Heard this guy playing downtown while I was on my lunch hour. He sounded great and had lots of people stopping by, so I had to record some of it to share. Thanked him and got his name so I could put it on here.
Update: Nicholas passed away on May 27th. www.issaquahpre...

Lived with Nicholas for 8 months or so in Nashville. He showed up one morning with his wife and dog in a minivan, parked in the backyard and never left. Was a wild time, a wild man and a great musician. We shared many drinks, many laughs and long nights.. great we can still hear his music here. Cheers.

As a massive Lost Dog fan for, I don't know, like 4 (5?) years now, I've heard/learned so much about this man... and tonight, right now, is the first live recording I've heard of his. I'm not surprised by this performance at all. The song writer who moves me the most was moved the most by this. And that makes sense to me. So weird and random and maybe providence that I found this tonight, right now. Thank you for never Deleting your account or removing this video. I hope it's still here years from now and randomly pounds someone in the chest like it has for me tonight.

They hear it, alright. They just don`t listen. Many people die without ever learning to listen. They hear people talkin, they hear music, they hear their inner voices, they never listen. I wish this was only true for this aspect of awareness... The truth is, they don`t watch either, they see, they don`t feel either, they touch, or even worse only take, they don`t smell, they just breath, they don`t taste, they eat. Marinos A Yes, she is unfortunately his widow. Nichols was an exceptional, once in a lifetime talent and a troubled man. Sadly it seems that most genuine creativity and talent go hand in hand with mental illness, especially when it comes to art. I think a lot of people such as Nicholas... To them, pain is a muse. Pain is an inspiration. Sadly enough, it seems most of us can relate to sorrow, to feeling uncomfortable in our own skin, feelings of inadequacy and even thoughts of suicide. I'm just a random guy from West Virginia. I've never had the chance to meet these amazing people. I've never even been to a real concert. But the content of his amazing music, the songs of suffering, loss, the feeling of hopelessness surrounded by nothing but desolation and despair. This speaks to me in a way that most music just can't. They say you have to pay your dues to pay the blues. When you hear this man play, sing, pour his very heart and soul into his music... You can tell he paid his dues, many times over. Personally I don't have much to be thankful or happy about. Many here live very hard and short lives. Half of my old friends, good people, kind and caring and full of love, full of potential, so many of them are dead now. Drug addicts deserve compassion. People deserve access to mental health services so they don't turn to drugs in a misguided yet understandable attempt at self medication. So many beautiful souls, such as Nicholas here, they just slip through the cracks. Despite the fact that they have so much to offer, so much potential if someone had given them a chance or even just tried to help. The loss of Nicholas Ridout was a tragedy beyond all measure... And there are thousands of tragedies just like it happening every day in this country. If I could have one five minute conversation with the man, I don't know how I could even articulate the gratitude I have for him. His music helped me to veer away from a very dark path. To channel all of this anger and frustration and sorrow that I live with every day into something positive. I doubt I'm the only one. He has probably helped so many more people than he ever knew. The loss of Nicholas was a loss to the world. Thanks Nicholas. Thank you so much. If you would like to hear more of his amazing work, their album A Bottle A. Gun And A Troubled Mind is an absolute masterpiece, and you can hear so much of his influence in the Lost Dog Street Band as well. Please support both Shannon and these other incredibly talented young artists keeping this dying yet possibly most beautiful part of our culture alive. Nicholas, Shannon, Benjamin, Ashley Mae, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. You help countless, and incredibly awesome people, feel so much less alone in this world. Please never stop what you do. The music you create beautifies what can often be a very ugly cold world so much. Thank you.

Paul Wagoner it’s safe and needs a lot of love. He replaced the original pot with our 1940s tenor banjo pot. I’m hoping to take care of that project this next year and restore it to its natural glory as it was a gift from one of his closest friends and brother in law and a beautiful instrument. He learned claw hammer in three days while I was driving us from savannah back to the Seattle area in 2011 and it was rather insane to be in such close quarters with that racket haha! But extremely worth it as he was and is my favorite musician and songwriter I’ve ever encountered.
