This town holds a very dear place in my heart. My grandparents of Fiji came to Canada in the 70s and began their lives here. My grandfather and dad worked their entire lives at the paper mill when it was called Norske Canada and Pacifica Papers. It was booming at one point. That mill is completely shut down and dead now, in fact, the entire heritage area feels like a ghost town, its a shadow of what it was and its sad. So many memories of huge family/friend gatherings that just dont seem to happen like they did back in the day. Im in Nanaimo now, its a strange feeling driving past all the houses of friends and family we grew up with, that are now passed away or long since moved away. I'll never stop coming to PR, my parents live here, my uncle lives here. If I ever somehow get the oppurtunity to buy a home, you can bet itll be Powell River. You can't beat the quiet peaceful country life here.

Looking good Powell River. ❤️ I graduated from Max Cameron in 1981. Moved away and I haven’t been back for a long,long time. The roads are in such great shape. Time to come and visit again soon.❤

This pulls strings on my heart. My folks lived here, both gone now, and I used to come over to good old Powell River on the little hopper plane from Vancouver airport and see them. I can almost smell the wood smoke from the back yards, and smell that fresh air. It still looks just the same and I hope it never changes. It will always stay with me just how nice it was. Thanks for the drive folks.

Born in PR in 1979, we moved away when I was a kid, but still remember that place like it was yesterday! We finally returned in 2014 to visit old friends, seeing the houses we grew up in, etc. It was like we never left. Thanks for sharing this video, we shall be returning again one day. greetings from Dieppe, NB

I worked at the mill there for a bit 20yrs ago. I will never forget that place. Beautiful country around there. So nice. Often in my thoughts. I saw something mysterious in the water one day … ill never know what it was. Dark, fast moving, and massive.
@PlumpTravelers
@PlumpTravelers 2 года назад
Sadly, they just announced the official closure of the mill just before Christmas.😢😢As for the "something mysterious", sealions and seals claimed some territory there. Haven't been there in a bit but they have been there for a while. I have a video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b9mlry0GPoo.html

@@PlumpTravelers thats awesome. Brings back memories. Im born & raised in Sask so it sure was a treat for me to be on the sunshine coast. From the land of flat bald prairies & gophers to ocean side. Your other video reminded me of lunch break… feeding my sandwich crusts to the sealions. Our temp work trailers lined the waters edge of the mill. I had no idea they were so big!!! So big!!! I was told they liked it there because of the warm cooling water discharged from the mill. And yes those old concrete ships from the world wars. Just baffled my mind.
@l3eaver
@l3eaver 2 года назад
@@PlumpTravelers i just checked google earth and the trailers are still there. Haha… also back then “Lund” was the end of the highway from what I remember. Appears to continue up the coast a aways now also. Ill speak to the massive thing i saw. Someone had said there was a cougar sighting that morning on the hill side where upper lake dumps into the ocean. That little inlet is marked as Powel River… ok so on lunch break i figured ide go out that area of the mill. We were told that pier area of the mill was out of bounds and not to go there. I went anyways just to watch the ocean scenery once and awhile to enjoy a couple cigarettes before getting back yo work. Typically ide be there looking out NW & West. This day i was looking straight North across that inlet(powellriver) at the hill side trying to get a glimpse of a cougar. I threw a couple golf ball size stones into the water in front of me after not seeing a cougar. Something got my attn down at the water. As i looked down at the water i wasnt sure what i saw. I thought i saw something moving westward. I Wasnt able to make out a shape. I tried to find an edge or outline of the shape but I couldn’t. It was HUGE !!!!! Dark very dark in color. My eyes scanned up/down maybe covering 15-20’ distance and i think it just blended into the dark ocean. So i never did decifer a shape. This happened quickly to, like i didn’t have much time to investigate before it was gone. I watched maybe 40-50’ of it pass by as it moved out to the wide open water. I recall getting an erie creepy feeling. I lit up one last smoke and continued to scann the water. How much of it passed by before i saw it physically!?!
