Artemi Panerin had the game-winning goal and Mika Zibanejad tallied three points as the New York Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime to clinch their first-round series.
As a pens fan I've been blessed with many relevant seasons in my lifetime so rather than complain about blowing the series in epic fashion I'm going to tip my hat to the Rangers. Well done NY, get after it and make a run with this group!
Was a tough series. Not sure how far they’ll go but the second round is a confidence booster for the young guys. Shesterkin getting his first taste of the playoffs. Carolina will be tough. Gg and series.
@@russellny8086 ya I tip my cap to Igor. After chasing him in back to back games, for him to come back and give his team a chance to win later in the series shows some resilience
I guess you didn't watch game 7 with the Lightning, Panthers or Flames. Those were GAMES :) Especially last night Flames/Stars game. Stars Goalie was UNREAL. Can't remember the last time I saw a goalie play like that and I am 67 years old and they now credit him with 67 saves :)
This was a series for the ages. Some of the best hockey I’ve seen in years. The best of the playoffs. The best of the NHL. The best of the game of hockey anywhere.
@@theofficialtoast3885 Jarry has an .855 save % and a 4.00 GAA in his last 5 play off games and managed to win one of them.. lol.. Biggest choke goalie in the NHL. Useless
@@That90sShow He played great last night after being off a month, Igor was chased to the bench 2 games in a row! Not a good start chief! He looks like he will be taking the new choker reigns!
@@patientmental875 the guy that just won 3 straight elimination games is a choker to you? Did you even think of how stupid that sounded before you said it?
"much tougher opponent than i expected them to be", Pens was the better team by far seen over 7 games, And is the better team overall period, you guys would have been destroyed if it werent for us having our 3rd goalie.
For the Pens, the time to go all in was game 6, but they didn't. Rangers took advantage of every chance they were given, so full credit. The one thing I don't understand is why Panerin and Zubenajad were not targeted. They have heads too which can be hit with elbows or shoulders. The Rangers used this strategy effectively on Pittsburgh.
Easily one of the best playoff series I've seen in recent memory. Even as one of the best comeback teams in the league this year, that kind of play isn't sustainable in the playoffs, at least not against Carolina. Still, I have to be proud of my boys in blue for never giving up
Can't feel sorry for PENS. They had a 3 to 1 lead and could not win 1 game in the last 3. That's pretty sad. I think the Rangers will give the Canes a difficult time. Look how the Canes could have been out of the playoffs already. The Bruins missed wide open goals, hit the post several times in that last game. Canes won't make it to the finals.
Congrats and good luck. Hope we can good sportsmanship in the second round. It's impossible to even try with B's fans. But you guys don't have King of the rats, Brad Marchand on your roster so I'm sure it will be tolerable. B
@@reclaimamerica9527 I didn't see much of the canes Bruins series, but from what I'm hearing, it was closer than it should have been. And while it's no rat, you guys might be sick of trouba or reaves before the series is over. Should be a good one though. Good luck
Between this game, and game 7 between the flames and stars, im absolutely blown away at how close of a round this was. Seriously some of the best hockey i have seen in my life
@@chrispraz5198 Hurricanes went 7 too as did almost all the first round series been one hell of a playoffs, so I think they should be good... going to be a battle!!! Let’s Ggooo
The tension in game 7 of the 1994 Eastern conference finals, against NJ, as overtime began back then was worse! 7 seconds from victory, leading 1-0, when Valepukin stuffed it by Richter to lead to that epic conclusion.
Pleasently surprised at the respect and kind words from the Pens fans. As a die hard Ranger fan, thank you. Penguins are a really good team and tougher than I thought. Mutual respect from this NYR fan
Respect from a die hard Rangers fan. Everyone was writing off the Pens going into the series, but they have too much experience to disregard like that. I'm sure changes will be coming, but they should still be relevant for while. Crosby, Guentzel, and Rodrigues gave the Rangers fits and made Shesterkin look mortal. Great series. Could've went either way.
@@robcrilley592 yea much respect , really cane down to taking care of the puck with a one goal lead and marino turned it over mika put It in the net and it was over from there. Hope you guys make a run
3-1 series lead, 2-0 leads in game 5 and 6, 3-2 3rd period lead in game 7. This is one of the most embarrassing single season choke jobs I’ve ever seen.
@@user-xg6sx5ev9u lets not act like Pittsburgh didn’t blow 2 separate 2 goal leads in consecutive games and rushed a clearly not ready Jarry to the net. Crosby going down hurt, but this was about the best Pittsburgh would be and it wasn’t enough to finish the job.
As a wings fan, I was watching this series because out of all the first round match ups, this one featured the best old time rivals. So glad it went to a game 7 OT.
Good series. This New York team impressed me this year. Even though they eliminated my penguins, I think I’ll be cheering for the rangers the rest of the playoffs..
