Nicolas Cage explains the surreal experience of playing himself opposite Pedro Pascal in ''The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent' during an interview at the Variety Studio at SXSW. bit.ly/VarietyS... / variety / variety / variety
I honestly cant tell if Nick Cage doesnt know that people love him haha. Everyone jokes about him doing so many films, but he is also one of the best actors there is.
What bothers him is people on the internet “loving” him ironically. I mean just his subreddit is called r/onetruegod. I have also seen a lot of his “fans” dislike the movies, where he tries a different approach, such as Willy’s Wonderland and Pig. The trend has been changing lately, but for quite a while a very vocal part of his “fandom” just enjoyed laughing at his “freakouts”. Many actors transform into a character, while Nicolas Cage tries to put his own expertise and being into the characters. And when you put yourself out there (as he put it “be emotionally naked”) and people just go “haha funny scream” it can be extremely hurtful. You can clearly see the difference between his GQ appearances. In the “Nicolas Cage Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters” he is full of life and passion, but in “Nicolas Cage Replies to Fans on the Internet” he seems bummed out. That’s why he stresses he is playing “a different version of Nic Cage” in this movie - the director wanted him to play a more “Cagey” Nic Cage, more in line with the meme rather than who he feels he really is.
@@markpodlinsek9697 Honestly, Nick just isn't going to get it. He's out of touch. He wouldn't know how to joke around with them. And I'm not saying it like it's a bad thing. He's from a different generation and clearly doesn't understand these fans and this kind of 'internet culture'. Some people can understand it. Look at old William Shatner for example, but Nick doesn't have the personality for it.
Thats great kiddo.. .sad to hear you never met us real people. I am ”PRETTY” sure nick knows how much we respect his work. You are just very late to this party, but im very happy that the next, next, next generation loves leaving las vegas just as much as the racist grandpa
Honestly, to have the billionaire drug kingpin superfan of Nic Cage be played by Nic Cage while somebody else plays the character of Nic Cage would have been a stroke of brilliance.
Just watching Pedro shine as Nic was complimenting him was so cute. Also how he could joke around with him was amazing to watch. Especially because Pedro is a huge fan of Nic and it’s crazy and probably stressful to sit and talk with your idol.
why is nic cage not in tarantino film yet??? of all the actors currently alive and working, nic cage seems like he perfectly belong in a tarantino film, more so than brad pitt or leo.
that part was directed by rob zombie. nic cage being directed by zombie is like giving premium quality brush and canvas to a toddler. he wouldnt know what to do with it except making a mess.
So wait, randomly putting photos of Nick Cage everywhere is a universal experience???? Freshman year of college our entire floor did that. But it was more of a game than just placing the photo. You had to put it somewhere very odd & whoever found it got to put it somewhere even stranger. It was where's Waldo but with Nick Cage🤣
It's so interesting to watch them talk about Pedro's weird sense of humor and realize they are referring to chilean sense of humor lol. As chilean I'm fully aware of that because it's the way we make fun of stuff here and make jokes about things.
I really hope the success of this movie brings Nic back into the public consciousness. He seems like such a truly genuine soul. Can't wait to see this movie.
Nicolas: My life used to be a disaster but i managed to turn it around thanks to the help of THIS man, right here! He beleived in me when nobody else did and his words of motivation gave me the strength to keep moving foward and overcome my family crisis as well as the clutches of the IRS. Pedro Pascal: Ha, haaa! I told you, Cage! Life is good but it can be better! All you have to do is want it! You can have EVERYTHING you've EVER wanted!!!
Omg! I loved it, at the close, when Mr. Cage said he always felt he didn't have a career but did the work in front of him. That's exactly how I feel about work. It's not a career, its a job I do for now. I've never heard anyone else agree with me in that sentiment nor put it so succinctly.
pedro being nervous to say how much he loves nicolas cage is so sweet. I love Pedro's uniqueness....wearing his happy socks and being so funny all the time. He is definitely the kid who pushed all the buttons in the elevator. I adore Pedro like he adores Nicolas. Pedro is my Nicolas Cage.
Hey Variety: Thanks for doing interviews for film festival movies like this one. I kept this video on a list for two years, just waiting until I finally saw it. (Actors especially always give away too much plot for me to watch these as "promotion.") This was such a weird film. Good stuff.
I mean, just the way he sits is so Cage. Omg I just hope he doesn’t smack someone at the Oscar’s in the future. My heart won’t be able to take it twice. Deep breath. In Cage we trust.
Love this Variety Studio interview with the cast and director. But I came here for only for Nicolas Cage, can’t wait for this film. He is a true iconic legend, so eccentric, weird in the greatest ways possible. I want his jacket here, nice and sparkly. Looking very cute, charming and handsome as well. Nobody else can play Nic Cage ever but himself, 💯 haha! 😍😘🥰👑⚜️✨💎🌟🤩🎞🥵🤤 🤍
5 min and 54 sec: who are all the other actors in there? they havent said anything nor are being asked about their role. poor dudes. ps: lovely pedro, here for him, even though i`ve known nicolas cage all my life (in movies of course).
☠BLACK BARON☠ The Artist with massive creativity and talent that has to spend his time with a psychologist to defend himself ... and all the debts he has to pay to keep the family, house and life style alife and kicking every day. The man who has no time for family life kids all day long and lots of housewife talks because of his artistic career ambition ... I mean, that was quite authentic.
