The IBJJF ruleset, bracketing, and just the way that they run their tournaments was built for amateurs. I am saying that as an amateur 😄. Its fun to go compete at their tournaments and they charge appropriately as such (yes they are money grubbers). However there are obviously a lot of pros that compete there too. The problem becomes that the pros are not competing to entertain. They are simply looking to win at any cost (gaming the rules not playing the game). So its hard to make IBJJF this amazing entertainment spectacle when the IBJJF has little control over who competes based on entertainment value. Add to this the IBJJF is the biggest and most respected name in gi jiu-jitsu and the sport is stalled.
