Sounds like they have scooped their mids. That is why it sound so heavy and rough. Scooped mids suck when rehearsing with your band though, and that because you can't hear yourself, neither your bandmates, but it sounds incredibly big and amazing anyway, so...
Chad finally using his amazing, raspy voice where it belongs: Heavy metal. His rough, powerful voice, the heavy guitar and the solid drums gave me literally an eargasm.
Yes bro, Spector NS5XL! It was originally recorded on a Spector NS2, so similar pre amp and pickups. Mike is an absolute tone monster, ask anyone in the bass community about Nickelback and they invariably go “sick bass tone”.
@@Nickthebassist01Oh 100%. Mike’s bass tones on Dark Horse are some of the best ever. The combination of them and working with Mutt Lange was an absolute smash.
It's not as sharp as it should be. His enunciation is way off, but he gets the tone changes really well. When he sings it, it sounds like sAD but TrUUUUuuuue. The original is SAAAd but TRUUUuuuue.
Something tells me they would have a hard time playing the stuff off Kill em all.... and all the first 4 albums. The guitarist couldn’t do this solo and it is one of the easier Metallica solos.
@@theamateurlancia I disagree, improvisation is fine but it's not a requirement, besides that Metallica has simplified the timing for the drum break going into the chorus, it always sounded lazy and kinda half arsed to me the way they play that part.
@@luke666808g I don't rlly like Lars but, there were times where they switched drummers in an emergency, like when Joey Jordison played a few songs with them live, it was sick
@@ALNOE_ you can play a song that sounds completely different from the rest of your music in your discography, and have it still sound nothing like pop.
Yeah they started as post grunge, had a real unique sound. But then corporatism took over, the money spoke and so they toned it down and made more radio friendly songs. Potential was there (evident by this) but they sold out unfortunately
Sam Dilks they sold out because people hated their sound, and then all of a sudden they became popular when they changed. Nowadays they're still laughed at by the media but they still have more fans now then ever. ( I'm not a fan but I don't hate them either. I liked their old style that everyone hated lol and every now and then they release a catchy single )
we have supported and followed them in Vancouver since they first played a BOTB's show and a local station started playing them (CFOX) they always had a few flat out hard rock tracks on their albums, it was just that other radio stations picked up on their radio friendly tracks and promoted the hell out of them.
But let’s be honest is there stuff that sounds closer to pop sound that bad? Dude if anyone says photograph is just a bad song I couldn’t believe them if I wanted to.
And they did. In 2017, they released Feed The Machine, the hardest record they had since The State. Of course there were some pop-rock ballads here and there, but half the album is definitely closer to metal than pop. Since then they've mostly been silent aside from the The Devil Went Down To Georgia cover that a lot of people liked, but about a month ago, they announced they're releasing even more hard music again.
Je connais pas trop Nickelback mais j'aime beaucoup beaucoup cette chanson de Metallica et je trouve que Nickelback l'a très bien représentée. Mais l'originale reste la mieux :D
wow ! Those guitars are so crunchy sounding! Also either that drummer is BADASS or maybe Im just not used to hearing a solid drum beat behind Metallica music anymore .. New respect for Nicleback thats for dam sure ..
William Love now you're just making shit up. I didn't say it was bad I'm just saying just because they covered an easy song doesn't mean they deserve tons of respect. I mean I don't like nickelback but even some of their songs are more complex than this
they're fucking kickass. I think that meme got old. plus if you look at their spotify numbers, they're ranking up more listenners than kiss and many other great old "untoucheable" bands.
They seem to be great musicians and coming from a non fan, chad seems to be an incredible singer. I just don’t like the music they make, it seems like generic cookie cutter cliche rock and roll.

They are really good musically, it's just funny and easy to hate them. I think people just like to ride the hate train and not think for themselves. Although, I do hate some of their lyrics and frat-like attitude.
@@buttturkeyclips4891 or just straight up pop music. If they stuck to doing more stuff like this and less garbage like "when we stand together" they'd be an awesome band
lYou have to listen to songs that aren't their ballads. Side of a Bullet (Tribute to Dimbag Darrel), Because of You, Burn it To the Ground, The Betrayal (act III), and Edge of a Revolution are some of their best rock/metal tracks among many
Those guitar and bass tones are crunchy as hell. Makes it sound even heavier than the original studio version. Wish I could get a tone like this out of my setup.
All the bullshit I hear about this band......These guys are true rockers. They got caught up in the money side of music- producers, managers, record labels telling them what to sing, but at heart they can rock! Damn fine job!
This makes me sad, and you know why? Because this proves that they can play pretty damn good if they want to, but prefer not to. They are wasting their talent.
+xHeavenHelpUsAll7771x they were a metallica cover band before hitting big people need to stop bandwaggon jumping nickleback is actually damn good people dont give them a chance because of 2 shit songs hero and photograph... midnight queen animals burn it down are some masterworks of rock.
@@ionehkontehdiabo7627 justice is thrash. if you say its not then your standards are way too high. honestly dont know how you say its not thrash, thats a first for me. and I didnt mean to include reload in that.
Half the comments: ThEy ShOuLd mAkE mEtAl MuSiC Me: sounds like you haven't heard a solid half of their songs, they have WAY heavier music than you think they do
Woke up this morning, Side of a bullet, Flat on the floor, Feed the machine, This means war, Fight for all the wrong reasons are all good heavy ones Fun fact Pantera and Nickelback are good friends and when Dime passed they wrote side of a bullet for them, When they showed Pantera they gave Nickelback a copy of an unreleased Dimebag solo from Southern Trend kill era, Along with that Nickelback asked if Vinnie could do the drum track for it and he said no because he thought nickelback already did a good job
@Dinhisty They didn't fully committed to the heavy metal back when they had the popularity. I guess some of their newer songs were heavier because they don't need to appease the general audience, or maybe you can call it "back to their original roots" because the band originally started as a metal band 🤷🏻♂️
gasmaskboi19371945 They should have NEVER made How You Remind Me (or any other Radio rock song for that matter) , then they wouldn't have dissolved into a corporate rock band then. The fact that How You Remind Me turned them incredibly rich, is the reason why they turned into a corporate band in the first place. Because MONEYZ fucks things up badly.
First time i hear a live version of that song and the drummer managed to hold a beat. This was probably the most confusing headbanging for a very long time. Impressive!
This has got to be one of the best covers I've seen period. I'm impressed at how close this sounds to the studio version live 🔥🔥. Just like how Metallica did a cover album , I kinda want to see Nickelback do a Metallica cover album now lol imagine them playing Battery or Master of Puppets or Dyers Eve, Shortest Straw etc ?...... That era where James has that rough gritty Rasp (Master , Justice, Black etc ) Chad nearly has that down pat.
Nickelback is one of the biggest examples of how much a label/record company can ruin a band. They are extremely talented, but their label has such a huge influence and voice on the music they create and release
As a die hard fan of Metallica, I was skeptical to say the least at hearing about this cover. I am pleasantly surprised. It truly is the awkward moment when Nickelback doesn't sound shitty.
"So how does nickelback prevent people from leaving a nickelback concert? By NOT playing nickelback. It's absolutely brilliant. I wish I thought of that!" Stevie T
Nickelback should totally just make there next album metal...they have the sound for it, this is good enough that if they made a full version I would buy it
I used to listen to Nickelback a few years years ago and now I'm more into heavy stuff (including Metallica), but damn this is such a badass cover! They would be an awesome metal band!!! \m/
They totally should do a cover of the full version of this song this song will go down in history and for nickelback performing it will b a very huge honor
