Back to the Future (1985)
Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. Set in 1985, it follows Marty McFly (Fox), a teenager accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean automobile built by his eccentric scientist friend Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd), where he inadvertently prevents his future parents from falling in love - threatening his own existence - and is forced to reconcile them and somehow get back to the future.

I was a teenager in the 1980s. The "you can't spend time alone in a car with a girl, but hanging out with a peculiar local scientist who is 40 years older than you is fine" social rules are accurate. And in case you were wondering, yes it was a great time to be a teenager.

The "Something's gotta be done about your kids!" ending was really intended as just a gag. There was no intent to ever make a sequel, but it was such a hit, and eventually, they came up with a continuation. BTTF is one of the best trilogies ever made.
@davidbeach4682
@davidbeach4682 10 месяцев назад
Definitely do all three. Back to the Future is one of the strongest trilogies ever put to film. The Sports poster was a Huey Lewis and the News album entitled Sports. Huey Lewis did several of the songs, including Power of Love, Back in Time. Huey did a cameo as the teacher who shot Marty down in the audition for "being too damn loud" while playing a Huey Lewis tune. There are many background easter egg time change nuggets in all three films, as well as the more obvious changes. Half the fun is trying to find or notice them.

The movie theater marquees change too. Real film Cattle Queen of Montana w/ Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan (foreshadows the Reagan as President joke) becomes Orgy American Style, a real soft core movie with cult favorite Rene Bond and George "Buck" Flower (the latter plays Red the Bum in BTTF). Another theater has actual film The Atomic Kid w/ Mickey Rooney and Robert Strauss (the two actors are predecessors to Fox and Lloyd) later becoming The Assembly of Christ (Church). Both theaters have apparently fallen on hard times.

The idea of the movie came about when writer Bob Gale found his dad's old high school yearbook and learned he'd been class president. He wondered if he'd be friends with his parents if they went to school at the same time, which led to the idea for a story where a kid goes to school with his parents. There was a couple of hiccups with casting. Michael J. Fox was always their first choice to play Marty, but he was busy with a popular TV show at the time called "Family Ties", so they cast another actor named Eric Stoltz. After a few weeks, it became clear that Stoltz wasn't working out. He was giving a dramatic performance, but this was supposed to be a comedy. Gale and Zemeckis made the difficult choice to let Stoltz go and pleaded with the "Family Ties" showrunner to let Michael do the movie. The compromise was that he would work on the show by day and the movie by night. That's why so much of it takes place at night or indoors. The Marty casting debacle affected some other roles in the film. An actor named JJ Cohen was supposed to play Biff, but he wasn't physically imposing next to Stoltz (who is quite a bit taller than Michael) so they cast Tom Wilson as Biff and JJ ended up playing one of Biff's gang. Also Melora Hardin (who later played Jan on "The Office") was cast as Jennifer, but when Michael replaced Stoltz, they decided she was too tall next to him, and she was replaced with Claudia Wells. If you're wondering about the "permit" that Dox showed the cop, there was a deleted scene where the "permit" is Doc slipping the cop a few bucks.

Great reaction Nicolette, And welcome to the channel hope to see more reaction by you in this channel. I love this movie its one of my favourites, and the trilogy is a timeless masterpiece. There are a cameo in this one, Huey Lewis and the News provided the song "Back in Time" to the Back to the Future soundtrack, which played during the film's credits. At the beginning of Back to the Future, Huey Lewis took on a nerdy persona in an uncredited cameo as a judge for Battle of the Bands. Marty's band "The Pinheads" played a hard rock cover of Huey Lewis and the News' "Power of Love," but were ironically rejected by Huey Lewis' character. And this was the first film role for Billy Zane While he played a bigger role than a short cameo, Billy Zane made his acting debut as Biff's friend Match in this movie and second. Keep up the good work.

It's not very clear from the movie (although you can see Doc pulling out his wallet), but the script and the novelization make it clear that he just bribes that cop. 😁 (IIRC in the novelization he says something like "yes, I have a permit from Ben Franklin personally" and gives him a 100 dollar bill.)

There's a deleted scene called "Doc's Belongings" where Marty asks Doc for a matching transformer-- to connect his 1980s camcorder to Doc's 1950s TV-- and realizes they haven't been invented yet. During the rest of that scene you can see Marty in the background (while Doc goes through his future self's belongings) improvising a connection to the TV by cutting and splicing wires. That scene suggests that Marty is himself sort of an electronics wiz, and befriended Doc at some point due to his interests.

