The hate really came on when they did the soundtrack for a movie, of which they owned zero rights. Fans, especially in the US, demanded they perform it live and wouldn’t accept the reality that they couldn’t (unless they paid the studio a shit load of money) so the fans blamed them for an unwarranted disappointment! Not unusual when 🇨🇦 bands head to the states.
@@justaguy1109 What, able to soak up liters of blood? Full of iron and deathly chemicals? I wouldn't give Nickelback that much credit. Or were you just making a sexist joke?
I love this one. Everyone interprets things differently but, I always thought this song spoke about always falling short and the one person that's always there to point out just where you fell.
Your's is the first reaction channel that does not avoid Nickelback. Regardless of their haters, they have an extensive catalog of hits for you to react to. Please keep it up!
I second the hell out of that! If you like Nickelback, especially since you like "Someday", listen to "Far Away" buddy. Damn good song. I promise you'll like it.
Basically he got into a fight with his girl and he knew he loved her but he was just getting tired of the drama and feeling like he could never do anything right. When they fought it brought out the worst in him, but they fought so much by the end of it that he felt he was turning into someone else. "This is how you remind me of what I really am"
Nickleback has always been cool in my book , love the sound ,lost in the Video , But who cannot like this i do not understand ,great Reaction thank you . The Texas Gent
Its basically a meme to hate Nickelback, so a lot of people do it because that's what they see online. Whatever... I think they have a nice mix of rock and pop, some old ones like S.E.X. or Something in your mouth are more rocky and newer stuff probably more poppy, like e.g. Photograph
The real reason people claim to hate them is because they were a garage band and their fans called them sellouts for going mainstream.. What band doesn't want to be huge Rock Icons if the opportunity comes knocking..
That's definitely in my top 3 Nickelback songs. I also don't get the meme of hating this band. I catch extra shit from not only loving Nickelback, but being a black chick that loves them.
I don’t know why they get so much hate 🤷🏼♀️ They usually play halftime at Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day Game! Sold out game! Nickelback is doing something right!
My understanding is the lead singer wrote this song after a major real-life fight with his then-girlfriend, now-ex-girlfriend. IMO, it's not so much a break-up song as it is a song right before the break-up, when things are the most toxic. My interpretation, given the context, is "What he really is", is "a loser", at least in his girlfriend's eyes. The video (again, as I understand it) is post-breakup and he's haunted by memories of his now-ex-girlfriend (anything in colour = his memories; anything in black and white = current reality) but in the end, it's the girlfriend who's haunted by memories of him. Can you tell I love this song? :) I wasn't a huge Nickelback fan when they first came on the scene but mainly because I wasn't paying much attention to music at that point in my life, but I LOVE his voice and their music!
Their first hit is still my favorite. It was once explained that his “ex” is kind of haunting him. When her memory is there, his world is bright and gold, when she disappears, it turn blue and cold. Her haunting torments him and he knows she’s no good for him, but in the end, he sees the real her and rejects her. She tries to return to him, but is left in the blue, cold world this time.
I’ve been to 100’s of live concerts in my life…Saw these dudes live 20 years ago in a smaller venue…I’ve never seen a crowd erupt and sing along more than when they played this song. The venue was literally shaking.
People tend to dislike them because they're seen as a band that use a simple formula over and over again to make catchy songs played for radio. And then there's of course people who just hate them because they think its cool to hate them, personally I can see how they can be criticised for not being overly experimental but tbh i can't help but enjoy some of their melodies man, particularly this song and the sweet nostalgia of 'Photograph'. And his voice is amazing!
The reason people hate Nickelback is because of political correctness.Listen to Figured You Out, and Side of a Bullet. There are several more too. Me personally, I don’t see anything wrong with their music. They are an awesome band, and one of my favorites. The politically correct machine is trying to control our freedoms...speech, artistic creativity, thought, opinions, and every other liberty we have, & Nickelback is one of their targets. There is a video on RU-vid about it, and it’s one of the reasons I stand behind their music. It’s our right to like who we want and their’s to write whatever lyrics they want. We should support them because we LOVE them, & to fight the “MACHINE.” Machine....hmmmmm reminds me of another great band called “ Rage Against the MACHINE”.....it’s so rock n roll to fight the machine....PLAY MORE NICKELBACK LOL we love them.
I find it hard to believe you didn't know that song before you watched it on this video! I don't know if it has to be your first time you watch something when you do a reaction, but seriously man this was the most played song of the past decade. THE MOST PLAYED SONG OF THE 2000's, and by the way it is called HOW you remind me! Thanks for making these reaction videos, hope you will do more Nickelback in the near future, make sure to do for Far Away too!
Won tickets to see them in 17. No one i knew could go with me so the gang banger next door said i will go. He had never listened to anything except Hip Hop. He really liked it and stuck out like a sore thumb. He thanked me for taking him.
