Regarding poverty and not affording healthy food, an Asda tuna salad is alot cheaper than a Big Mac meal or Donner Kebab.

Why would taxpayers foot the bill for overweight men…they are the ones who let the weight pile on (unless they had a valid medical condition)….and people complain the government are not putting the money to essential infrastructures…like homeless…the underprivileged and those who need proper healthcare…it’s very sad that looking after your weight comes down to the incentive of money….that is a bribe…loose weight and you get paid…completely unnecessary.

The idea I think is that we are already paying more than £400 to treat the average obese patient, so investing into this type of prevention might be cheaper for the NHS and the taxpayer long term, whether it works is very questionable though. Imo the money would be better invested into other things that they mentioned, like mental health/chronic pain support to reduce the root causes for some patients.

Making the £400 payable to a charity may be a greater incentive in the longer term for men and women, or a tiered donation scheme - the more weight loss = the greater reward.