Nice watch, Nick. So enjoyable to see someone who's so invested. When Marty gets hit by a car, Grandpa says, "Another kid jumped in front of the car." I'm convinced that Loraine is a siren, and she's luring guys onto the rocks hoping to land,"the one." Apparently, Biff isn't on her list of targets, and he's pissed. Who kisses their brother like that? It's really convenient that Biff has a glass jaw and can't take a punch. Huey Lewis, the guy who told Marty he was too loud, wrote the song The pinheads were playing. It's not the only one. His band's next album was "Sports." You'll need to watch BTTF multiple times to see what changes Marty's road trip caused. It is an easy repeater. Welcome to the franchise.

When Doc says, "...we're sending you back to the future," and breaks the 4th wall by lookong into and pointing at the camera, he's pointing at the audience who would be watching this in theaters in 1985, which is the time Marty will be sent to. It also reveals to the audience why the title makes sense, because from 1955-Doc's perspective, 1985 is "the future" and Marty is going back to it. Up until that point, the title seems nonsensical, ie how can you go BACK to the future? Even from Marty's perspective, he wants to go back to what he considers to be the present.

The most obvious one is the name of the mall is changing, but there are many more. And so on 😉 You'll find references, easter eggs and fun facts for all 3 movies, so keep on rolling, you'll not gonna regret it. And if you ever got the chance to watch them in cinema, go for it! Marty didn't know what would happen when he hit 88. He wasn't expecting it because he accidentally turned the time circuits on

36:16 - "Sports" is a #1 album by Huey Lewis and the News. Released in 1983 and spent nearly 2 years on the charts and had 4 top 5 singles (with 2 at #1). ALSO: Huey Lewis is the teacher in the movie who told Marty's band they were "Just too darn loud".

I've watched probably a hundred reactions to "Back to the Future", and nobody has realized that Huey Lewis is the "too darned loud" teacher, and that he's saying it regarding his own song. It's the inside joke lost to the ages, because no young person knows what Huey Lewis looks like. When I saw this in the theater in 1985, the crowd erupted with laughter, but now...not so much. However, it took me decades to realize that the "permit" Doc gave to the police was a money bribe.

No sequel was planned; the ending was a joke, and caused considerable consternation when they came to making the sequel. Were they planning a sequel: A. They never would have taken Jennifer. B. Doc would have (I hope) returned in the dark of night, a few weeks later, with no sense of urgency. He has all the time he wants. C. They would never have gone to the future.

I saw this 4 times in theaters! I have heard it's studied in film schools as the example of a perfect screenplay. It is so tightly written, every reference gets called back to. Nothing in the script is superfluous.

You mean 50's schools were so lenient. (21:18) 😉 And it wasn't Marty's intention to go back in time. He was just trying to get away from the guys who deleted Doc. He didn't realize the time travel circuits were on.

It's absolutely imperative that you watch the entire trilogy! In fact, now that you've seen the first one, one of the most fundamental laws of the Universe is that once you've seen the first movie it's imperative that you watch the final two! Imperative, I tell you! Otherwise you'll be sucked into a black hole and you'll cease to exist! Great Scott! Do not let that happen!!!!!

The “Sports” poster was an album by Huey Lewis and the News, the band that was playing during that part and does the main songs for the movie. Huey Lewis himself had a cameo as the teacher who told Marty that his band was too loud.

Far more time has passed since this movie debuted until today 1985 to 2023 or 38 years than the 30 years Marty went back in time. The movie has become a time capsule for the 80's. It hit like a thunderbolt when it premiered it was a sensation and the Delorean car became immortal.

Before you watch #2 you need to know that Jennifer was recast because Claudia Wells was unavailable because she was taking care of her dying mother. And when you get to the end and it says "To be concluded" You need to stop it because it is followed by a trailer for #3 which would be a spoiler and better to just watch it with no spoilers

See, I like the fact that Marty actually *is* paying attention to Doc. He may be bad at schooling, but when he’s *interested* in a subject, such as helping Doc and the Time Travel or Jennifer (who he *instantly* refers to as beautiful without a second thought) or the fact that he remembers when and where his parents kissed for the first time, he retains all of it.

In terms of the origin story. I read that when Marty was around 14 everyone was talking about a " mad scientist " who made these crazy inventions but parents told their kids to stay away from him but Marty actually snuck into his lab and doc caught him and was surprised that Marty was actually interested in his work so from then on he was just always around and their friendship blossomed from there

On Marty checking out other girls while talking to his girlfriend: I guess I'm very lucky to have a wife who will generally let me know if a nice looking woman just walked past us or is nearby (not because we're "swingers", of course, but just because she likes to see me smile and knows she has absolutely nothing to fear). I agree though, that if you haven't discussed that kind of stuff it could be seen as inconsiderate.
