funny watching Mike Smith wave his arms and blame everyone but himself. Like the Avs third goal. What are you doing way out of your net!? And you turn it over and it leads to a goal. Tend to the goal there and they don't score
One off the ref and one off a high stick. I think that’s fair to be angry about. Smith really isn’t a Stanley cup goalie anymore, but he sure does give it his best shot.
Pictured at 7:30 - Ken Holland's masterful acquisition of Duncan Keith. All of us Detroit fans are sorry for you (as sorry as a fanbase can be when we're currently in the gutter.) Ditch Ken Holland for your own good.
Agreed. GM Holland destroyed the Red Wings but Yzerman will get them back on track. Doesn't anyone in Edmonton (talking about the Oilers organization) read the news. Holland was promoted to get rid of his role as a GM in Detroit
LOL Gretzky at the 2nd intermission was saying "Colorado should just put in Darcy Kuemper and get him warmed up for game 5." Immediately I laughed...what on earth made anyone think that a 2 goal lead in THIS SERIES was a guaranteed win. LET'S GO AVS!!!
Two sweeps this post season for Colorado. An incredible feat no doubt, regardless of the opponent. Good luck in the finals and I’m confident my Rangers will meet you there. 👏
sorry NYR TAMPA too good you just haven't seen them yet because as usual they sleep a bit wake up play and win its like guaranteed cup hate them like detroit of 90s when they want to win they do it brute force shut down D with amazing offensive tactics and colorado will win a few look good till they play again but alas ... avalanche will need to get huge guys next year to have a chance against the giants
@@glenstephen7234 Tampa is missing Point, and it shows. Losing that 3rd line last year really hurt their depth. They're still great but honestly they didn't deserve to win round 1, Vasi just turned it on for 3 out of 7 games, which was enough to push them over.
I loved seeing those oiler fans have their smug "we have McDavid" smiles wiped clean off their faces for two straight home games. I completely agree, it is glorious.
@@Sayakawill Colorado was formerly the Quebec Nordiques - they sucked in Canada and were traded off just after rebuilding from years in last place grabbing all the best draft picks, well, the ones willing to even play there. Lindros didnt lol
@@FrankBullitt390 just one player refused to play for them. Things like this happened, it happened to Toronto Rsptors as well. Some American players are simply assholes and refuse to play for teams that willing to pay them
The best thing about this game was the Oilers teasing their fans by opening up a two goal lead, twice, and then those fans having to watch as the Avs disembowelled the home team. The moans and groans from Rogers were a delight.
I don't like the Avs, but I appreciate them giving Kane the middle finger by beating his team in their arena. They're the only team left that I'm okay with winning the Stanley Cup.
Didn't expect oilers to make it this far the Avs are the better team I'm glad they are moving onto the cup especially makar since he got drafted from my hometowns team
Give credit to the Oilers; they made it this far. Beating Calgary was phenomenal. They got through the Cup semis - much respect and I'm not even a fan. Better than those Pretentious Leafs
Wouldn't it be a kick in the head if Kadri wins the cup. He'll join the ranks of Kessel, Carl Gunnarsson and Tyler Bozak. He can lord it over the Leafs, who will never win another Cup in this lifetime.
Kadri really is a great 2C, he cleaned his game up this year and is major contributing factor in the Avalanche's success so far this season. I'd like to see him win it just because i'm grateful to him as a fan for all the hard work and great play he's put into this season.
That was the TNT broadcast. It made me laugh. Actually the entire pregame, intermission and post game talks from Gretz made me laugh. He tried so hard to hype up the oilers all series. Only giving the avs and makar their dues once the series was complete.
Perer Forsberg did 15points with a crushed spleen and on one healthy foot in an hockey era that had the toughest physical play yet in NHL, so Draisitl no legend just yet
Lmao. More like Makar. Mackinnon isn't in the conversation. It's McDavid vs Makar for best player in the world right now. Mackinnon is the best at slew footing and kneeing and diving 3 times a period and getting away with it.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 Makar won the Conn Smythe, so I am correct. Did you enjoy your loss to Seattle? Landeskog injured. Avs are a shell of a team now. You will never make it to the final with Mack and Makar again mark my words and cope with them. You might not win a series with them again either lol.
