Nabokov (6th here) will always be my number 1. Playoff, overtime , full power one-timer... No crawling or stick save... Just the greatest glove save ever made. Absolute insanity.
@@egone61 I have a huge amount of respect for Hank! I think (and wish) he should have won a cup... Just like Curtis should have won a cup. Both class acts and great people over all. Couple of beaut's!
As a goalie, my only rule for these type of videos is that Caron is #1. His save against Philly is objectively the most incredible save I have seen in my life so far. Everything after that is debatable, well done video
The Stars - Sharks 4 OT game 6 back in '08 was one of the greatest games of hockey I've ever watched from a goal-tending perspective. What a joy it was to watch that live, getting more than 2 full games of hockey with one spectacular save after another from Nabokov and Turco (especially when he like jumped in the air for that flying pad save, if memory serves). I was 17 and stayed up until like 2am *warm fuzzy feelings of nostalgia*. ...I wonder how much pizza the teams consumed in total that night. As for this video, the clips are not in an order that makes sense (in my opinion). Great video nonetheless, thanks!
Tim Thomas??? As a Bruins fan I am appalled!!! 🤣 Some of these weren't even saves! 7 out of these 10 should have made this list! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S-Zl3G6db3Q.html
I know it's tough to get them all, but two of the greatest of all time, St. Patrick and Martin Brodeur should be represented. They made their share of "impossible" saves in clutch situations.
I'm a huge Pens fan but Fleury’s save was not that amazing. It was good but not like these other ones. It was important cause of the game, that's about it.
@@Hangar-zu8xg I was thinking the same thing, all his clips are him getting baited out of the net and having to hurry back making some lucky diving swatting save.
Alan Vochinsky I’m gonna disagree with that, his first save, he was definitely out of position, but the other two featured in this video I would say we’re unlucky bounces or quick passes that he just couldn’t react fast enough for. No goalie can take a shot off his pad and move five feet to the right to take another shot in a split second. If he had more time, then I would say that he was out of position. And on his third one, how are you supposed to react to a puck hitting you in the chest, and going upwards into the goal while you’re at the top of your crease? Your best hope would be to jump back and try to make some kind of miraculous save. Which is what he did. Please make sure you know what is actually happening before you type a comment like this one
Not the greatest highlight reel saves, nothing like Hasek. He holds many records, most shutouts, games played, most goals, tied record with Ron Hextall for goals in the playoffs. Not the best saver of all-time though, even though he had some great ones, I wouldn’t put any of them top 20. If it was top 30 there would be 2 of his in there if I made the list. This video of best saves was all made by him/her, and is opinionated. Can’t do anything about it, so why does it matter if he’s in it or not? At least 80% of hockey fans have heard of Martin Brodeur’s name.
There are hundreds of thousands of saves to chose from, of course people are going to disagree on which ones made it onto the list. I thought it was a great compilation, ignoring in which order they were shown. The only criticism I've got is I don't understand why the first save by Fleury was picked, there's got to be a gazillion saves that are better than that one even if it did mean the title for the Penguins. The headline was "Top 20 Goalie saves of all time", though, so it had no business there. My favorite would be Hasek's last one. Absolutely insane.
At least the karate kick one, look under Jonathan Quick Save Of The Year. I mean after the fans got to see it on the jumbotron he got a standing O. How often do you see that?
The Jake Allen one around the 7:30 mark is in the net. Paused at 7:35, the only part of the glove not behind the goal line is the wrist protector, and the puck is even further back in the webbing.
Well the thing is that if he didn’t make that save then they would’ve gone to over time and the red wings could’ve beat them and I’m not being biased im literally a panthers fan haha
Figures the top two are against my Flyers. :( If only we could find a goalie capable of these saves... Personally, the Hasek save (#2) should be #1. Remember seeing that live and my jaw dropped!!! Hell, Hasek could fill up all 20 spots truthfully. He was unbelievable!!!!
Brian Ewing, when you factor in the fact that Sebastien Caron was a backup goalie that barely played his entire career in the NHL, I think he wins this list by a mile. Still, it is amazing to see a legendary play unfold live.
One quest where in fucksville is a henrick lundqvuist save? I can name 2. 1. Against the devils in 2010-2012 and against the blue jackets where he dove and made it
General Robert Wolf dang it pains me that so many good saves were left off the list. It was soo tough trying to figure out which ones I thought were the best. I agree that those were very good saves though.
Ken Dryden pulled one off against the Blackhawks in the '71 Finals. Jim Pappin had a wide open net, but Dryden flashed out his right pad along the ice and robbed him. Pappin even had his stick in the air. Habs won the Cup, Dryden won the Conn Smythe, and the next year won Rookie of the Year. He'd only played in 6 games during the '71 regular season. He won the Cup again in '73, '76, '77, '78, and '79, then retired.
I used to have Dominick hasek, brian Boucher, curtis joseph, mike richter and Patrick Roy action figures with a net on a small piece of ice (plastic) when I was younger I was a defenseman but have an immense respect for goalies.
Rockie coin collecting it really should be, I never even thought of that save. It was really tough figuring out what saves to put on this list, I tried to put some lesser known ones.
Agree with the bias towards fleury. Don't know if either one happened before you made this but andrei vasalevsky behind the back save. And yes I'm bias! Hahaha.
Pretty sure I remember Patrick Roy throwing his stick across the net once. I believe he had one off the knob of his stick. Also a few sweeps off the line. How is Roy not on here?
The best goalies say that they don't want to be on highlight reels, because usually those are desperation saves that come from mistakes and being out of position.
The penalty shot save Mike Richter made against Pavel Bure in 1994. That is the greatest save I’ve ever seen, and I grew up practically worshipping Dominik Hasek.
Totally a great video, but I'm kinda shocked that Ed Belfour, Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur(hope I spelled that right) were not on this video. Second video of those 3 would be killer.
Little Pittsburgh bias is a major understatement. Don’t get me wrong some great saves but I knew EASILY the creator of this video was a burgh fan before looking.
Well your probably right but at that time I was only 4 so I don’t remember. Roy was one of if not the greatest goalie of all time so I thought Timmy Thomas was really special cause it was unexpected.
Good collection here but I'd like to cite a couple going back a long time. One was Mike Palmateer against the Islanders (I think) in the late 1970s. It was a playoff game and when the Islander started to take his shot, Palmateer was behind the net. Somehow her was able to get to the side of the net and twist his body around to get in front of the puck. Another would have been in the early 70s when the Canadians upset the Bruins (Orr/Esposito era) in the playoffs behind their rookie goalie Ken Dryden. I remember twice during the series the Bruins had thought they'd scored (raised their sticks, slowed down etc.) only to have it turn out that Dryden had the puck. It pained me because I was cheering for the Bruins. Not sure how much film is available from those days.
rick jeanneret, a real treasure. Search for his best calls video or along those lines. "May Day" is a classic, Lafontaine on Christmas is creative or him going nuts when Campbell hit rj umberger into last season in the playoffs in OT. He's great
Well, you got #1 right, it's pretty much agreed upon. You also might want to label it best saves since 2010 because there's nothing old in here. Check out half the saves Rick Tabaracci made in the 90-91 season for Winnipeg, they're in the Rock em Sock em hockey for that year too. Also no Roy or Brodeur? Give your head a shake.
I give you credit for making this vid Bobby T. I would never do it because I know the comment section would be 95% "Where's this save?" or "Where's (insert goalie name)??" which it pretty much is
Where's the Turco windmill skate save?!!!! Greatest save I've seen. It was in the same game as the Nabokov save. That goalie duel was insane in 08. 3OT Game 6.