This song is a good example of their concerts being way better then the videos. Its also one of their songs where the words follow a difference cadence then you might expect, they kind of roll past the usual point, sometimes into the next line. I like it.
Never made it as a wise man I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing Tired of living like a blind man I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling And this is how you remind me This is how you remind me Of what I really am This is how you remind me Of what I really am It's not like you to say sorry I was waiting on a different story This time I'm mistaken for handing you a heart worth breaking and I've been wrong, i've been down, been to the bottom of every bottle these five words in my head scream "are we having fun yet?" Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no it's not like you didn't know that I said I love you and I swear I still do And it must have been so bad Cause living with me must have damn near killed you And this is how, you remind me Of what I really am This is how, you remind me Of what I really am It's not like you to say sorry I was waiting on a different story This time I'm mistaken for handing you a heart worth breaking and I've been wrong, i've been down, been to the bottom of every bottle these five words in my head scream "are we having fun yet?" Yet, yet, yet, no, no yet, yet, yet, no, no yet, yet, yet, no, no yet, yet, yet, no, no Never made it as a wise man I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing And this is how you remind me This is how you remind me This is how you remind me Of what i really am This is how you remind me Of what I really am It's not like you to say sorry I was waiting on a different story This time I'm mistaken for handing you a heart worth breaking And I've been wrong, I've been down, been to the bottom of every bottle these five words in my head scream "are we having fun yet?" Yet, yet are we having fun yet Yet, yet are we having fun yet Yet, yet are we having fun yet
It was simply a case of so many people liking Nickelback and so many stations playing them that it become “cool” to not like them. Kinda that old saying by Yogi Berra, “That restaurant is so popular that no one ever goes there anymore.”
Sometimes you give someone a heart that's pure and they can't wait to play with it and break it like a child who's been given everything and can't appreciate what they have.
So many good Nickelback songs! I personally love Nickelback! Small list of my tops favorites would be Too Bad, Never Again, If Everyone Cared, Someday, Rockstar and If Today was your last day! Not everyone likes Nickelback not sure why but I'm glad you have liked them so far!
I just watched this after your "Photograph" reaction and I'm so glad you did this one.My favorite Nickleback song. The lyrics that always stood out to me are "Are we having fun yet"... this came out when I was in a very bad relationship, so I could always relate to that. Thank you again for another great reaction, God bless.
I have never understood the meaning, but the music and singing is good enough that I didn't care whether or not I understood it. Thank you for your honest reactions.
5:26 he says “i’ve been wrong, ive been down to the bottom of every bottle, these 5 words in my head scream are we having fun yet, yet, yet, no no” he means that he’s been drinking since she left.
People like to make fun of Nickelback but Nickelback has his gold records and it's platinum's so at some point somebody was listening to him I think that you're a band that didn't get to their just do
Nickelback - Far Away Nickelback - Photograph Nickelback - Savin' Me Nickelback - If Today Was Your Last Day Nickelback - Never Gonna Be Alone Nickelback - Someday Nickelback - I'd Come For You Nickelback - Trying Not To Love You (My favorite of Nickelback) Avril Lavigne - Let Me Go ft. Chad Kroeger Santana - Into The Night ft. Chad Kroeger
It's just a trend to hate Nickelback. People are just playing follow the leader I guess. I will always like them. They have some new songs that are pretty good too. A few of them are After The Rain, Home, Feed The Machine and Must Be Nice. The last one has some swears in it, just figured I'd tell you. It's still super catchy though.
... he basically was talking about how his heart was broken over the love of his life. and this is how you remind me of who I really am basically crying his heart out to a girl that really didn't care about him or his love
Nickleback is one of those things that got popular to hate so even people who like them say they hate them because they dont want to be made fun of for liking them. I used to really like Nickleback and have seen them in concert they are great live but I just got sick of them. A lot of their songs feel the same and when listening to their albums it just gets repetitive but I definitely still enjoy going back and listening every so often
I like Creed and Nickleback. Sometimes I like a song, even if I don't understand what the writer meant. If judging by some videos, there may be a lot of times I think the song is about something totally different, lol. In the end, isn't that what makes music such a personal thing? It's about what the music means to you.
5:17 when he says “this is how u remind me of what i really am” he’s saying that the reasons why she left him was because he was a pathetic and a bad guy so now when he thinks of her he thinks about the type of person he must really be like
Hi mate. Still loving your reactions. I'd really love for you to do a reaction to Staind, It's been Awhile. This band is normally pretty heavy but this song is amazing!!!
I know you want to get into folk. Any of these songs will get you started: Bon iver- skinny love Joe puffy- this love - far away blues - skinny dippin girl - I love the other most *a favorite of mine* - faketown - it’s a wonder - you don’t like me anymore - California girl
I think their best and deepest song is "Too bad". It's about his father leaving at an early age and how it traumatized him and his mother. Super good song too.
