This is a great camera angle of Nick Price looking down the fairway. What I like most about his golf swing is the positive flow of energy. What I mean by that is how the club head stays slightly out in front of his hands while taking the club away from the ball. You'll notice that the shaft disects between his forearms as he loads the club to the top. Once he loads the club, he then re-routes the club as he transitions. This is what I mean by a positive flow of energy. In order to hit the ball in the center of the club face, the club MUST drop down and back from where you took the club up on. In my teaching vocabulary, I would say "you must be more vertical going up and then more shallow coming down." You will need two things... a good golf instructor to explain this and a slow motion camera to be able to view your angles. A qualified instructor will take time to share the angles that will work best for you and your swing.
If you need help with your angles, please contact me at Wildwood Green Golf Club. I will be honored to video tape your swing and take the time to explain your angles going to the top and coming down to impact. This is also known as your swing plane lines.

Great video of Nick Price... truly a great ball striker. How does a person learn to shallow-out the plane during the transition like Nick?

Sometimes the easiest way to get the Nick Price like transition is to practice without hitting many balls. A lot of it has to do with continually rehearsing the shallower move, or the laying the club down technique. Also, tempo is an amazing part of it. Although Nick looks like his tempo is quicker than most, the average golfer must be smoother and lazier in the transition. This will allow the shaft to drop and shallow out. It takes time and patience to pull it off.

The steeper the backswing, the shallower the downswing. Just look at Jim Furyk or Ryan Moore. They are extreme. Nick Price's swing was as near to Leadbetter's schoolbook as it possibly could. His hands are at the same position at both adress and impact.

RollyourRock.... to flatten out on the down swing..... try to feel as though the clubhead is sliding down your back (or maybe your spine) on the downswing. Look, it's a tough move, takes a few thousands range balls to get it right, but if you do the work your ball-striking will improve as will your core strength. You should see a different ball flight, different sound off the club, shallow divots with irons, correct spine angle (by default), a more swing around your body movement (also by default) Start with your 6 iron ....Goodluck!

Annoying interruptions and to many repetitions of the transition spoil this
