Oh gosh BBC, you make me cry. My, now belated dad and I stopped to look at this together in the late winter in 1992 passing through the land to reach my destination. He sat with me on a bench for a few minutes and said to me "This might be the last time you see this before it's gone. I can't see paying for water when it's free to look at". It was just the most amazing and massive snow and ice natural display I ever saw in person! I can't watch it. I'll cry too hard. My dad 1920-2000. I try hard not to bawl more tears. It was one of the most precious moments I ever had with my dad. Thank you *so* much for posting this. Love from Michigan USA
Niagara Falls, Canadian side, is usually pretty busy. However, after a couple of really cold winter days and nights, head to the falls after dark. Fewer people is the first benefit but more so; the mist will have had a chance to accumulate and freeze on all the hand rails and lamp posts and pretty much everything. You end up with a most remarkable show as mist, ice, light, and the roar of the falls engage in a sensory winter dance. Screw summer, come in winter; truly awe inspiring. (This is not a paid advertisement for Tourism Canada.) 🙂
Me and my husband saw it frozen last February. It was quite beautiful, and the Casino nearby has excellent food. It's definitely a trip everyone should take.
I always find it interesting to see how much people want to come to Niagara Falls, I mean I see it pretty much everyday, so in a way I never got that amazement from seeing it for the first time
So why don't fish freeze to death? Fish produce antifreeze which they harvest from the protein in their food. It keeps the blood circulating essentially.
I live close and I've seen the falls dozens of times and I admit that the falls are overrated but again that's because I'm so used to them. I can understand however that it's really amazing for a non-local.
It's amazing fridged cold right now. 1900 last frize over. But i friend is coming here u can see the under eater still flowing but too lay r is frozen over. Amazing though to see it.
There are 3 Falls - American, Bridal Veil and Horseshoe. From a tourism perspective the Canadian side is far superior and offers the best views / vantage points along with numerous attractions, parks, wineries etc. Plus the Canadian based Hornblower tour boats are modern / larger than the older American Maid of the Mist vessels. Just sayin.
Thats a place where you could experience iced water spray. Dont believe it when the locals say that it isnt cold, especially when you come from the tropic or US West Coast.
How does the New York Electric Authority make sure that the water continuously flow? Do they have giant heaters making sure that the ice never forms on the river?
I made the same comment to the BBC, why are you not showing the Canadian site even though is the most beautiful site. I thought we Canadians as a British Colony we would rank a little higher than the Americans but also the Canadian site of Niagara Falls are always considered the most beautiful. BBC you dropped the mike on that one.
Why are Canada, North America Russia and central Europe seeing increased cold weather? Simples... As Siberia slides up to the geographic north, the huge land mass accumulates more snow and ice and ultimately icebergs, the intense cold is leaking south. As the sea between Greenland and Siberia moves south, the north is losing the benefit of a 'warmer' area which used to help increase the overall temperature in the geographic north pole.
Did anyone see the BBC's breakfast show this morning ?? 🤔..when DAN Walker pointed out the strange cabbage smell in the studio ?? ...I felt this was a little offensive to his co host LOUISE MUNCHIN ! , someone needs to inform Dan that sometimes when lady's pass a certain age they sometimes give of unfamiliar scents !! It happened to my great great grandma !! ..Its part of the menopause / mid - late life problems of life !...I think Mrs muchin covered her obvious embarrassment really well !! To be honest ? Let's hope there's no gaffs like this in the future . ? 🤔
