The State Meet/D1 Ohio record is a 1:48.93, (Mark Sylvester, Cleveland St. Ignatius) run in 2001. Nick Plant is only a junior so he could break it!

Probably because they should have had a maximum of 11 or 12 runners in this final, like the way that state finals for the 800 meters is held in most other states. There were simply TOO MANY competitors in this event. The kids in lanes 1 and 2 have a proven disadvantage with a 1-turn stagger with this many runners on the track at once, and there also would have been multiple collisions along the backstretch and in the 2nd turn, if the kids did not remain in their lanes until the homestretch of Lap 1. They should have had another semifinal round before this race.

@@santinoramos7632 Yep. I had a bad experience when they had a National Championship in Canton. in 1972. Seems like they haven't learned much about track in 40 years.
