So I just absorbed what was left of the Niche Zero content on RU-vid and you're the last video I can find, also the most recent LOL I'm committing and just bought it before I even finish your video (been looking since you could still buy through Kickstarter 😂) I saw someone else talk about getting one of those Fellow Shimmy coffee sieve things to get rid of the extra fine fines to help clean up the grind and make better brews as you grind more coarsely. It's a relatively cheap and easy way to get a little bit of the fine powder and what I understand oftentimes is actually the silver skin from the exterior of the bean, that turns to the finest powder, which leaves the drying, unpleasant mouthfeel along with bitterness from the finest fines in courser brew methods such as French press. That little gem of shared experience actually pushed me back towards the Zero as I only want 1 quality grinder for everything!
For me fines is only a minor issue for filter coffee and not espresso. I wouldn't go to those levels personally but each to their own. Its a great grinder for sure.
Hello!. First of all, did your head just about explode with last week's announcement of the Niche Duo? Mine did. Second, while I agree it's an espresso-first grinder, I quite enjoy my V60 pour-overs too, but I'm grinding at setting 90 having done a full lap of the dial. Finally, have you tried the latest trick going around about using a WDT on the grounds while they're still in the dosing cup before transferring to the portafilter? Supposed to cut way down on static in the cup. (I never use water spray on the whole beans.) Good vid. I subscribed.
Thanks appreciated. I did indeed. Few videos out with testers who have had it for 6 months or so. Just the £800 that’s a sticking point for me but may invest in the future. Yes for filter I grind well off the dial too to reduce fines. I do WDT but I’m the portafilter with a collar on. WDT isn’t for static reduction more for distribution and evening out the grounds but I guess had that effect. RDT does a better job at reducing static for me.
My wife and I drink 2 different coffee types but I was hoping on buying 1 grinder for espresso. Would you find it ok to change back and forth to different setting?
Hype. The whole grinder mill (see what I did there) is hype. It’s retarded for thousands of people to covet these, to rush to sell their current grinder and spend twice as much on a new one, just because some ‘influencer’ has declared the new one “end game”. People sure can be lemmings
I agree but can see why some change. If something is working for you and you like the taste then great. I think often a grinder or machine is blamed when it may be bad coffee or just not your taste profile. Personally I have a flat burr grinder itch to scratch. I’m happy with the niche but want to see what flat burrs offer. I won’t though go and buy a p64 for example. Second hand or a sculptor at best as if I don’t like it can sell and not make a huge loss. RU-vid has unfortunately become some what of an advertising platform for many niches. I understand both sides, companies want to sell their latest product and content creators (especially if making a living) need to put buzz words in the titles to the clicks that pay the bills. Rock and a hard place springs to mind.
With both being very high end grinders I haven’t had the opportunity (and probably won’t) to try either. There are plenty of videos on YT of the 2 I’m sure. Neither would disappoint and I think it comes down to the coffee you drink (larger burrs for lighter roasts I think) and budget.
