Yes, on pages 94-95. The woman is Sophia, his friend Alex's girlfriend, whom Nick may have had a crush on, but never mentioned it or acted on it. Nickmania, hey, that's great! I have been in it for almost three years now since reading Darker Than the Deepest Sea. His music is all I really care to listen to now.
In the great new Nick biography, we find out that Nick actually proposed to the girl in the background, Sophia, not too long before his death. She turned down his proposal (which may have been more of a cry for help than anything else at this point), and sadly I presume this didn't help his state of mind at the time.
@@kathyhollenbach7413 This is a different take to this same 'Joey' track found originally on Time of No Reply and later on Made to Love Magic. It's almost identical except for subtle vocal differences and production. I'd not heard this take before, which essentially counts as a new 'version' for die-hard fans!
The name of the girl is Sophia. She was the pretty girlfriend of an acquaintance of Nick Drake, a photographer called Alex Henderson. We can see in the eyes of Sophia that Nick Drake is not indifférent to her. She was not the only one. My theory is that Nick Drake is a character who called now asexual. More focused on the feeling of love and its dream lands than a prosaic love and sexual relationship.
