Love finding this song! I am a Canadian, as a kid in my twenties I visited a friend that lived in London, first time in August 1981, second time in September 1983. I remember this song when I was in the UK in 1983, wow it brings back great memories. I remember hearing ' Blue Hat For A Blue Day' on Capitol One radion, also in pubs, etc. I love Nick's other songs, but this song is fabulous for me. I bought the EP of this tune at an HMV near the Bond Street Tube Station London, I still have it. Sadly, '"Blue Hat For A Blue Day" never got any radio play in Vancouver, British Columbia. However, Nick's first band " Haircut 100 " did have songs played on CKLG & CFUN AM radio in Vancouver in 1982. Go figure....
Early 80s were a magical time music was amazing im irish and I love the spoons there song nova heart Is amazing and strange advance we run.both great Canadian bands from back then
Nick Heyward was a really great singer and songwriter. Pity he never got the recognition like George Michael and Nik Kershaw had. Howard Jones was also a great singer and fab keyboard player. Heyward was a great guitarist too
To steal a phrase - "You don't realise what you've got 'til it's already gone " Mr Heywood. ...thank you so much for what you have given us. You are so under - rated and sadly, under appreciated, but I will always remember you. As time goes by. I think your legacy will become greater
Wonder how people truly feel when people say things like “you’re under-appreciated and under-rated.” If it’s meant to be a compliment it actually comes off as a backhanded compliment. I imagine a person is feeling great and then along comes someone and says something like this and then others follow, because they think this will make you feel great. I think it’s a Debbie downer.
24 March 2019. Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique artists such as Nick Heyward and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British artists bands? Thank you from Sicily. And love, admiration and adoration. And after 36 years, with its joy, "Blue Hat For A For Day" has still the power to change my mind on those days when I'd rather electrocute myself in the shower.
All I can say...how do artists this good always fly under the mainstream drivel radar? Lucky for us...we chose to follow him through Haircut 100 and beyond..thank you Nick for all the wonderful songs through the years!.😁👍

Super Bumcrumbs Great eh. I was twelve and used to play this on my tennis racquet (wooden of course), singing along and getting pretty much every word of the verses wrong. Magic.
Great song for a great day... just turned 50 years young and this great album still gets overplayed on my itunes playlist! Atlantic Monday, Whistle Down the Wind, When it Started to Begin... whole album still excites the eardrums!
As a 19 stone bodybuilder back in the day I saw Nick with his lovely girlfriend in an Indian Restaurant in Hampton Court................asking the waiter for his note pad.........I followed Nick to the toilets................he was clearly relieved in more than one sense when I asked for an autograph!..................

Love the song and video. For some reason this really resonates with me. Lightweight sure, but nonetheless a great pop song. Loved it then and still like it now so many years later.
Je vous au découvert M. Heyward il y a seulement une semaine. Ce que je peux c que votre album North of a Miracle est un miracle .. superbes arrangements. Superbes mélodies. Superbe production. C un chef d'oeuvre. Merci
Brilliant artist. Remembering back to happy times in 1993, when my favourite CD's (remember them?) were "Monday To Sunday", Sting's "Ten Summoners" Tales": and Laurence Cottle's "Five Seasons". And, I have to say (it's just occured to me) Nick appeared on the BBC Russell Harty Show in the 80's when I was in the house band up in the scenery, playing bass!
Dear Lord. Just reading a couple of comments here. So typical of what The Toob has become. A platform for the disgruntled and abusive. FFS, it's just a rather splendid wee 80s pop toon. It's not trying to be some orchestral brilliance. It's not a political statement. If ya' don't like it, move along and take that flippin' soapbox with you. Honestly...
I think it is a brilliant song good verse good chorus lovely outro & it is really catchy did not take much to get it stuck in my head! the way I look at music some days is that your favourite songs will be someone's least favourite life is pretty weird like that
