After I saw how beautiful the onion skins dyed the fabric, I went to one of our grocery stores to their onion bin and collected all the loose onion skins that fell off the onions. No one in the store noticed what I was doing. Pethaps they thought she's helping clean out the bins rather than the help.
I just saw your video showing your land and discussing your property, trees, and the leaves you use for dying. What a beautiful space and thoughtful, inspiring video. Thank you so much! 0:10
Thanks Nicola for sharing this tutorial! I love dyeing in the dirty pot. It is the most fun thing I have done in years. I am still learning but taking your class Up-Cycle your clothing in the Dirty Pot was unbelievable. I recommend this class for any beginner to eco dyeing and even those that have used mordants and have experience. It is wonderful to wear your old clothes new with lovely prints for leaves and onion skins. I have never dyed anything before find Nicola's videos and classes. I love that it is so easy to learn from her and so rewarding with the results that I have gotten. I was very proud of my first bundles and always will be. Good luck everyone on your journey.
Omgosh I see a new obsession in my extremely near future! I can’t wait to try this ! Are there herbs or other vegetation that you would NOT recommend using for eco printing? So very glad I found your channel, and so appreciative of your willingness to share your knowledge and talents.
It's absurb to suggest that alum isn't "eco" enough for you and then jump many planes to go to the other side of the world, as if that is somehow fine. . I don't believe for a moment that the effect of vinegar is different from lemon or other acids
Hi Nicola, Wondering if it is possible to eco-print on pre-colored wool in the dirty pot? i.e. a red blanket or blue sweater ..... Finding plain i.e. not industrially dyed wool, silk etc in the second hand stores is proving a bit challenging and wondered if I could spread out in this direction? Many thanks for your thoughts.
