I've loved and played this game since it was released. I knew they had secret characters... never knew you can use other players on other teams. So cool. Can't wait to use Stevens, Recchi, Coffey and Robitaille on the Penguins with Lemieux and Jagr!!
When this was in the arcades up in Toronto, you had lots of people watching you play, and as a result there was added pressure for you to perform if you ever picked Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clatk, and especially Wayne Gretzky. I remember some random dude looked at me so seriously when i picked Gretzky and he told me, "You better win." And so i did! 😅 It still blows my mind how sacred Wayne Gretzky was to the hockey fans here in Toronto. Though I wonder if someone has modded the game to have today's Leafs like Auston Matthews. I'd enjoy that.
The worst team is the Senators since they only have two players. Alexi Yashin was supposed to be the third but I think he was in a contract dispute at the time so they cut him at the last minute. He can be used with the MAME cheat though since all his assets are still in the game.
Played Hockey in NW suburbs of IL right when this game was released they put one in the rink, I was 10 and the goalie on our team said oh I am in that game, we all called BS. He put in his initials and BDay and holy shit there he was. We were all literally stunned, but he later mentioned his uncle developed the game.
If you are going by just numbers, Open Ice had more secret characters than both vanilla NBA Jam and Tournament Edition. Not sure if they wanted MK characters at all but it's mostly comprised of people who worked on the game.
@@fantasticvoyage262 Acclaim added a bunch of celebrities and what not in the home versions though Midway had little to do with those and ended up losing the rights to the name.
The source code is available online and all the goalies have the same stats: Speed: 11 Stopping: 6 Cornering: 3 Shooting: 3 Passing: 3 Faceoff: 1 Puck Handling: 6 Checking: 3
