Actually listened to this show and Nick was banned for 2 nights following that call to LBC. He was temporarily replaced by Paul Ross. I think he was fined a couple of grand too for calling that woman who answered the phone at LBC a "female dorrrg". Great broadcaster, superb show that I tuned in to most nights which was especially brilliant after the pub on Fridays!
Used to love listening to his show!!! In those days on Virgin it was a bit of a 'wild west' and Nick used to get away with lots of stuff, and so did some of his crazy callers.
Love listening to nick Abbott on LBC. I highly recommend a podcasts with him and Carol Mcgiffin, it's very funny. It's called what's your problem with nick and Carol.
@markc8956 well I'm more like Nick when I come to politics, but like Nick I find her funny. And although don't agree with her views I respect them, like we should in a civilised society. Or like we used to before we all went extreme in both directions
@@leenoble9761I'll see what I can do! I'd have even more if I hadn't recorded over some of them. But that's being a poor teenager for you. There was a moment in the mid 2000s when I didn't know what to do with all these tapes anymore and considered binning them. Happy I didn't.
@@MrPlannery Brilliant. Do any of your tapes have clips of when Nick did a talent show thing in '94 for callers who were musicians etc. Or that 'dating' thing when he asked callers to record a message of themselves on air.
@@therealrodhull1 Thanks for reminding me that I was going to look for my cassettes. I had a quick search but didn't do a deep dive. As for the 'dating' thing, 30 years down the line, I still remember it. Especially drunk William... "I can sing, I can dance, I can talk, I can walk, I can entertain. Anyone that looks at me...must get the most beautiful vision. Shall I keep going? My name is William...and I am lovely." I definitely have that. And the woman 'pleasuring' herself to the Nick's voice.
@@MrPlannery Brilliant 😅. I'll look forward to hearing them if you do upload any (I clicked your subscribe). I forgot about the woman pleasuring herself (...or maybe I didn't even hear it in the first place, but I can picture it, as he had so many callers of that nature)! But that drunk bloke you quoted, I vividly remember that hilarious , umm, speech! In fact, I'm not even sure he was drunk - just nuts?!
I remember listening to Nick on Luxembourg, similar to this, but the callers were quite a lot saucer. I can remember 2 calls in particular, one can let said he'd written a song called Sammy the squid, & the lyrics were "Sammy the squid", sung once. The other caller said "I love listening to your show, Nick". Nick thanked him, & the caller finished with "you're still a c**t though".
I’m afraid that’s all there is. I held onto it on cassette for over 20 years before I digitised it. Waited several more years (having shared it to one person) before posting it here.
@@departtmentthe way the comment was written made it sound like LBC is soon to be dead, as of today. Quotation marks were missing. I guess you aren’t educated in English. You on the other had are the idiot who didn’t realize they left nearly identical comments, twice. Moron
I listened to Nick on Virgin 1215 while doing my homework at school, he was fantastic. But he's not thinking of the future here is he? "James Fatboy Whale"... ouch. Pissing all over LBC when he'd be working there in a few years..... I imagine he wouldn't be too proud of this tape!
To be fair to him LBC had lost its franchise and did actually go off air for several years. I tried a couple of times to reach out to Nick to ask if he’d be okay with this, hence also waiting 20 years before I did anything with it, but on balance I think given the response it’s in the public interest and I seem to have been the only person who recorded that show and I didn’t want it lost to time.
@@leenoble9761 Yeah, it's public domain stuff, he broadcasted it to the country, he can't really complain that someone recorded it. I'm glad you kept the tape. I should go through my old cassettes in the attic. I'd forgotten how 'edgy' Nick was in those days. It's weird isn't it, Kenny Everett got sacked by the BBC in the 70s for a (pretty funny) quip about the Transport Minister's wife passing her driving test, and only 20 years later you have Nick calling a woman a bitch and making reference to PMT and suggesting that she basically needs a good shagging. Can you imagine any radio presenter saying that on-air today? lol..
