Before reggaeton, we called it "Rap and Reggae". I think someone would've called it reggaeton sooner or later. Cause "ton" comes from the word "montón" meaning "a lot" or "big" So eventually someone would've added the "ton" just to express "this explosion of reggae" or "this whole lot of reggae" when talking about thier song.

Reggae in Spanish that wasn't mixed with rap or other genres was done in Panamá first. If that's what you're saying then yeah your right. But once it was mixed with rap and other sounds it became Reggaeton.
