Only the inner Engine Covers are actually engines I think. If it would have 6 actual engines it could make a ballistic start :) Telling myself now: Read before you write. It has 6 Engines. Only the outer 4 are weaker.

Landing surface has nothing to do with it. The whole approach was just poorly executed, with very litle actual control over the plane... Elevator inputs not smooth and forward thinking enough to achieve a constant sinkrate, that led to an initial "first impact" with way to much vertical speed. combine that with too much airspeed at that point as well, leading to the plane bouncing back into the air, and after that no pitch control/adjusting at all , resulting an even harder second impact.... would have happened on a perfectly smooth runway as well.
