The publics enthusiasm make Nico smile; then she performs an ''unplugged'' harmonium[organ]-version of 'Genghis Khan' from her cd 'Drama of exile' ; after that stunning performance she sings 'You forgot to answer' .
"I'm absolutely convinced that some day, when people have ears to hear [Nico] in the same way that people have eyes to see a van Gogh now, that people are just gonna go, 'WHOOOAAA!'" -Iggy Pop
This reminds me of something like a less virtuosic, but more soulful, Diamanda Galas. Love it. Love it. Whereas Diamanda is a more in control artist, this is just like, total tragedy, very sad and beautiful. Sounds like the voice of the goddess of death.
Nico was not " miserable ' or " sad " or " tragic ". She could be amusing, playful and a good laugh. She painted on the white make up and did the show - always the actress.
Sensationell!
All of her songs, regardless of their arrangement on the records, always sound so much better when does them solo on harmonium. I wish there were more recordings of her early concerts around. Or that she had done more solo shows in the 80s.
upon writing this comment i have actually found a vid of nico with tabla player and some other musicians and, of course, she is more cheerful.....i did not say "cheerful"...i said "more cheerful"...lol....
The ultimate 'femme fatale' - because she was fatal to herself, and therefore to anyone else who came near. I so much wish that she had found some kind of happiness, eventually. Of course, that might have meant the end of the Nico we knew. But small loss, if she'd survived. People are more important than art. An older, mellower Nico - a bit boring, eh? I could have coped with that. She was beautiful.
