Oh for sure. Just like the Kyrou play to Thomas. Not a lot of goalies can react in time to that switchback behind the net pass.. This next Gen of NHL er's are insane good.
Good game, nice back and forth battle at least on the scoreboard, but I think the better team won in the end. Congrats to Lil' Jegren on his first career goal, from what I saw it looked like he gained a ton of confidence, hope he can carry that forward.
@@giantfactory to be fair tho, having Tarasenko out of the lineup is hardly uncommon. Still, happy Leafs come out with a win considering how shaky they were on the road trip
@@wandregisel6385 He's healthy and having a really good season. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Leaf's win, I'm just quibbling cause I don't think that win was a clear indication of which is the "better team." But hats off to the Leafs, they made the Blues pay for their gaffes tonight.
That tackle / blatant hold on liljiegrin that lead to the Thomas goal was so ridiculous. What a God damn joke. You gotta call that penalty man whats wrong with you. You can't miss obvious calls so bs. Glad we won but the reffing is just shambolic.
Agreed, but if it's not being called do it back. Don't be afraid to get chippy. This shits gunna run rampant in the playoffs. Time to prepare for it during games that don't matter so much.
Blues defense lost them this game imo. They were just terrible in their own zone. Turnovers in the D zone and they look like they’re on the PK at even strength.
This bothers me everytime I see it. Yes the Leafs have the largest fan base in the league but I still wouldn't call them Canada's team, maybe Ontario's. Lol.
Last time leafs lost more than 1 game in a row was December 5th against the jets. Last time they had a losing streak was all the way back in October. If we look at the 2 losses in a row in December we find out one was an OT loss. Basically what I’m trying to say is the last time the Leafs went multiple games without a point was at the beginning of the season.
@@denisshall9884 lol your English is pretty good! No it’s just funny when he gets mad, ge acts childish…swings his stuck at peoples heads…try’s to fight everyone on the ice…. Haha😂 too funny
@@niagarajoe4402 Ahahaha! I remember this! He wanted to cut off Kadri's head! And for some reason "offended" by Dubnyk. You are right, it was fun! 😄 But not for SL fans! ))
Canada's team is going out in round one again if this is how they play against a team depleted of their starters, playing with kids. Not a good showing for Toronto.
I know people generally hate excuses, especially reffing, but the ref was RIGHT THERE and called nothing on that? I know the Leafs got the majority of the power players but they deserved even more. Don’t get me wrong, defensively they did not play well, but this was textbook home team reffing at its finest.
@@highplainersonmobile7399 dude you can stfu and take a seat, Matthews has literally draw 1 penalty at 5on5 all year, Rocket winner and top 5 player in the NHL but apparently people defend him extremely cleanly, Leafs have more possession time then any other team in the league yet consistently are bottom of the league in Penalties drawn.
@@Cfp-sx2vs unless theres a penalty i'm not sure of, I don't think Matthews has drawn a single penalty all season, i remember this being a pretty big talking point back at the start of December and ever since then, i haven't seen him draw one
Stan Mikkola was in every part of this game. Several areas where he was a factor. Trash talked bunting leading to the stupid 4 on 4, then scored later in the game. I thought it was hilarious that the Matthews goal went off of him. Karma if you ask me. This was a fun game (at times), and for once the leafs actually didn’t throw in the towel after blowing a lead, if only they did that all the time the maybe things would be different.
@@aliceliska … he also said that the Blues goals were all scored with great skill and Leafs goals were ALL average. So, basically even with your input, exactly as I interpreted it. Sadly biased comments in the outlook of a true hockey fan… or actually possibly a fan of “the Russian three”?
This has become a cool little exchange from my Birthday. Happy Birthday Northergurl!!! I appreciate it, and I did for 15 seconds consider wearing my Leafs sweater. Haha. Thanks
@@RandomGuyCDN I love how that's your excuse. It's s crappy one, the refs clearly weren't calling many of the Blues clear penalties and the Leafs still won. The players the replaced the so called 'top players' aren't exactly garbage players, they are NHL players. The Blues played a good game, it was the goalie that was the problem for St. Louis and the defense for the Leafs. Both teams, although different conferences, are both doing well this season. I'm not upset about the refs because, although they missed a number of clear penalties on the Blues, this seems to be the norm in the league these days and usually it goes in favor of the home team. Not always but usually. Both teams played well. It's been one of the better, closer games, right done to the buzzer.
@@itsallovernow2929 Blues didnt have 2 of the top 4 scorers on the team and arguably their best dman, plus 2 heart and soul players in perron and schenn. Id say thats a good excuse. Leafs are out in the first round.
@@spankeyguitars8457 ohhhh you meant top of all time goals😅 I love Matthews but he won't be near Ovie or Gretzky numbers. I hope he proves me wrong some how.
Half the blues team is out on protocol. Who actually thought they would destroy anybody? The fact it was a one goal game shows how deep the blues are and how exposed the leafs will be come playoff time.
@@booker9816 did you not see a Leaf get basically hugged down by the Blue then the guy punches him as he skates off? There was no call on that... the commentators even mentioned that there should have been a call there. And nevermind just this game. Jack Campbell gets absolutely trampled... no call. Matthews is being pulled by Dubois around and thrown to the ground... yes there was a penalty but Matthews got a matching penalty because he tried to shove him off?