@@biffdanielson2820 def matter did u not watch Florida this year and even Vegas when they put hill in changed there playoffs, Colorado was just so stacked offensively it ain’t matter
What a comeback from the Rangers. I would love to see my Panthers against this team, the best offense versus the best defense. The two teams with the most comeback wins. That would be a wild conference finals!
just like 2014 This is broadway and this is for the 2014 NYR team and for henrik, Igor will win a cup for them and this is a new ERA LGR! Well done pittsburgh hell of a series!
Pens had a 3-1 series lead, and they blew it. What a series, congratulations to the NY Rangers. If this is it for the Penguins, it was a hell of a run. 3 Stanley cups, can't complain!
watching this game in August...im still biting my nails, nervous, and my heart is pounding. This game was absolutely incredible and exactly what I dream of a game 7 looking like...LETS GO RANGERS!!!
As a die hard rangers fan, I’m obviously super pumped but Hurricanes are a better team than us. All about momentum In playoffs though, anything can happen, especially in hockey
@@nickk2639 the Rangers simply need to do what they did against the Pens if they're struggling with the Canes, have Trouba concuss out their best players.
Why the NHL did not choose Panarin for the drаft? Why did Chicago reject him? Because he is tiny? Maybe he worse that McDavid and Kucherov in getting points. But he is one of the greatest and smart asisstants ever. We saw it in the KHL. Sorry for my russian mistakes guys, not good in english.
I cannot believe it!! they are amazing!!! please can you accept me as a new york rangers fan?? Man this is truly magical and electric ... the stuff champions are made of!! I mean... the whole series was pitt. attacking and nyc comeback.!!
Rebuild we happy to hit the second round house money now. A few years we’ll have more experience. Half the teams young and Shesterkin first playoff experience.
That goal was an amazing play but 100% a high stick.. hockey gods got it right even the refs didn't. Was a great series and a great game by both teams, looking forward to more great playoff hockey in round 2! Battle of Florida, Battle of Alberta, Carolina New York, and another sweep for Colorado 😅 Gonna be a great 2 weeks of hockey 😁
Yes pens had all the coach challenge call in their favor.. the kakko goal was good as seen on avs scoring same goal vs the preds and that was high sticks. Rangers won so people forgot, but the officiating was awful
Based on the playoff history between these 2 teams, if they meet again and it plays out the same way, they should just start saying "after 4 games, the Rangers lead the series 1-3". 😅
Not part of this montage was the great rush by K'Andre Miller to draw the penalty in OT. That set the stage for the game winner. It was a hell of a play.
Just as well I didn't watch this - it would have broke my heart. Better to find out later. Up here in Canada - instead of Game 7 - the CBC aired "the Junos", featuring celebrities no one has even heard of west of Ontario.
The nightmares of 2014 have reared their ugly heads for the Penguins. I'm convinced that the team was broken when the Capitals defeated Pittsburgh in 2018.
this isn't 2014. The Penguins were about to close out this series and then the Rangers went dirty on em with Trouba's hit on Crosby. If you can intentionally concuss your opponent's best player(s) and get away with it, then I don't think any team can really stop the Rangers.
Please. Stop making excuses. No concussion, no brutal dirty hit to the head, waaaa 😭. He missed ONE game. Oh and PS. You lost with your starting goalie. Just stop … it’s embarrassing …
As a Ranger fan I wasn't too confident going into the series because while they were evenly matched Pittsburgh had a major edge in veteran experience. They even outplayed the Rangers for a sight majority of the series. Great series win for a young an growing Rangers team.
Yeah, that’s it for the Pens. With early exits the last few years, they may have waited too long to get some real return for their stars. They move Malkin (36), and/or Crosby (35) and/or Letang (35), problem is not only are they all well past prime but also all now injury prone as they have a lot of miles on them (no shade). Crosby is still decent but is injured a lot. It will be interesting to see who gets moved and what they get. Crosby may stick around and retire a Penguin like Mario did in a couple years.
Interesting thoughts. As the face of the franchise and at his age, I don’t see Sid retiring anywhere else. He is a phenomenal player but age is showing after years of injuries. The game is evolving and though he is still competitive, there is a lot of young fast talent in the league now. As for Malkin and Letang, as much as I’m sure they’d love to keep “the core” together, it is time to recruit new talent to stay relevant to todays game. The organization needs to let go and make off season moves away from these two.
@@Gaffneydaniel92 Yeah, I’m not a big Crosby guy tbh but have a lot of respect for his talent. I always thought it was a bit lame when Gretzky played for the Blues and Rangers. Same as Jordan with the Washington Wizards. As a fan of the game, I would Like to see Sid and Ovi retire with their respective teams, however it would seem that Ovi still has a bit more left in the tank as he has stayed pretty injury free throughout his career. Given Crosby’s concussion history, I think it would be good for him to hang it up in a couple years. He has 3 cups and lots of other brass, stellar career, no point in sticking around when he is 38 or 39 to become a 3rd line centre. Just my 2 cents.
