Here’s my take on the situation: Jesi: Yes, I wholeheartedly believe she’s blackfishing, but I don’t think she meant it in a malicious way. I don’t think the video or the appropriation of our culture was meant to be nasty. I believe she was doing what every other white girl/ boy is doing nowadays. They’re getting braids, locks, Durags, injecting themselves with plastic to get the same features as black people because they realize that that is what is popping in the industry right now. As a black person I understand why people are upset about it too, we have been refused jobs, made fun of, and rejected for our culture but when the same people who did that to us use our culture they benefit from it. I totally agree with y’all but the one thing I’m having a hard time with people saying is how Jesy was “ acting “ about being innocent and having some mad master scheme to go solo. The girl nearly took her own life not once but TWICE while being in the band and that was because of Perrie. Leigh or Jade rather the lack of care shown to Jesy by her team and management back at little mix. Jesy is a very strong woman for sharing her suicide attempt and journey with world because I know from being severely depressed… ITS HARD telling your truth. Jesy even said she would have stayed in the band forever if it wasn’t for the pandemic because it was the first time the girls had got time off of work which is quite sad and if you are someone struggling and or have been effected by anxiety and depression for a decade like you are gonna feel mentally trapped having your life planned out for you day by day and that’s valid. So I think with the pandemic and Jesy having more free time to think and reflect she realized her time in the band had been AMAIZNG but she also almost killed herself because of feelings worthless and so insecure with herself, I think realizing that and seeing that you’d only live ONCE, you gotta put yourself first sometimes and make yourself happy. After the first suicide attempt in 2013, Jesy was told to film a music video a week after and she did because she wanted to stay loyal to the girls and not let them down. CAN we all think about that? She NEARLY DIED OVERDOSING on pills because of being so insecure yet she was told to brush it under a rug and not worry and go film a video like she put her mental health to the aside a lot for her fans, for the girls and for little mix as a whole…. That’s pretty selfless if you ask me. Now that does NOT excuse some of her actions she is dealing with now but I don’t think it’s right of people to say someone tried killing themselves twice was doing it because she wanted to be “ solo” .
