In the early evening sunshine on the Spirit of '71 stage at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival, Nick Lowe played a delightful little set of four Brinsley Schwarz songs. This one first appeared as a single in 1970.
Carl, time marches on. Nick Lowe was at the forefront of pub rock as one of the front men of Brinsley Schwartz, then at the forefront of new wave with Elvis Costello and Graham Parker. I think his vocals are great on this acoustic version.
I don't if this is considered country pop but if it was a classified "country" it would be one of the top 50 country songs of all time. OK, I really don't like country except when incorporated by rockers and geniuses like Nick.
Agreed... I actually got into Lowe's music a few years back when he was supporting Elvis Costello in Oxford. He did a similar type performance with just an acoustic guitar. I was amazed by the quality of the songs he was doing and got into all of his music from his solo work, to brinsley and rockpile. A truly underrated artist.
