This is the last recording session and video for my dear friend Nicky Hopkins. This was taken 11/18/92 in my studio in Sherman Oaks Ca. This was sitting on a shelf for 22 years.
Without ever knowing who the player was, I've always adored the piano parts in John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' and 'Oh Yoko!', and The Rolling Stones' 'Angie', and many, many other recordings that Nicky apparently played on (I'm just now discovering him). What a wonderful musical legacy this man left us. RIP brother.
Yes i first heard of Nicky back in 1971 on John Lennon's Albums he is sadly missed, i had several of John's songs professionally transcribed for piano including Crippled Inside,Oh Yoko and Jealous Guy also got Old Dirt Road anthology and Album versions done and Oh My Love all as played by Nicky.
i have loved Nicky hopkins beautiful ,sensitive music since hearing his amazing contribution to steve millers early records.. i was fourteen when i first heard kow kow calculator, babys house and so much more, if Nicky played on it , I wanted to hear it. i am 60 now and still listening to the same music. Thanks for posting this.
funny...i was just listening to miller's "your saving grace" album and marveling at how incredible nicky's playing was on "baby's house." i wish they would remaster and reissue those first five miller band albums.
@@dianestrauss9699 Thanks Diane!❤ Yes he was! Damn I missed the deadline myself for this year but watch out around this time next year for another nomination.. But he will get there!x
I've spent years listening to Nicky play with Jeff Beck, the Jefferson Airplane and the Rolling Stones (e.g. Exile on Main St) but this is something quite new to me. Thanks to Joe Tansin and your shelf.
What an amazing piano player he was. My favourite is the track She's a Rainbow by the Stones. His playing is so precise and melodic. I would have loved to have met him. RIP Mr. Hopkins.
Joe... do you have any footage, or is there any known footage anywhere of you, nicky and ken harck playing together in badfinger? ken adored nicky and he speaks of that time often... would love to surprise him with something from that era.. thx.. Rick