@@ronnietrek6376 some of the losses would have not bugged me. But losing a game where the puck was clearly going in. Accidently hit the skate because another player( cody ceci) pushed him bugs me. Im not saying we would have won the series and came back it just hurts a little that is how we got taken out.
Wow the Avs were toying with the Oilers . They weren’t playing 100 percent yet they destroyed this scrappy Canadian club. Good luck Colorado. I want an Avs vs Rangers final . McKinnon vs Shartsterkin. - Gary.
@@peterpike oH pLeAsE, game 1 Makar was BEYOND offside, oilers should’ve won 6-5. Avs we’re constantly slashing Draisaitl’s legs that we’re already injured. Mike Smith is just terrible. I seldom if ever watch hockey (i.e., I'm a Panthers fan), but I can't understand how this guy is a major league GK. He plays like he dropped his glasses.
What a disgusting display by the Soilers. I havent seen that much diving since the 2011 Casucks. It looked like a bloody SOCCER MATCH out there. If you KNOW you can't win, or are just out matched, or know you can't score 5\5, just TAKE IT.. Your PATHETIC displays of diving to get on the powerplay are vomit inducing.
@@timyumichuck9262 Lmao. Mackinnon flopping 3 times in a row in the first period of game 2. Slew foots Draisaitl in game 3. Knees Hyman in game 4. And how about Landeskog? Every time an Oiler bumps him he dives on the ice with his hands on his face and then is up 30 seconds later giving up on the theatrics. He threw Kassian head first into the boards after sticking his stick in front of him in game 4 and then cries on the ice for 30 seconds after landing on his wrist because of his own classless stupidity. You Avs fans are delusional garbage. Hope you lose, and if you win you are still garbage. Karma will get bitchkinnon and Landeskog you watch
The last play was terribly unfortunate. If Smith DOES NOT make the initial save (i.e., the puck goes directly into the net), the goal is waived b/c it was tipped above the crossbar. But since he made the save off the tipped shot, play continues b/c contact was below the shoulders. Game over.
Calgary will be ok. They have the same problem Edmonton has. No defense and goaltending is shaky. I think if they at least address defense they can make another run.
I would say the Avs are on their way to a Stanley Cup (Go Avs) They are playing incredible hockey, they do not lose their cool. Great game guys, you make me proud.
Hey, Sportsnet. Thanks for posting these. May I suggest regularly including the replay of a penalty call which results in a goal on the ensuing PP / PK. It may add to the story of the game within a game. Thanks. 🤘🏻

4:48 this save by Francois is so under rated. Goal here ends the game, possibly shifts the series. Frankie shut the door on the best player in the world. MASSIVE stop if you consider the butterfly effect
Almost every single edm game highlights has a clip that starts with "and Smith turns the puck over!" Lol. No wonder he feels the need to chop opposing players knees with his stick. Good job Avs
Turns the puck over and then gets mad at the ref for being in the way. Very Mike Smith move. He's the one playing the puck way out of his crease, yet finds a way to blame someone else for his mistakes.
Definetely proud to be an Oilers fan. We lost to a great team but we played hard and improved in all aspects. Everyone stepped up. Mcleod, Hyman, Archibald, Yamamoto, everyone. It wasn't just McDavid, Draisaital, Kane. Well done boys. Excited for next year.
Don’t be silly. Tampa and NY are no walk in the park. Vaisilesky and Shisterken aren’t going to give up such soft goals like Smith did. I have Colorado vs NY in my bracket with Colorado winning in 6.
Mike Smith and couple defenders: Nurse and Cesi are liable for most of the goals in Oilers net during past 4 games)) Hyman should play with McDavid and Draisaitl. Good luck Oilers next season !😀
Bruins fan so I haven't watched Edmonton all year, but I've watched all the highlights of this series. Smith reminds me so much of Rask. Makes some huge saves then lets in goals that any other goalie would save. Is he someone Oiler fans are frustrated with?
So frustrated. Lol he's always gold for a back breaking softy. Fantastic or a hot mess. Makes you wonder what could be done with a consistently average goalie. Lol
