I don't know why people hate on Nickleback, I think they're bloody brilliant...and this is a superb tribute to another wonderful band who deserve all the praise they get
I find it so ridiculous that Nickelback was swept into a wave of dislike. They have sold 50 million records worldwide and just checking Spotify 10.5 Million monthly listeners.- why ? because people ENJOY the music. Chad is a great singer and the band is talented and they write great songs. Simplistic, Cookie cutter, or what ever the critics say - SO what ? there are many hits that are simple that are based on proven templates. An example - a band that does not deserve their fame - KISS .. they have a few worthy songs but thats it - they suck ! its the theatrics that made them popular - did you ever see a mass uprising against KISS ? To each his own - if you never liked Nickelback music, fine. The problem I have is the sheep-like (people that can not think for themselves) following after some haters started an Anti-Nickelback movement. It somehow became the cool thing to dish them and the uncool thing to like them. So, you were a fan and then you ditch them and follow along ? Rock Radio stations that made good money on them suddenly started advertising (along with of a list of other bands - Michael jackson, etc LOL) that they were Nickelback free ! disgusting. Music is to enjoy - lift your spirit, dance, or chill ! period
@@sydsdh Its mostly due to the ass of a frontman with a raging superiority complex. Other than that their music is simplistic and often trashy. Not a great band all in all but i agree that hating them is just boring now.

It is. I've certainly seen quite a few covers of this one on YT that sucked. This one is one of the better ones. One group (can't recall the name and they're not worth searching because they SUCK ) made a "de-genderized" cover which was the most idiotic thing I've ever listened to.
I ike how they kept the same style without putting too much of their own spin on it. (fan of ZZ Top since the mid 90's because i'm a lot younger than you and my dad has a great taste in music)
I raised my kids up on ZZ Top too. Those of us growing up in the 70's had so many good bands to listen to and go to their concerts. I agree with you that Nickelback showed respect to the song and didn't overpower it with their own spin.

I'm not going to lie, I've always felt it was a promotional/publicity thing. I'm 27, every single person I knew, grew up jammin this. They all pretend to hate them now, but if I turn them on, they are the first ones singing. It's silly, but whatever. Rock on.
I hate the mentality people have with supporting Nickelback just because they cover a song well. This could have easily been an original Nickelback song and they would have got crap for it. And don't get me started on when people all of a sudden praise them because they cover a Metallica song well. These people have it in their minds that "heavier" sounding music like Metallica's "Sad But True" is better than lighter sounding. It's such a stupid mentality. If you're gonna hate on anything that sounds lighter than metal, then you might as well be hating on some of the most praised musicians we have had. Nickelback don't deserve the hate. As a musician myself I honestly think Chad is one of the best musicians of the modern rock scene. Much better than the likes of Dave Grohl and Corey Taylor, that's for sure. I understand some people will be gobsmacked at this comment. But i'm only giving my point of view as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. I'm not giving my point of view as someone who reads what a hater on the internet says with loads of upvotes and then forms my opinion from reading their upvoted comment thinking it's the right view and then going on to regurgitate it influencing more people to have the same stupid, negative view.
It's not so much the bands music or even the band itself, its reputation is more from the fact Chad Kroeger was an absolute prick for a long time and did alot of bad things, including being extremely disrespectful to fans. The music was still good and the rest of the band didn't deserve to suffer for it.

+Rat Trap Allow me to explain the "hate" then. They have proven themselves to be proficient musicians (especially when watching covers like this one), but when it comes to their own music they willingly choose to write crap for the ears of the lowest common denominator.
I am 68 old rock aficionado who loves ZZ Top and all that generation's sound. I have just discovered Nickelback believe it or not ... what a musicians they are ... now they made me heavy rock - metal fan as a result of their fantastic enthusiastic performance of this legendary song, congratulations and keep going for more !
It takes the audience half a moment to realize that this cover is going to be ON FIRE but when they do they are all in AND THEN the guitar solo totally blows the roof off of everything and they go crazy! Great job Nickelback.
They do sound amazing, but every bands popularity is made from their art and and media image. Nickelback is a very good band, but their image is pulling them down, because Chad is considered to be a douche.

Anybody who thinks Nickelback is irrelevant or a band to make fun of is a real dumbo. From their very beginning, it is obvious that they are extremely a cut above and full of musical excellence!
It's not very often a ZZ Top is done as good as the original, if not better, by another band. Not much of a fan of new milennium alternative rock bands, but Nickelback totally nailed this.
None of the Nickelback haters could tie these guys’ shoes, tune their instruments, or perform like this. I come back here occasionally to see the best performance of this song. 🤘🏼
Honestly every time I watch this I’m more impressed. Right from the first note out of his mouth you KNEW this was indeed going to be something special. And the smile on Chad’s face at the end shows that he KNOWS they fucking nailed it.
They already have us watching the game. The reason for the eye candy and pop stars is to pull in the other viewers who otherwise couldn't care less about football. I don't like the halftime performers either, but I kind of understand why they do it.
Whatever you say about Nickelback, to do a cover tribute this good means you know a fair bit of rock. ZZtop are legends, and Nickelback did them proud.

same I nearly got all the albums 5 on ipod and 2 on cd ones a collection of songs though, the ones on the ipod have a few missing songs but that's whatever.

Chad Kroger has one of the best voices in the world. he can sing anything from ZZ Top to metallica to country. He can change up his voice to suit any song. Phenomenal!!!

Taylor was also found, by VVN Music, to possess the second-widest vocal range of any known singer in popular music with a range of five and a half octaves. Fact! Go ahead look it up.... Lee Baker Check out any song from Stevie Ray Vaughan "Live at the El Mocambo" Small club setting, but still rocking the house. While this was very good from Nickelback, the musicianship was lacking.
I grew up listening to Nickelback, and I always remember as a kid, not understanding the hate they get. Burn It To The Ground is still one of the best Stadium/Arena anthems created!

The reason I love this cover is the extra dimension that Chad’s rhythm guitar adds .. that driving “chug chug” is HUGE. Oh, and they nail the rest as well… the bassist has even got the Dusty “dance” goin’ on.

I'm not going to make fun of you for liking Nickelback's music. Shit, "Side of a Bullet" was actually one of my favorite songs when I was a child.
Yes, you're right. For the Internet crowd, the "let's bully till we've ridiculed them out of the business" folks, hatred without reason is cool. To me, these are the 'people' who represent the lowest common denominator (LCD) of world opinion. Every concert pianist, for example, that people pay to see--cover the classics. I don't hear anyone saying, "they have skill but they're not real musicians because they don't play their own songs on stage!" Covering classics to the degree Nickelback can 'bring it,' doesn't deserve anyones contempt...They live their own life making their own choices, make money and have fun. I, for one, think this works well for them. I'd pay to see them! As for the LCD folks, what is it you do that people by the thousands would pay to come see you do? Yeah, right! That's what I thought.