Oh man what a weird nail-biter for me, for sure... see the Leafs are my 2nd favorite team behind StL, oddly enough, so when the Blues are out of contention then I go to my Leafs! BUT, I worry a bit about them, these Leafs need to start controlling play with a lead! Plus, they shouldn't have had this hard of a time against a team without 5! of their best players. Losing big leads like that is gonna burn them if they do not tighten that up closer we get to the playoffs! They have time though! Let's GOOO!!!
I’m just gonna go ahead and say it. Binnington needs to play better. He has played average at best since the 18-19 Stanley Cup run. This blues team is elite this year and although goalies Charlie Lindgren and Ville Husso have a smaller sample size. The numbers are immensely better and they’ve played equally as challenging opponents this season. Binnington: 11-8-3 / 3.05 GAA / .906 SV% Husso: 5-2-1 / 2.13 GAA / .935 SV% Lindgren: 5-0-0 / 1.22 GAA / .958 SV%
I’m gonna say the Kyrou-Liljegren thing wasn’t called because the refs were providing a makeup no-call for the blues. I remember distinctly the refs making a call and the whole stadium, even Berube, were upset with the call. I can’t remember if it was before this though.
Binner has got to stay upright more. Think about those great goalies who stand up. Sure, there were excepions yet they were quick enough to bounce back up ala Tony Esposito spread eagle or Ryan Miller. League has figured him out on high glove. Leafs are an old school team that shoulda coulda won a Cup long time ago. They remind me of Blues who finally did.
Как вам русские горки? Качели? Не матч а аттракцион! Великолепное нападение у обеих команд, ещё бы защиту с вратарями. Тарасенко заиграет блюзмены вне конкуренции будут.
Thank god leafs won but that goal by Thomas shouldn’t have counted. That blues player grabbed the leaf d guy with his hand on the arm and dragged him down in front of the ref.
I don’t understand why during the broadcast they made a big deal about ORielly vs Matthews…(sure Orielly scored 2 goals tn, but it was his 7th and 8th haha) ORielly isn’t anywhere near Matthews in any aspect of the game……
@@anthonyfaccaro7118 no need….Oreilly will never be considered anywhere near the player Matthews is and will be….as much as it pains me to even say this, even if he never wins a cup, he will be considered one of the best to ever play the game…period….ORielly? Not so much…..Dan Marino….zero Super Bowls…still considered one of the best qbs in nfl history
All the time talk about this Marner. One thing he did right tonight. Then the rest of the game he was only ok Nobody talk about Engvall and his two assist and he always dangerous and hitting bodys everywhere.
Honestly, I think people have it backwards. The Leafs were easily the better team and if Campbell wasn't having an off night it would have been a rout. They were unlucky in that it came down to a favourable bounce at the end
Niko perkele, niitä syy'ään niitä kiekkoja! Jos et blokkaa, niin tuu eestä pois! "Niko, if you're not gonna block the shots, please duck." (Paraphrased)
Gave it to the leafs. Even while missing Perron, Terasenko, Buchnevich, Payrako, and Schenn, it took Binnington's lack of focus to give it away. Leafs have some serious firepower, but still are likely to get dropped in round one of the playoffs.
Shouldn't have been 5-5 in the first place, that was a penalty 5 seconds before Blues tied it that likely would have led the leafs in a more comfortable direction to close out the game but since they were playing against the refs too, they had to just do it themselves.
I'd hardly evaluate the Leafs championship chances by this road trip, they were pretty awful overall. Every team has its bad stretches, and sometimes you gotta try to pull through even when the flow is against you, which they did (by the skin of their teeth)
@@wandregisel6385 I can't disagree with this, but I still don't see anything that's going to get the leafs past TB, Carolina or FL, just not well rounded enough as a team. They can score, but that's it.
@@1hourloops926 still, playing a Blues team with too many call ups from Springfield. Should have dominated the blues tonight, after AZ embarrassment the night before. Have to send messages when playing good teams, no matter if that team is missing guys or not, like STL. Leafs got the win, that's huge, but not very convincingly.
@@tomgilson9180 Every team has been playing with missing players. Leafs literally just got Marner back, and had a few other players just get out of protocol a game or 2 ago. They lost to AZ playing a back to back with Mrazek playing his 3rd or 4th game since october. And they still dominated them, they just got outscored. Games like that are bound to happen, and they are playing quite poorly right now.
Agreed, and as a Blues fan, not so much unfair. Just a normal non-call to makeup for the previous non-call. They dig themselves into holes that make other non-call look absolutely horrible. But what would you rather watch, a game where there are 20 penalties, or teams actually fighting it out and competing. You start calling everything and people will stop watching because of how many breaks in action there are. Hockey is great because of the pace of game and excitement around plays despite penalties against them. You can almost call something on every sequence if you look close enough. Which makes me believe some games are actually fixed because of what is actually called. It is a tough balancing act that will never be fair for everyone.
Gonna say it again. What games are the refs watching for Blues? Were they told by the NHL not to call penalties against them? A takedown that results in a goal for them... hmm...
