my father introduced me to Nick Cave's music when I was a kid. He passed away last year after a very difficult fight with acute leukemia. I played this song on his funeral.
Go son, go down to the water And see the women weeping there Then go up into the mountains The men, they are weeping too Father, why are all the women weeping? They are weeping for their men Then why are all the men there weeping? They are weeping back at them This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While all the men and women sleep This is a weeping song But I won't be weeping long Father, why are all the children weeping? They are merely crying son Oh, are they merely crying, father? Yes, true weeping is yet... to come This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While all the men and women sleep This is a weeping song But I won't be weeping long Oh father, tell me are you weeping? Your face seems wet to touch Oh, then I'm so sorry, father I never thought I hurt you so much This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While we rock ourselves to sleep This is a weeping song But I won't be weeping long But I won't be weeping long But I won't be weeping long But I won't be weeping long
Blixas face at about the 1:58 mark kills me! The face you make after getting shit faced in a boat with Nick cave only to sober up and find out its a cardboard box and cellophane waves! But hey Nick Cave was there too 😂
This song always remind me of 2013 and early 2014, when I was so depressed, I kept listening this song for days and days, couldn't sleep without it. Then everything went back to normal, I started listening other songs instead of repeating this one all day. Now it's 3 years later, I'm in uni right now, everything in my life is fine, but I'll always remember this song, how did it help me with my life, heartbreaking yet inspired at the same time.
Listening to this song when I'm depressed reminds me that sadness is meaningless and inconsequential, just like the rest of existence, and then I can smile at my misfortunes 👍🏻
I just watched a DVD in which they briefly talk about some of their songs and Nick Cave said that in The Weeping Song, he really likes the dancing because they look like "two old, gay business men at the disco".
THE WEEPING SONG Go son, go down to the water And see the women weeping there Then go up into the mountains The men, they are weeping too Father, why are all the women weeping? They are weeping for their men Then why are all the men there weeping? They are weeping back at them This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While all the men and women sleep This is a weeping song But I won’t be weeping long Father, why are all the children weeping? They are merely crying son O, are they merely crying, father? Yes, true weeping is yet to come This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While all the little children sleep This is a weeping song But I won’t be weeping long O father, tell me, are you weeping? Your face seems wet to touch O then I’m so sorry, father I never thought I hurt you so much This is a weeping song A song in which to weep While we rock ourselves to sleep This is a weeping song But I won’t be weeping long No, I won’t be weeping long No, I won’t be weeping long No, I won’t be weeping long
Was randomly listening to Nick Cave and Birthday Party songs this evening, then this one came up and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I lost my dad to prostate cancer on July 25th 2023. I wasn't the easiest son to raise or deal with, but damn he loved me no matter what. I'm just glad I was able to tell him that I loved him before it happened. Not everyone gets to do that. But damn this song stings. I miss him so much.
I’m sorry for your loss. If you haven’t already I highly recommend diving into Caves more recent albums. He wrote them after he lost his son and they really helped me grieve. ❤
@@MrRUKnight Lou Reed is cool but I'd have to rank him below the other guys because Lou Reed always seemed to put too much effort into being cool and everybody knows that trying to be cool just isn't cool. Plus the whole pretentious NYC thing going on. Still pretty cool though. For the category of excellence in the effortless zen of coolness, I'd also nominate Iggy Pop, Kim Deal, and Tom Petty not necessarily in that order. I haven't quite worked out all the kinks in my Unified Theory of Coolness yet.
I like this clip because you can totally tell that there had fun doing it. Especially Nick who seems on the edge of laughter at a few moments. It's always funny to notice the discrepancy between the depth and darkness of his lyrics and the real life Nick Cave.
Yeah, you can tell they really had fun making this video, but then again Nick Cave is awesome like that. By the way... does anyone know who the other guy is?
The one and only Blixa, band member from beginning up until about 1999. Saw Nick through some of his best albums. 💙 Blixa. All of the bad seeds in fact are incredible musicians in their own right. Mick Harvey, Conway savage, Blixa, Martyn Casey, Warren Ellis. Amazing ppl he surrounded himself with.
If your are strong enough in your mind and willing to experience new depths of sound and darkness try Blixa Bargeld's band called "Einstuerzende Neubauten".
Most bizarre , low budget video - spot I've ever seen . And it beats all other top production videos . Surrealistic , expressive and unique . As the song is
I was really young when I heard this song, about 9 or 10 years old. Every time I hear it, I remember one afternoon, in my home village, where the setting sun was shedding its final light on some abandoned houses, making the fading ochre on the walls glow.. the olive trees rustling in the breeze.a sweet and melancholic memory, one of the few I treasure from a troubled childhood. This song is its soundtrack.
FrakkinToaster Luvva either you don't know Blixa's nasel voice and thick German accent, in which case you are an idiot, or you are trolling RU-vid comments, in which case you are also an idiot.
@@SupBro-ww9go I was about to start a discussion on how Blixa's usual style of singing, monotone (as in a declamation manner) is an acquired taste, which I personally adore. But I get your point, when he sings in a traditional way, his voice is utterly melodic.
This is such a cheesy video (Great song, though!), but you gotta love how much fun they're having in it. In a later interview Nick commented on how he and Blixa looked like "two gay businessmen at a disco." Then he goes on to tell about how they originally planned to film the video in Greece, but that didn't work out, so they ended up filming the video in "more controlled circumstances." Makes you kinda fond of the video when you know the back story.
Ian Thompson it's cheesy as fuck lol, that's kind of one of the main themes of Cave's music, camp the lack of artistic development of music videos in the 90s doesn't help either
Помню школьные годы, по mtv показывали много интересного, но именнно эта пнсня меня зацепила. Записав ее на кпссету в 92 году, я слушаю ее третий десяток лет, и каждый раз до мурашек по коже.
My heart goes out to you and your family in the loss of your beloved son, Nick and Susie. I too, have a teenage son and upon hearing the news of Arthur's death, I went and hugged mine. We should all take the time to hug our loved ones just a little bit tighter, I know I will. Bless you Nick, may your family find peace.
This song brings up strange, confusing emotions. One moment, I just wanna weep uncontrollably at the misery of everything, the next, I wanna leap with joy and dance without a single worry in the world.

@@ardisyah5931you're right, there's unfortunately no (hyperbolic but emotive) space for lgbtq+ people in today's "religious, friendly" world you speak of. that's why it's so groundbreaking to see two lesbians on this boat ❤️

As fuckin' adorable as this is, Blixa and Nick goofing off in a fake boat getting drunk, I'm glad I never saw this video back then when it came out. I just heard the song, and it definitely reads differently just as a song.
@@ailithtwinning6806 I agree with you completely. But I wouldn't have known it back then, I was only 15 and didn't drink yet. I like seeing it later, after forming thoughts on it just listening.
This song saved my life in a way! It reminds me, that life is means struggle but its still worth to face it. I love music. I love this song. Love to everybody out there whos enjoying this deep and amazing song!
Some times ago I saw Nick Ca and the Bd Seeds live in Berlin, probably best concert I saw in my life..when this song started, for a little short time,i dreamed about Blixa coming on stage and singing with us all..
