So digging deeper into Sam's life you can understand where he gets his lyrics. He's lived them. From being bullied in school and having people befriend him so they could publicly humiliate him later was tramatic for him growing up. Death threats and being pushed down stairs. He has trust issues and when he goes into his manic mode, he believes that he isn't truly loved by his friends. In his song "The Madness" you can FEEL his panic attack and anxiety. Love his rawness. It brings the listener into his world.
These guys are gonna definitely be huge. I appreciate that Sam cared more about artistic integrity and longevity than fleeting reality talent competition fame. It's very easy to be tempted by empty promises, but the regret of, "Selling one's soul," always ultimately costs more in the long run. Musically, this one is so interesting. Vocals are mostly understated, but those sweeping Huey Lewis and The News type horns steal the show. The guy can really move too..and you can see that Broadway performance background front and center.
