Adrian Kempe scored a pair of third period goals and Cam Talbot turned aside 29 of 30 shots as the Los Angeles Kings rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1.
Two huge comeback wins for the Kings this weekend. They've now won 3 straight, and 4 of the 5 games they've played since the coaching change. It's nice to finally see some heart from this team again, and to see them string together some wins. I remember last season, it was the first game after the All Star Break, and the Penguins were playing the Kings in L.A, and it was Dustin Brown's number retirement night. Kempe scored 4 unanswered goals en route to a 6-0 final that night. Today, Kempe scored two unanswered goals late in the third, to give the Kings the 2-1 victory over the Penguins on Jaromir Jagr's number retirement night. I don't know why, but Kempe seems to love scoring when a number is being raised into the rafters. 😅 Go Kings Go!

Now you can't ask Letang and Karls to be on the same line. They are both extremely good, and inherently unpredictable. Karlson has to have more freedom to keel the game unpredictable, otherwise why is he there? And when Eric takes the play, doesn't matter WHO you are, you buy in, don't care if it's Sid or Gino, you guys drop back and take your proper backup spots. On occasion. Picking up Karls is just wasted money if you can't use his skill set.
Crosby is the only player doing anything on Penguins. We need a change. We need depth and fresh new legs. I love malkin but unfortunately he isn’t what he was. He has one point in the last five games. We need some speed on this team.
Well, he was behind Malkin getting signed again for all those $$$$$ and that money could have gone to get a couple of younger players for the FUTURE of the team. Crosby only has 1 year left in his contract. He won't do a trade. He may even retire. The new GM like the old GM'S is what has destroyed this team. They keep hiring FIRED GM'S. It's time for a rebuild and they should have started this past season after not making the playoffs, yet they sign Carlson for big $$$$ again instead of getting a couple of future players.
You can tell the Kings have a different game play now. Instead of the dump-and-chase, theyre doing an entry-zone possession and its working better for tbe younger players
Karls isn't being asked to do the right thing all season. You have to let him take more responsibility to carry or make that pass. He's not absolute prime but if you let him do his thing with a little less predictable set plays, you will get a better result.

It all depends what the situation on the ice is. For example, Kempe was looking for Gavrikov to make the pass to but the Pens D was at the position where that pass would have to be absolutely perfect even as Gavrikov was is superb finishing position. Si Kempe chose to shoot it as he caught the goalie cheating a little to buy time in case the pass was going through to Gavi. Sometimes you've got to be selfish, sometimes you pretend to be selfish. It's all to make the goalie and the D guess about what you're going to do, especially when you have a sniper having a puck and great offensive D working either as decoy or finisher. Jagr is looking at it from his perspective because he was the best shooter of his era. He could hide his release so we'll that even when the goalie knew he's gonna shoot, he had no idea when. Jagr was a very unique power forward who could score from impossible plays and situations because of his ice awareness and superb body strength in comparison with other players. In other words, what used to work for Jagr, doesn't necessarily work today. The goalies are way better, they have quicker reaction times, they're much more athletic, and many more players can be very precise with their aims than in the past. The game itself is also much faster than in Jags era. BTW, the retiring his jersey ceremony was really touching affair. I don't usually watch these things but as his countryman, I was really interested how it's going to go. It was a beautiful celebration of a player and his accomplishments with the organization. My hats down.
What the heck was Smith thinking on that second goal?? He was in a great position to skate back and play defence.. instead he pinches and gives up an easy 2 on 1 The stupidity abounds smh
Penguins are going through the same thing that the red wings went through, slow decline and need of a rebuild. No fan should complain about winning championships and then the team going bad. Have to give something to get something.
A win is a win, but some of the shots in the first period looked to have no creativity or ingenuity to them. Moore, Dubious and quite a few others, where they had puck possession right in front of goal for several seconds, but just fired directly at the centre of the goalie. It's almost as if they ran out of ideas when approaching the goal. Big congrats to Jaromir dropping the Jagr F-Bombs! My favourite aperitif.
Penguins need to consider a new person to coach the power play. The zone entries are super predictable which led to the short handed goal and the players barely shoot the puck.

As a Kings fan I fear the Penguins are where the sharks were a few seasons ago….need to embrace the rebuild. Also, as a Kings fan, I think we need to embrace the rebuild too. A 37 yo top center can’t compete with the best centers in the west.
Struggling to get into the playoffs. We face a goalie who lost 10 straight on a night honoring Jager, at home. What happens? We lose giving up a shortie! Why do I expect different? Pathetic.
pens announcers are homers for sure ! I was there for jagrs number being retired which was great but pens goalie jarry gave up 2 bad goals late that lost them the game ! announcers were making excuses for the goals .
The NHL needs to do something about the nets. When the puck goes in the net they should stay in the net. What’s the point of having pucks go in and out in a split second?
This game does not warrant a 10 minute highlight reel. Most don't...Bring back the 5 min videos. They don't show big hits, fights, or anything interesting.

Things are looking up for the Kings. They won back-to-back road games. On Saturday, February 17, 2024 they defeated Boooston 5-4 in OT. Kings are getting closer to the Soilers in the Standings.
