Only heard this song today (missed out on Nick Drake when he was alive, somehow). Will have to get to grips with the tuning. Your version is beautiful, lovely guitar work.
MrPelicanPants, the point is that It looks that Dave has been "inspired" by Nick Drake in particular because of this song, Fly. When I listened this song for the first time I thought "this is David Gilmour".. But it is not the only one, when I listened "Black Eyed Dog" for the first time I thought "This is Eddie Vedder". And yes, excellent cover, but most his covers are equally great.
any way I could get your wonderful performance on MP3.....my transfer of this audio from this video didn't come out as well as I would have hoped. Great Work!!
Outstanding in all respects. There is a lot of good work out there on You Tube but so often it can fall a bit short on the vocals. You've nailed the vocals too. Congratulations. Top notch!
Just terrific; beautifully done! The harpsichord and some of the musical underpinnings are strangely reminiscent of some older British rock - maybe Stones "As Tears Go By" era. Do others agree or have a better fix on what songs these sound like?
Wow man, I really think this is one the best covers on anyone alive actually. You did everything perfect and probably better and that means a lot coming from me hahaha. But seriously, amazing job chap.
excellent i have a question: you have found music scores for that? if you did it all by ear i think you could send this to an editor it sound very near to the original anyway amazing work (sorry for my english)
I keep seeing comments on the lack of smiling. As much as I agree, I can't really say much. Nick's music was very unique, odd tempos, time signatures and melodies, I don't blame the guy for not smiling. True concentration to keep the songs in time to perform them.
Wow. You sound like David Gilmour. I assume that's your own String arrangement and harpsichord? What software are you using to record, and which synth/patch did you use for the strings? Really beautiful job man.
Who are you?? I've never heard someone so good at covering Nick Drake songs. If I didn't know better, I'd almost think your recordings were Drake himself. Would very much like to hear what kinds of songs you eventually end up writing on your own..
i feel like the harpsichord is a subliminal royal tenenbaums reference, because mark mothersbraugh uses one in pretty much all of his scores. what guitar/mic are you using in this video?
You are nothing short of brilliant! When something is done so faithfully, it becomes its own entity. No need to radically alter anything when it's done this well. And do not smile. That would not work with Nick.
You sound amazing! if you were slightly more british sounding i would believe it was actually Nick. the only problem i see is the face you pull when waiting to come in lol. Keep Up the goodwork! enjoyed these alot
Your particular version of this song I think I prefer to Drakes. Your vocal suits it better with the Gilmore overtures and less discordant and loud cello. Still a beautiful song by Nick though, you cant take that away from the man.
