I never realized just how much this guy is responsible for shaping the particular version/vision of trek that i love so much. his films are beautiful and thoughtful.
Gawd!!!! I wish Nicholas Meyers was doing Star Wars instead of J.J. This man is a tried and true artist in every sense of the word. Seriously intelligent person who understands how drama and art work and how to execute them.
Nicholas Meyers has never been given the credit due for bringing Star Trek back to life. Harve Bennett and Leonard Nimoy also deserve the same credit as well.
My favorite quote from Mr. Meyer on Star Trek II was after his wife had read the screenplay and he asked her what she thought about it. Her reply was, "it's nautical, but nice." rofl He laughs as he recounts this with a glint in his eye. Good stuff : )
I think we all can agree that Wrath of Khan was a kick ass Star Trek film capturing the true essence and the embodiment of Trek stories & characterizations as the TV show proved & Nicholas Meyer definitely kicked it up a notch theatrically. I've been following Nicholas Meyer since one of my favorite time travel movies Time After Time with Malcolm McDowell & David Warner which is kind of an ironic precursor to the Voyage Home.
JJ Abrams didn’t so much build on the foundation of Star Trek as he pulled up bricks from it and threw them at us. Oh, you like Spock‘s mother? Well, I’ll kill her! How’s that for emotional impact! So you like the planet Vulcan? OK, I’ll destroy it! There’s emotional impact for you! Kirk screaming “Khan!!!” and Spock dying are earned emotional moments. JJ having Spock scream “Khan!!!” and Kirk dying are not earned emotional moments, just bullet points on a list. Nicholas Meyers earned a respect for the story he made, JJ simply provided entertainment for 127 minutes.
